    I drink

    I cry

    I count my many blessings. There's always someone worse off so I suck it up and deal.

    I am not familiar/smart enough to reply to each one of you who took time to share your part, BUT THANKS TO EACH ONE of you. It really helped me reading experiences of each one of you. Thanks again and Stay strong !

    Happy new year.
  • I take some advice I was given:

    1. There is a season for everything. Winter doesn't last forever. This too shall pass.

    2. Focus on today.

    3. Don't make permanent decisions based on temporary problems (works well with advice #1).

    Also, some stuff I found that helps:

    1. Prayer

    2. Long form of the Serenity prayer (the second paragraph is key)

    3. A book called How to Be Happy No Matter What: Five Principles Your Therapist Never Told You by Richard Carlson, PhD

    Do you mean this poem? My grandfather had a framed version of this... ❤ Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
    As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
    Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others,
    even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
    Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
    If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter,
    for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
    Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
    Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
    it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
    Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery.
    But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
    many persons strive for high ideals,
    and everywhere life is full of heroism.
    Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love;
    for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
    Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
    Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
    But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
    Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
    Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
    You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars;
    you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you,
    no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
    Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be.
    And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life,
    keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams,
    it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

    It's this:

    Many people know the first part, but adding the second part really helped me a lot.

    God grant me the serenity
    To accept the things I cannot change;
    Courage to change the things I can;
    And wisdom to know the difference.

    Living one day at a time;
    Enjoying one moment at a time;
    Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
    Taking, as He did, this sinful world
    As it is, not as I would have it;
    Trusting that He will make all things right
    If I surrender to His Will;
    So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
    And supremely happy with Him
    Forever and ever in the next.

    Amen.

    I had some early bereavements and it took years to get away from a (mild) victim mentality. I am very gradually coming to understand that whilst the good and bad times can (and should) shape us to a degree (like spanks) it is actually good practice , at least for me, to THINK about my blessings. Active thinking, not sarcastic but real and genuine consideration of the good and beautiful.
    Also, as has been said, this too shall pass....I wish for you good things. Life can be poo sometimes, may there be goodness too.

    One thing that's necessary for me is to accept is that some wounds take a long time to heal for various reasons. I try not to be too hard on myself for falling into depression. I've found while I can excel in many areas while licking my wounds, the hurt manifests in different ways. Also, in some situations, you have to cut out the rot that's causing the infection, which is extremely difficult and should not be done without a great deal of thought. More time. Just keep working at it. You'll be okay.

    My true thoughts on the matter (and what keeps me going) is I believe in a karmic balance to life

    I don't mean be good and only good will happen to you

    I mean I believe life is meant to be neutral

    So when bad *kitten* starts coming my way, one after another after another, I just keep saying to myself that once I hit rock bottom I will start to climb

    It's seemed pretty true in life so far

    The only problem is when things are going good I get sus because I know bad is going to follow.. I find usually three bad major things happen, then 3 good things to neutral it

    Could be an absolute load of crap - but keeps me going
