Wimped out on the group speedwork tonight once again. I almost wiped out a few times while just walking so I wasn't feeling up to running in the snow and slush. So I hit the treadmill once again. Maybe Thursday night will bring a better outlook for outdoor group.0 -
Catching up from Friday until now...
@Elise4270 great photo! I'm late to the discussion but considering what you've been through, I wouldn't think a half in 11 weeks would be a good idea.
@MNLittleFinn Duluth is a great place to run! Glad you got to see other runners. It always gives me a little lift to cross paths with other runners. It's like we're all in it together.
@aenglert_04 Welcome! As you've found, there are a few of us Minnesotans here. Like some of the others I love running outside year round, but whatever you prefer is perfect, of course.
@OSUbuckeye906 glad to see you running again, even if limited!
@_nikkiwolf_ I have never seen lugs like that before!
@girlinahat sorry about the HM filling up! Sweet bling on the one you found though. I often like to wait until the last minute to sign up for races and I'm sure I'll get burned some time.
@kimlight2 If it were me, I'd switch the runs without hesitation. There's nothing magical about a 7 day cycle in running. Fit the runs to your schedule. You might also consider contacting a local running club for advice.
@BeeerRunner from what I remember of Dubai & Abu Dhabi when I was there in 2001, I wouldn't run outside no matter the temp. I felt very safe there with regard to people, but the sidewalks and roads were horrendous. Even walking was an adventure. From missing sidewalk panels, pipes stubbed up in odd places, and live, exposed wiring, it was crazy. That was before all building construction went crazy, so perhaps it's improved. Now that I think about it, all those trip hazards and obstacles would be good technical training for trail running.
@shanaber, nice shoes! On my run yesterday it took about 3 miles to loosen up. I didn't think i was ever going to feel right.
@skippygirlsmom I hope your appointment tomorrow leads to some progress on that hip!
I'll get caught up on my running on the next post...gotta go!

Yesterday was a rest/recovery day after my 3 km Ice Prancing on Saturday.
A short Leg - Knee - Hip Test - Recovery run on the Riverbank Trails.
8 C so most of the Ice has Melted away with just a few patch's in the tree covered areas.
5.25 km's ( that's going to bug me ), I was feeling so good that at 2nd km I put the hammer down and changed from easy to Tempo. 1T/ 1E/ 1T. Managed a PB of 5:22/km during the 2nd T. Not super fast but for me that is a major breakthrough as I have been locked/struggling most of the year at 5:50>6:00/km.
I am a little behind my planned schedule but didn't adjust correctly for the Taper/Recovery for the HM.

@BeeerRunner Welcome to the Snow Runners Club, its not as bad as most people think. You are now entitled to wear one of the Running Winter Warrior torques with a Snowflake emblem.
@KatieJane83 Nice Yearly Goal and ticker to match
@kimlight2 I don't think you have to worry about Hogging the Mill
@skippygirlsmom Hope the Doctor/PT solves your troubles1 -
3.5 miles with 8 little hills late this afternoon. Nice weather but running is so hard right now 20 extra pounds makes a big difference. Also my overall strength has declined over the past couple months. I was dying packing a case of water into my office today But I press on! Not giving up!4
-
@skippygirlsmom I somehow missed your earlier comment about your hip. Keeping my fingers crossed that whatever the problem isn't too serious and you can recover soon!
@_nikkiwolf_ Bummer that the new shoes didn't work out!
@lporter229 Sorry to hear your hamstring is still giving you problems! Hope the PT can work some quick magic for you.
@Orphia WTG on the HM PR!
@shanaber Love the shoes! Sorry you're still having the HR issues, but hope you can enjoy your trip nonetheless

TOTAL: 10/22 workout days
The ankle felt almost back to normal yesterday morning and with the day of rest, it felt good last night and perfectly fine this morning. Decided to give some cardio a shot this morning and started with a lighter workout on the bike. Still felt good, so went on to the planned walk/jog...on the treadmill this time to avoid any fights with the edge of the sidewalk. Probably won't run/jog again until Thursday as tomorrow is an elliptical/PT exercise day and Wednesday is another PT appointment.

Very long day today, so ended up on the treadmill for 2.1 miles at the hotel. I'm hoping to get a chance to run outside during daylight to explore the area... possibly tomorrow I will get away from work duties early enough.

My schedule is one day off, which will be resolved tomorrow, so today was the last day of my 2nd 28 mile week. Tomorrow starts my first ever 30 mile week. Tonight's run was made a little extra challenging by being in the dark, so I was hyper alert with my headlamp, trying to avoid black ice and snowy patches. It was 28F but with some gusty winds, and a wind chill around 20. Gonna sleep good tonight! Lol.
And for the life of me I can't figure out how to update my ticker now that I'm on a different computer than I made it on this afternoon. I have the link for it saved, but when I click on it, it just shows me the ticker on a black field. And when I go to the site, I only see the option to create a new ticker. Ugh.1 -

hello--this might be off topic of the thread but i kinda feel obligated to respond--I know the feeling. I hated my last job so much that sometimes in the morning I would get ready drink coffee play my phone for 20 minutes before i could drag myself out of the door, and usually got to office around 10am. I started job searching around May last year because I was feeling so depressed just thinking about work. Updated my resume several times, applied at least 25 positions, got about 6 or 7 first-round interviews throughout summer, got in final round for 3 positions, and finally received 2 offers in November and started my new job in December. Changing job is not easy not to mention getting your dream job, it takes lots of work, lots of planning, lots of practice, patience, and reflections. But hey, you are a runner, you are already good at all it takes to change your career or life, all you need is to keep at it! You have this in you. Best of luck and hope to hear your good news soon.

@RespectTheKitty Just this morning, looking at your Strava, I was thinking yet again, "Look how far you've come!" Your progress really warms my heart.
Hang in there with the job hunt. When I've been looking for work, it's taken about 6 months each time to find something. Maybe that's just a puddle thinking it's the perfect size, or maybe there's science behind that statistic. Needless to say, I know how much job hunting sucks. No wonder you're depressed! It might be your depression clears up when you find a job.
Wish some boffins could find a solution to unemployment. Actually, I'm a big fan of the National Basic Income movement. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basic_income
Shows promise.1 -

Cool!
I've got rewards lined up for my progress through Run the World.
https://www.runsoftheworld.com/
They have Europe, USA, and Down Under.
You upload your runs (I'm linked to Strava) and it shows you how far you have run round your chosen continent.
You get rewards along the way, and a free t-shirt at the start, and bling at the end of the year.
You've got till the end of February to upload and backdate your runs from the start of 2017.1 -
Happy Valentine's day to everyone who celebrates it.

@shanaber @_nikkiwolf_ @BeeerRunner @girlinahat and anyone else who wondered: the mystery sea creature is a Lion's Paw Sea Cucumber. Who would-a thunk!
ah - I did wonder!!! now I have found pictures of it I can see how it works!!!
A scuba instructor once insisted on pointing out a sea cucumber actively poo-ing during a dive. We started to wonder whether you could recognise species based on the shape of the chain-link style poo. I've certainly never seen a sea cucumber like that one!!
strangest thing I've ever seen underwater is a 1metre sphere squid egg capsule. We didn't have a clue what it was and it has taken me years to find out, they're pretty rare and VERY weird.0 -

Due to lots and lots of rain, and me being a wuss and not liking to get wet, today's run consisted of running up and down a parking structure. Most. Boring. Run. Ever.
But hey, it could've been worse; it could've been on a treadmill.

Oh, and happy Valentines Day to all you awesome running peeps! My Valentine gift to myself is running 7 miles at lunch, and then lifting some weights after work, lol. Maybe I'll meet some awesome fit, single guy at the gym after work today. Probably going to be the majority of the people there tonight, lmao.
