water weight. Whoosh. Why are you always posting stuff like this havent you been answered before. You said you overcalced everything to be safe.13

Weight of water.2

You may have been over your goal calories but you were clearly well under your TDEE.9
-
1) Weight loss isn't linear. If you hadn't seen a loss for a while (due to water retention, TOM, etc), you might have reached the point where you got the "whoosh."
2) Your net average over your goal was still a deficit.
3) This data doesn't show anything about your exercise habits for the week.
4) No way to know how accurate your logging actually was - I'd guess you didn't really eat 4300 calories in one day.13 -
The results you get tomorrow aren't a direct reflection of what you did today. In addition, CICO relates to fat loss, which is not always apparent by looking only at weight loss. Also, I don't know your posting history (sounds like you ask this stuff a lot?) but this could also be an issue:

Because weight loss and gain isn't linear, your body doesn't have a static weight, and the number you see on the scale can be affected by a variety of things, including but not limited to a calorie deficit. CICO is a mathematical equation designed to explain fat loss and gain over time. It doesn't describe simple body weight changes.5

At 17000ish you probably should have lost some fat and probably did (I also note that another poster points out that you apparently overestimate). 4.5 isn't fat, it's water fluctuations, and also weight loss isn't linear.2

The numbers on this chart don't make sense. If you were over your goal by 150 per day that would be about 1000 extra for the week, not 3405 extra as stated. If your goal is 1595, that's not where the line is on the chart, it's at about 1200.
To respond to your question, weight loss is not linear. You don't immediately gain or lose weight the day after you ate more or less, often not even the same week. There often seems to be a delay. You had a weird fluctuation for some unknown reason. You can't validate or invalidate CICO based on one week, which includes New Year's Eve. You have to look at the long haul. Next week, there's a good chance the scale will be up. Save this thread to remind yourself of the reasons why this happens, when it does!
CICO works because it is math, not a "diet plan." Math does not fail you.7 -
You could publish your assertions in book form and send a copy to Oprah and see what happens.7
-
So why are you seeming to want to disprove CICO?6

Where are you in your menstrual cycle? A big whoosh post-period is not uncommon.
You can learn about whooshes here: http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/of-whooshes-and-squishy-fat.html/0 -

1) You only have one day that you went way over...overall, you were still in a calorie deficit for the week.
2) Your target of 1,595 is a weight loss target...it isn't maintenance...it is a substantial deficit from maintenance...going over by 148 calories on average per day is nothing...still in a deficit.
3) Screen shot just shows total calories...it doesn't give any indication of activity, either general or exercise.
4) You're assuming a direct 1:1 linear relationship in regards to what you do today having a direct relationship with tomorrow. That's not how your body works. Weight management is the cumulative effect of what is happening over days, weeks, months, and years. What happens today or this week doesn't necessarily effect what happens tomorrow or next week. This is actually one of the problems I have with MFP's methodology...it tends to make people get wrapped up in the minutia of tit for tat...when in reality, that's just not the way it works.
5) High calorie days from time to time can reset hormones and reduce cortisol levels often resulting in a whoosh.
6) Personally, I can fluctuate that much pretty easily day to day...I was up almost 3 Lbs today from yesterday which is largely attributable to a heavy lifting session last night and retaining a bunch of fluid because of it. Actual weight loss and weight management in general is about trends and averages over time...see #4.8 -

Too funny. That chart of your week seems to be giving us the finger!7 -
Small sample size theatre we're watching. Similar to a cold front coming through town and thinking it's proof that global warming isn't happening. A cold front doesn't prove anything one way or another, neither does one week.2

Um. Probably because your maintenance is more than 1700 calories. Maybe because you've been in a deficit previously and because weight loss is not liner, you lost the weight this week. Maybe because of water weight.0
