Do you have any "banned" foods that you won't allow in your diet?

Even though I know I can have anything I want in moderation, I have some foods that I've just banned in my head all together. It's so weird because I seriously don't deprive myself of anything. However there are some foods that I've heard along the way that were some of the worst choices that could be made at a meal so I don't touch them. For instance - Pasta Alfredo. I mean who doesn't love this stuff? With dieting though, I feel like i have committed a sin eating it. Even when I am not dieting I avoid Pasta Alfredo sauce because somewhere I've heard it's one of the worst things in life you can eat. I also no longer eat bagels for breakfast because I heard they are just empty calories. The weird thing is that I eat all other kinds of crap foods just fine. Does anyone else do this or am I just crazy? Well I know I'm crazy but does anyone else do this????

I won't eat Little Debbie's because I cannot control myself! I'm fine with other junky foods, but I know to stay away... I mean I salivate when I see them at the store. It's really sad.5

No...I have a lot of foods that I eat way less of than I used to...
I don't know where you heard that pasta alfredo is one of the worst foods you could possibly eat...it's calorie dense, sure...but not inherently unhealthy...the bigger issue with it is the serving size you're likely to get at a restaurant...same for just about any pasta dish.
Bagels aren't empty calories...I was just looking at the package of bagels in our bread rack...245 calories...48 grams carbohydrates...4 grams fiber...10 grams protein 15% RDA Iron...12% RDA magnesium. Rather than going by things you hear, look at nutrition labels.17 -

^^^ Nailed it!
In my opinion, banning foods is a horrible idea. What happens once you hit your goal weight? Do you plan on continuing to live without those banned foods for the rest of your life? Learn to moderate your intake of the foods you love and you'll make the process of losing weight - and maintaining a healthy weight - much more enjoyable.7 -
Creamed corn. It's disgusting.
Same goes for the skin on top of pudding.7 -
I not only banned donuts from my diet, but from even coming into my house. They are like Lay's potato chips to me. I can't eat just one.4

I eat anything I want to eat most of the time. No banned foods. There are foods I try not to bring into the house often though; snack cakes, twinkies, chips, soda, sweets, cookies, etc. I still buy them, sometimes make them, and still eat them in moderation, but if I buy that crap in bulk I know I am going to eat it so I buy just what is needed. For instance we love making taco salads with Doritos. I used to go out and get 2 family size bags when we made tacos and we'd use what we want and snack on the rest. Now I get one bag, normal size, just enough for the meal then we're done with it. I've bought Twinkies, doughnuts, etc. when I have a lot of calories to spare and I'll eat some, give the rest to my kids or grand kids, and then be done with it. It's all about moderation not banning foods.8

I choose to abstain from processed sugar because if it is in my house, I will eat it. I am diabetic (type 2), and I am working hard on lowering my A1C. I just need to tame my sweet tooth with a lot of discipline. Sugar is my drug and it is soo hard to just put it out of my mind, sometimes...3

Negotiate all food. You want cake, eat cake. Reasonable amount and eat well the rest of the day. I don't ban any foods.7

My mom used to make it on pork chop day. I love pork chops so much (never make them because my husband and daughter don't like them) but I always knew I'd have to eat some of the creamed corn too. Ick.2 -
Not really...I was relieved to add bacon back into my diet, and now full fat cheese again. I've been on so many restrictive eating programs in the past, that just counting calories with MFP was quite liberating for me. Now, that's not to say that I don't try to moderate portion sizes when I'm trying to hit my macros, but for me, it allowed me to add stuff back into my eating program that had previously been 'forbidden' by other programs - fat, certain fruits, etc.
I'm happy to say that I'm now in maintenance, though I think I'm being more restrictive at times on myself in maintenance than when I was in the deficit process. So concerned that I'll gain it all back, that I'm probably harder on myself now than I had been when trying to lose.
For me, at this point, probably what keeps me from eating something is that it's just a pain to have to measure it or portion it out (for example queso...I don't want to have to portion it out, would rather reheat the full bowl and scoop...but then I have no idea how much I'm eating). I feel the same way about measuring out pastas. And I know it's more a mental issue, than actually being difficult to measure it. It's my own personal problem.2 -
The only food i have banned is pasta and thats only because it does horrible things to my body, bloating like you wouldnt believe and also itchy skin . I do love pasta but it dont love me so it is banned for life. All other food i eat within my callorie allowance and enjoy it.2

99% of all foods are, or have been at one point, "one of the worst things in life you can eat". You are not crazy, but the government, media, food industry and diet industry are trying to make us crazy
The only thing I've banned and won't allow anymore, is that unhealthy attitude towards food and eating. I don't eat food I don't like, and I avoid food I have trouble moderating, but eating is a necessary pleasure, not a sin, and I'm going to enjoy it.9 -

This! I LOVE little debbies too! They are like little mini plastic bags full of deliciousness and memories. I can't buy them! haha.0 -

Ages ago there was a consumer group that was releasing "reports" on the worst foods to eat, and they tested a fettuccine alfredo available at a restaurant that was like a million calories and ton of fat if you ate the whole plate. I believe they called it "a heart attack on a plate". I remember because it was what my dad always ordered when we went to an Italian restaurant so we forbade him to get it anymore. Of course, now that I know more I know you can make alfredo sauce without killing yourself
OP, you have to remember that the people writing the headlines need to exaggerate to get your attention.
Forbidding foods is a personal thing. Some people find that banning a "trigger" food is the only way they can deal with it, while others (like me) find banning a food just makes it worse.
I honestly don't have any foods that I feel guilty for eating. I've had meals where I ate way too much and afterwards felt a little stupid, but that had to do with stuffing myself. A healthy diet can include some heavy or not-very-nutritious foods, if you balance everything out!4 -

Gluten.
But I have celiac disease, otherwise I wouldn't ban it.
I prefer vegetarian carbonara to alfredo for pasta dishes. Always have. Thinking now of it, I might make it for us this weekend.
And beets. Beets are banned from life.5 -
Well now I want chicken alfredo...
I sent and looked up the recipe for a traditional alfredo sauce...nothing seemed so terrible to me. Is it high in calories...yes but there is a lighter version. It is very similar to a sauce that I use to make chicken noodle casserole. Add in some chicken and you are good to go. If you want less calories you could serve it over steamed/roasted vegetables.
I ran the recipe through the builder and it is only 157 calories per serving(4 servings total) not including the pasta.
Skinny Alfredo Sauce
INGREDIENTS:
12 ounces fettuccine (or any pasta shape)
1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil or butter
4 cloves garlic, pressed or finely-minced
3 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup chicken stock
1 cup low-fat milk (I used 1%)
3/4 cup freshly-grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
(optional toppings: chopped fresh parsley, extra Parmesan)
Here's the recipe site of someone is interested.
