@_nikkiwolf_ - that looks like such a cool run! I can't imagine running on snow. I don't like to run on the beach much unless it is the really packed down sand. The Daytona Beach Half Marathon has some sand to run on but not long and it is very packed down.

Rest day for me! A little sore in the ankles from yesterday's long run but not pain.

1/1 - rest day (recovering from stomach virus)
    1/2 - 40 mile bike ride
    1/3 - 4 miles
    1/4 - 4.1 miles
    1/5 - rest day
    1/6 - 5 miles
    1/7 - 4 miles
    1/8 - 5 miles
    1/9 - 4 miles
    1/10 - 4.1
    1/11 - rest day
    1/12 - 4.1
    1/13 - 4.0
    1/14 - 34 miles biking
    1/15 - 56 miles biking - hills! felt like 100 miles
    1/16 - 4 miles + strength training
    1/17 - 4 miles + neuromuscular activation (lol)
    1/18 - Strength training
    1/19 - 3.77 miles
    1/20 - strength training
    1/21 - 34 miles biking

Got a run in this morning because I don't know how the rest of the week is going to go. We're supposed to get snow tonight, maybe ice, and my work week is going to be killer. This morning I brought Stella with me and she dragged a bit. And then we saw another dog running ahead of us and it was on! She was like a sled dog in the Iditarod at that point. Ah well, at least we got it done.

@garygse You have some awesome runs the last few days!

I'm going to try to keep my mileage the same as my plan calls for, but I'm really working on slowing down my runs. good news is that I feel better today, so, hopefully, with a rest day tomorrow, I'll be feeling even better for my 7 miler on Wednesday. That one calls for a fast finish with the last 2 miles at SS pace, but I might just run the whole thing at E to be on the safe side.

Even with a slower run today, I managed around 180spm for cadence, so I'm hoping that the slower pace combined with, hopefully, higher cadence, will help me heal up more while keeping in shape.

@_nikkiwolf_ Love the sound of that run despite the frustrations, and well done for getting through it. Bet it was a great workout - Hope the legs are ok!

This thread has been busy this morning! It's a rest day for me. My plan calls for an easy run, but I am going to just do yoga. This plan would have me running 7 days per week with my only rest days every third Monday on cutback weeks. That is what I had done in the past, and it was fine, but seeing that my main goal is to avoid injury, I think that having a rest day every week will serve me better than just doing an easy run for the sake of it.

Looks like everyone had a pretty good weekend.

@_nikkiwolf_ - That snow race looks tough and amazing all at the same time. I am not sure how I would handle running alone in the woods at night. You are brave!

@BEERRUNNER - Nice job on your second 20 miler! Only 1 more to go...yay!

@katharmonic - I know I said this before, but I just love your little Stella. Hearing your stories always makes me laugh. They don't look alike, but it sounds like our Stellas are cut from the same cloth. That is exactly what my Stella does when we see another doggie on our runs!

Dammit. I am sick. I've been trying to ignore it all week but I woke with a thick head and snotty nose.

Made it through half a day of work then gave up.

My running schedule would have me out for a half hour run today, but wisdom has kicked in because:

    A) I'm sick
    B) I ran a tough run yesterday - all my muscles are sore from the rough surfaces, where it wasn't iced up churned soil (bendy ankle time) it was slidy mud so excellent strengthening for my core, legs and especially ankles.
    C) I have a 10k off-road next weekend and should try not to injure myself beforehand.

In other news, I realised I've actually surpassed my goal, as there was a TM session I'd not counted. So 43/40 miles so far this month. Gonna aim for 50!!

It's super busy at work this week so I'll have to catch up later.

    14.2 miles on Saturday
8.1 miles on Sunday, with Kody.
The warm weather for January continues and both runs were in mid 30's.

Saturday I had to go into Minneapolis to pick up the race packet for my HM this weekend. After picking up my shirt I ran the Minneapolis trails before heading home. I was looking forward checking out the shirt because it's a Brooks shirt, but it wasn't any better quality than any of my other race shirts. It's like they slapped a Brooks name on a generic wicking shirt. Oh well, it's not like I need another one.

I decided my taper for the HM will consist simply of skipping my Thursday run, giving me two days off going into it. I should still be able to get my goal miles.

@9voice9 so sorry to hear about your nephew.

@snowyne @MNLittleFinn If you're on the website, go to the notifications icon (the bell) and then select "All Notifications" at the bottom. You should get a list of how many times your post has been liked etc (and you can click through to see which posts). Below that click the "Replies" link it will list out all your posts - most recent at the top. Here is direct link to that page: community.myfitnesspal.com/en/profile/comments/

NB: Can't do the same from the (android) app as far as I can tell, but if you know someone has liked your post you can click through the "Likes"/"Awesome" link etc. to find it.

EDIT: Note to self: Stop procrastinating and go out for a run!!

My little girl got sick so the long Sunday run went out the window! still, I managed 6.24 miles so my balance is 17.78 today. Hoping to get some more lunch time runs in and a few after work as the evenings are getting a bit lighter here in the UK.

    Happy Monday gang!!!

Had to re-evaluate my goal this month. I started at 125 kms, reduced that to 100 last week, and reduced again to 80 today as I want to be realistic. Since I've started from scratch on the running front earlier this month after recovering from my surgery in November, I need to keep in mind that I can't just jump into the same momentum I had before. I'll up my goal next month and by Spring, I'll be back to normal. maybe even before that. I really can't wait until the nicer weather hits so I can run outside again. The C25K app is certainly helping, and I realize that my body hasn't forgotten everything I did to it previously.

Thanks everyone about my Half on Saturday. It was fun but tougher than what I expected. I didn't realize there was over 400 feet of elevation on this half. That was almost as much elevation as there was in my full marathon in December. I knew it was not a PR course and it wasn't an official race, but I still ran it with great effort (almost race intensity). I felt it a little bit this morning as I was a bit sore. But I was able to keep a pretty good pace this morning. I may go for a short run this afternoon or during lunch since I do need to build up my miles.

In other news, I decided pick up the RW Big Book of Marathon and Half-Marathon Training that @Stoshew71 referenced in his blog post he linked to at some point. Even if some or a portion of what is mentioned in the book are things I know or have read before, I'm hoping to gain a new perspective on a few things. I'm specifically interested to read their section on injury prevention. Never can hurt to go back to the basics.

Let me know what you think. It is very basic but thorough. Hopefully you get some use out of it. Again, this was my first book that I got and it helped me develop a good foundation of knowledge at the time.

Woke up in the middle of the night sleeping in a funny position with pain in my left knee - almost as if someone was leaning on it to bend it the wrong way, and an ache in my right calf. It wasn't that bad and was the sort of thing any non-runner would have completely dismissed and was totally gone/forgotten in the morning.

Still suffering with cold so decided on just 8k today. Unlike recent runs where I've either warmed to the task or started fine then hit a wall, today was hard from first step to last. In addition, around 5k started to get mild pain in my left knee and my right shin (rather than calf). I totally suspect these were phantom reminders of night time but noticed in my post-run stretch that my right shin was tighter than usual.

Anyway, despite my average pace being about the same as the last few days it was *a lot* harder and only hit that average by putting in a fast last mile. I say fast but was only HM pace as that was all I had in me - I mostly did that because I was desperate to get home and be done with the run. Have finally admitted to myself I'm not going to outrun my cold so going to listen to my body and take a rest tomorrow, (from cardio at least - may go to the gym for strength work if I feel up to it), and eat at maintenance level next couple of days.

    3-Jan: 11.49k [6.7k MP + 4.8k easy - suffering with cold]
    4-Jan: 5.3k treadmill intervals [TM]
    5-Jan: 12.9k MP (slight hills)
    6-Jan: 5.2k treadmill tempo + 2.2k treadmill intervals [TM]
7-Jan: 5.8k + 6.1k 'tired' runs (slightly slower than MP)
    11-Jan: 24.2k long run
    16-Jan: 5.6k MP
    17-Jan: 10.6k Fast
    18-Jan: 13.1k Easy

1/1 - Still wasn't feeling up to it.
1/2 - Bodypump, the 2.25 miles on the 'mill
1/3 - 4.5 miles on the treadmill (Trek class). That'll clean your lungs out.
1/4 - Stayed in bed. Lingering cold + a bratty greyhound = not enough sleep.
    1/5 - Bodypump, then 2.25 treadmill miles.
1/6 - 4.2 'mill miles. -3° F is way below my comfort level to run outside
    1/7 - Bodypump, then 2.25 treadmill miles.
    1/8-1/13 - Sick, sick, sick.
1/14 - 3.4 'mill miles, then a quick upper body weight session.
    1/15 - Church / family day.
1/16 - Too icy to run, too icy to drive. Barely left house.
1/17 - 4.8 miles on the treadmill (Trek class). Fingers crossed my illness is done.
1/18 - Hangin' at the hospital with my Mom while Dad had surgery.
    1/19 - 4.01 miles outside! Woo hoo!
    1/20 - 4.1 miles. 37° F at 5 a.m. on January 20? Yes, please!!
1/21 - 3.4 miles on the treadmill, then upper body weights
    1/22 - Church / family / basketball day
    1/23 - 4.03 miles.

Still trying to get the hang of these boards...how do I find my earlier posts without scrolling back?

I've been just scrolling back since I started. I normally know withing a page or 2 of where it should be, then I just control F each page looking for my SN

Thank you. Good to know I'm not the only one!

@snowyne @MNLittleFinn and @dkabambe - Another way to find your posts - from the web (not sure on the APP) when you are in a topic like this Challenge, there is a little magnifying glass search icon next to the page number list. If you have a specific word in your post then you can use it to search on. For example, I typically include in my workout summary a note on the days I have agility or rally class and I can find my previous posts easily by searching for one of those words....

Hello gang! I've been a bit busy and missed quite a bit. On top of that, I didn't even get to run over the weekend. I did get a 7 plus mile walk on Saturday though. This morning's run felt good after 2 days off. My tights appear to be getting a bit loose which is both good and bad...good because I am still getting smaller, but bad cause it means I have to keep pulling them up now!

Have a fabulous rest of the day!

I've never tracked mileage or done a challenge before - it's fun to watch the miles rack up! :D
