Looking to hit 300km this month. Last week I had a bike accident so did a few slow (painful) rides on the trainer. Thankfully I seem to be healing up so ready to conquer the remaining days left in January. I will be doing a combo of outside commutes (its too cold for anything longer rides) and trainer rides.

Any1 ever tweeked a calf muscle?
I never have and I did it while......................stretching..........................of all things on Sunday. Top part of my left calf (kinda where it connects to the lower part of the knee) and where it "curves" back to the leg muscle. So, top part and bottom part of my left calf muscle. Was soar as all get-down Sunday and yesterday. Not real noticeable today, so I didn't ride yesterday (Monday) or today. Hope to get back on the trainer tmrw. Fingers crossed.0 -

If you were stretching before working out, stop doing that. It is not helpful or beneficial stretching out cold muscles and can lead to injury. Instead warm-up with lower intensity levels. Static stretching after workouts can be beneficial.
If it is feeling good, some foam rolling might help, and take it easy on the trainer. Lower resistance levels and intensity.1 -

OK. I've never heard of not stretching before riding. Will give it a whirl, warming up _slowly_ and then stretching after I train/ride.

They used to think stretching helped, but stretching a cold muscle is generally a bad idea, and stretching before exercise even if the muscles are warmed up, loosens up things in a way that can increase risk of injury. Dynamic stretching can be good, but for cycling, taking it slow to allow muscle to warm up, or doing some foam rolling if you have tight spots is probably safer than static stretches.1 -
I stretch during my rides.
Mid-ride, I'll go through a little stretching routine. On long rides, I'll do it every couple hours. Then I do a bit of stretching every time I stop along the way.
But I don't stretch before I workout ... never have.1 -
