I like to write, so here's an excerpt from a book that I'm writing that hopefully I'll release before I die. It's a very rough draft but I'll share it anyway. The book is called The Things I Dream
Slowly I lied down atop the bed, for the first ten minutes I stared at the ceiling and tried to envision what my subconscious was going to throw at me next. Soon I had gotten relaxed and my eyes were beginning to blink more. The vision of the white ceiling had now turned into the darkness of the inside of my eyelid, my sleep cycle had begun.
I opened my eyes to find myself in a dimly lit cube shaped room with a grey concrete floor and walls to match. Once again I was trapped in the dream world, and the all too familiar knotted nervous feeling in my stomach had resurfaced.
In front of me sat a sturdy steel chair and table which had a 4×4 Rubik’s cube sitting on the middle of it. Cautiously I took a seat as the cold chill of the chair pressed against me. I picked up the Rubik’s cube and began to examine it, nothing about it seemed out of the ordinary aside from the fact that it hadn’t been solved. A second before I was about to rotate one of the edges a small rectangular part of the concrete wall in front of me flipped over and revealed a display panel. The panel showed a frozen time of exactly one minute and thirty seconds. Though I had never solved a Rubik’s cube in my life I wasn’t exactly afraid of them. If anything this dream seemed to be testing a mental flaw of mine rather than exploiting my fears. I exhaled and then immediately started to rotate the faces of the cube.
The clock immediately started to count down as soon as I began my rotations.
Quickly I began to get frustrated with the cube, I had been shown many strategies on how to quickly solve them but the steps were escaping my memory. I was mindlessly turning the faces with no real purpose or idea of what I was doing. After ten seconds had gone by I heard the sound of the concrete walls on each side of me moving and suddenly it became clear to me what fear I was going to have to conquer.
Slowly the walls began to cave in and my claustrophobia was beginning to take effect. In a matter of seconds the amount of sweat on my face had tripled and I was panicking like never before. My palms had become so sweaty that I lost grip of the cube, I shouted out obscenities as it dropped to the table. In an uncomfortable panic I looked back at the clock and there were only 50 seconds remaining. I fumbled around a few moments more with the cube as the walls slowly began to close in more. Having made no progress with the cube I slammed it onto the table, death began to feel more imminent with each second that ticked off of the clock.
Though helplessness had overcome me I still had 45 seconds to attempt to save my life and I intended to use every bit of it. I remained in a panicked state as I placed the cube back in my hand, only now I was a tad more focused and controlling of my frustrations. Slowly I began to remember the method that my dad had taught me when I was younger, to first create a white cross pattern and then everything else would become easier. My rotations were becoming more calculated and I had managed to get one side of the cube all to one color.
This minor victory was short lived as I took another glance at the walls which were now an arm reach away. With 15 seconds left on the clock I was slowly returning to my full blown frantic state. In the back of my head I could hear myself screaming in agony as if the walls had already closed. A death of this design would be too painful to bare, so I fixated my entire being onto the cube. I narrowed my vision down to only cube as I began to twist and turn it in a dramatic fashion. The cube was nearly complete but my bottom right cube was still didn’t match with its counterparts.
Time must have been close to expiring, I could feel the concrete of the wall beginning to smash into both shoulders. I pushed my vocal cords to their limits as I simultaneously screamed and made one last rotation to adjust the cube.
The inevitable crush of the walls was too large a pain to bear and I could no longer endure the agony, I dropped the cube onto the table and watched it roll off to the other side4 -

That is very well written for a rough draft and has already captured my interest. What genre are you intending this to be? IT feels like a thriller or mystery. Perhaps sci-fi? I like it a lot! Keep writing and let everyone know when its published! And thank you so much for sharing your talent.

What a beautiful voice! I dont care for most music. I come from the MTV gen but to me it was all noise. I had a few favorite songs (not artist as most artist seem to have one or two hits and a lot of junk) but you wont ever catch me purposely popping in a cd. Your voice makes my top 10 list. At least with this song you chose.. You sound like an angel!0 -

Awesome pencil art! Do you shade with a grey stump? I like to roll up news paper and make my own when I am broke.
Sorry for the late reply I just did finger shading because I was to lazy to get up
Lol.. yeah.. been there. You can also pull off a piece of your art pads paper and roll it into a stump if you dont want to get up. I do that as well.
Lazy shading with "improvised" stump used from art pad. I never did finish this. I got bored and quit. A lot of my pencil drawings are only half done.

Thanks a lot for checking it out, I really appreciate it. I guess if I had to categorize the story it would probably fall under thriller/super natural sci fi. Unfortunately it will probably be awhile before this is published because I'm working on a few other books at the same time (I'm a scatter brain lol) but i honestly believe when I do finally finish this it's easily going to be the best thing I've ever written.0 -

Those are really good! I was told its never too late to go back when its a painting..but then Ive never tried. I like it. I like the shadow too. Artists are usually the worst critics when it comes to their own work. Always reaching for perfection and never satisfied. Im not sure what the above painting is. It looks like a cross between a human heart and a flower. Its kind of eerie and goth. I really like that one!0
