Do you try to eat at least 1200 calories daily?

I'm a 30 yr old female and I've just started to keep track of the calories I consume and I had no idea how few calories I was consuming during the week. I thought I was eating healthy at work but really I was only getting around 800 cal/day and the majority of that was at dinner. Obviously, I realize that is not healthy and now I plan my meals and snacks so that I can reach the 1200 cal/day and not have the majority of them at the end of the day. After only a couple weeks, I noticed a huge change in my energy level, my workouts, and my weight dropped some too. Now, it is a struggle some days not to go too much over, but it's totally worth it to listen to your body. I should have realized a long time ago that my body wasn't happy with me!0

You're a guy, 1800 calores is minimum for a males. 1200 calories is minimum for females. You sir are starving yourself.0

I want to know if everyone who calorie counts, do they try to eat a 1200 minimum. I know that they are many days, like today that i just can't eat 1200 calories, even after a long day at the gym. I'm a male, 250 lbs 19 and i've only had 600 calories for the day. I'm a little hungry but not too much. (Only had subway for the day) Do you try to eat the minimum? they say if you dont eat at least 1200 your body will go into starvation mode.
I'm debating on cooking a meal that can = up to 1200 or just eating a snack and being under for the day.
Let me know your suggestions.
Also i try to eat 1 full meal a day, 1 small meal (usually lunch) and 1 snack for the day... the snack i had today was a sugar free jello pack that has only 10 calories. then i had a 6 inch sub from subway (400 calories, 18 grams of fat) and a small bag of baked lays chips. and of course plenty of water, ive also burned about 900 in the gym today.
My suggestion would be that you need to eat more. Netting 600 calories a day is NOT healthy. Period. Especially for a 19 year old 250lb male.
PLEASE EAT MORE.
**This. I eat around 1600 calories on workout days to lose weight and I'm a 44 year old woman. Please try and eat more. I know we have days when we aren't hungry and one day won't hurt but please don't consistently eat under 1200 calories. You actually don't need to eat under 1500 calories.0 -
I'm 5'10" 175 and I wouldn't dream of eating less than 2200 calories a day.0
-
Dude, just going to say right now, if you keep netting 600 calories you are going to eventually burn yourself out. I eat 2,400 a day. I did the whole "net 600 calories thing" and it's just not worth it. Eat more, lift weights, be happy.0

Do I try? No, I don't need to try. I find it very hard to eat less than 1400-1500 a day. If I had only eaten 600 calories by nighttime I'd be ready to chew on my shoes.
Personally, I would go with toenails before shoes...0 -
It's just so sad that people are hurting they're bodies!!
PLEASE EAT!!!!!!0 -
You ate 600 calories and burned 900 calories so you have a negative net 300 calories for the day. Thats not much.
If you watch primates they eat, sit around and then do some short activity and then sit and eat and do some short activity. Our bodies are probably evolved to do the same thing.
The idea of working all day at agriculture or building stuff or whatever is only about 10-15 thousand years old, not long enough for our bodies to have evolved or adapted to handle that kind of life. So we are probably supposed to sit around and eat and then jump up and do some activity and then repeat all day to make our bodies work properly.
Our digestive systems have adapted to eating several times a day so the chemical factory that is our body doesn't work well unless we feed it several times a day. Granted most people feed it too much stuff and the wrong stuff at that. We should be acting like Chimpanzees, eating fruits, berries, tree bark and the occasional raw monkey.
However, if raw monkey doesn't appeal a Sub way Sandwich is fine. Cut it up into thirds or fourths and do what primates do, sit around, eat a little and then jump up and be active. That way the chemical factory that is your body doesn't break down.0 -
Try?
Dude, I'm 43, female and if I don't eat at least 1800 calories a day, I am impossible to be around.
Please eat!0 -
I'm at just under 1200 today and that's ONLY because I was having GI distress from a med my doctor put me on Wednesday. Normally I'm at 1200+ easily. Eat more!0

<-- 2200/day0

Theybetter be some Loubs lol
Hmm... that's an interesting thought. :laugh:0 -
nope. I calorie cycle so one day I might net 800 and the next day1400.0

I think you know that 600 cals a day is not enough. Yes - do try to eat at LEAST 1200 a day, but for a young man at age 19 you should be eating way more than that. Peanut butter, nuts, full fat pudding, full fat milk - all healthy for you and will give you the calories you need along with needed protein.0 -
If I eat under 1800 a day I get NASTY. I am a 5'7 168lb woman.
You should probably eat more.0 -
ummm yea0

Sometimes I have trouble getting my calorie goal too. Try eating denser (calorific) food. Sugar free jello not being one. I eat very little as well, my stomach doesn't take kindly to eating large portions of food. So what I do is eat things like peanut butter, meats, and dairy. Things that don't take up much room in the stomach, but have an energy punch.
Not sure if my problem is actually your problem as well, but thought I'd throw the suggestion out there.0 -
This isnt making any sense.. You let yourself get to over 300 pounds at one time... Yu didnt do that on 600 calories a day worth of sugar feee jello! Dude, You CAN eat.
I'm a 44 year old, 5'6" female and I gross 2200 caloires a day! Greek yogurt with fat, nuts and nut butter.. One tablespoon of nut butter has about 100 caloreis and certainly wont fill you up. Eat it was celery, carrots, apple or a banana instead of crappy jello! Grab a hanful of nuts and/or seeds or a trail mix.
I suggest NO LESS than 2000 calories a day for a guy of your age, activity level and height. Go calculate your BMR, NEVER eat below that amount!!!!
Even better, calculate your TDEE and then cut that amout by 10% for your daily calorice intake. Get about 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight (this is about 25% of our daily calories), eat about 30% of your caloies from fat and the carbs take care of themselves...EAT0 -
Wow, even my 4 year old, who doesn't eat a lot, manages 600 calories a day or more!
I'm female, 5'6, age 35 and I aim for 1500-1600 calories a day. I exercise 5 or 6 times a week so I guess I net 1200 most days.
I'd be starving on 600 calories! No way could I chase after my kids or do my teaching job.
Eat more! Make it good food though - protein, fruit etc.0 -
you're a nineteen year old dude. go eat 2,200 calories, lift weights, and run. and watch the magic.
I concur0 -
Way too low dude, I'd say eat atleast 1800, I find it difficult eating only 2000-2400 depending on my exercise.0
-
So, I agree 600 is too low to consume. However, question; some days I eat my BMR of 1382, and don't eat exercise cals back. So some days I NET around 600-700. Should I be NETTING my BMR? I'm not actually losing anything. So just trying to figure out all the numbers/rates etc0
-
I try my best to eat at least 1300 actually why so low that can be sad would make me cry anyways0
-
I am a female and I try not to eat below 2000 calories. 1200 wouldn't give my body the fuel it needs, but you are only netting 600 (which is not healthy. 1200 calories is one meal during the day for me. My goals are to maintain muscle mass and soon I will be staring a new lifting program and will eat even more to create a small surplus. It does not make sense or seem healthy for a a grown man to eat so little. Unless your goal is to drop weight and you don't care that at such a low intake you will most likely be losing MUSCLE (not just fat).0

ya 1590 net0

At least 1200. It's hard to get all your macros that you need for less than 1200 anyways, and after working out, I'm always hungry enough to be able to eat 1200+0

I don't think that, once in a while, it will hurt you to net the 600-700. But in general, I would say figure your TDEE * 80% and don't eat much below that. It's considered aggressive weight loss, and TDEE *75% is considered risky (If I'm remembering numbers). And if you're not losing anything with a net of 700 a day, and you want to be losing, I would suggest trying to net at least 1200 a day. You'll probably feel a lot better!0 -
