Ok, so here's what happened. I did great on my first week back eating right and exercising daily.I didn't cheat AT ALL. Today I got out of the shower and thought to myself "man I feel like my stomach is flatter, I look good!" And like the IDIOT I am I decided to weight myself "really quick" before my regular weigh and measurements on Monday mornings. There was nothing in my stomach. I was naked as I usually am and it was the same time of day and I GAINED exactly one pound! What gives? Before this week I was eating fries and donuts, hell I had 4 muffins last week! How did I eat right, exercise and sweat and gain an entire pound?!

Did you just post that you were having headaches due to a cheat meal that was higher sodium?3

If you're having a high sodium meal, you're likely experiencing water retention. Weight also fluctuates. If the fluctuations on the scale are going to bother you, you need to stay off it.1
-
You ate a bunch of sodium laden foods yesterday and you weighed in at the end of today. Of course the scale was up.6

1 lb is well within the normal fluctuation zone. It's not even worth wondering about.6

I only weigh right when I wake up, butt naked, before I eat or drink, use the bathroom and on the same day at relatively the same time. I would never weigh after a shower either. But I'm weird. It may have been discouraging but just try to move on and get back to regularly scheduled programming. If I weigh any other way than stated above, I am just setting myself for anxiety and ridiculousness. I'm getting better about it!3

You said you weighed after you got out of the shower....
Was your hair dry or wet at the time?7 -
Calm down. A one pound increase on the scale is well in the realm of normal weight fluctuation. Even for people who've been eating at maintenance for years, it's not uncommon for their weight to fluctuate +/- a couple of pounds from one day to the next.

It's normal to fluctuate. You may want to stick to your once weekly weigh in.1

Yes I ate yesterday. Friday. Nothing unhealthy. Wasn't above my sodium allowance or fat allowance. Not even my carb allowance. All week I was super strict with everything I ate. Down to macros. I exercised only cardio this week. No strength training at all. This morning when I weighed I hadn't had anything to eat since my before bed tablespoon of peanut butter at 9pm. Which meant nothing, not even water had entered my stomach for 12 hours. My stomach was completely empty. I guess it's possible that I'm retaining water due to PMS type stuff, but my stomach was flatter than its been in months. I'm not a big girl so any fluctuations in water retention I usually notice. I guess I shouldn't be so upset about it. I just feel like I was super on top of my nutrition and exercises all week and feel like there should have been at least no gain at all. I feel a little bummed that I was Uber on top of it all and still managed to gain weight.0 -

It was towel dried. I always weigh with towel dried hair after my shower.0 -

I'm at maintenance and of course n=1 but my weight fluctuates up to 6lbs depending on activity from day to day.
It's just one day.2 -
This is why I weigh in every single day. My weight can fluctuate 3.5 to 4 pounds depending on who knows what. Then every Saturday morning I average my weight. That's the weight I go with and record it here if it's a loss. When I'm trying to lose I'm just looking for a downward trend. If I try hard enough I lose .5 to 1 pound, on average. I hate freaking out about the fluctuations. So for me weighing daily is a must.3

Your digestive system doesn't empty in 12 hours - it typically takes well over 30 hours (http://www.mayoclinic.org/digestive-system/expert-answers/faq-20058340).
Extra water weight can stick around for any doggone reason in the world (exercise, extra sodium or carbs compared to usual even if it's a healthy amount, time of month, something inflamed/healing, etc.), or no reason at all.
Weight does that. I've graphed mine daily for years, even before trying to lose, and on paper before I got a weight trending app (('m a data geek, not a weight obsessive).
The graph is always a jagged line of ups and downs from day to day. When I'm losing, the jagged line gradually moves downward, in a jagged fashion. When I'm gaining, the jaggedy points gradually trend upward. When I'm maintaining, they're jaggedy as if above and below an imaginary horizontal line.
That's how weight works. Jaggedly. Don't sweat it. Watch the trend, over multiple weeks.5 -
I can fluctuate up to 5lbs a day with my weight, due to all sorts of things not related to actual fat gains. Daily fluctuations are totally normal. OP, focus on your monthly weight trends instead of your daily or even weekly weigh-ins. This will give you a better idea of where you're actually at.2

I've been up after having been stellar and down after having indulged. In the short term I trust my log entries over the scales.
It's only a wild guess, but in your case I'd be suspicious of water retention due to increased exercise.0 -

I also weigh every day. The fluctuations are interesting and most of them are entirely explainable. I had one fluctuation in the middle of the week last week that kind of threw me off (gained 1.1 kg) ... still not entirely sure what happened there, but I was back on track the next day.
Fluctuations happen.1 -
What not to focus on: Normal day-to-day weight fluctuations.
What you totally should focus on: Today your stomach looked flatter than it has been IN MONTHS!!! Good job!4 -
Maybe you had a 1lb poo in your colon.
Or maybe your scales aren't calibrated.
Or maybe you have a little water retention due to the exercise you've been doing.
Or lots of extra things.
Don't sweat about 1lb.4 -
I weigh daily. Here's what 2 months of daily fluctuations look like for me.
For reference, 1kg = 2.2lb5 -
One pound is seriously not a big deal. Maybe shift your focus to how awesome your thinner stomach feels.1

Ya'll, this isn't the inquisition. It's possible to reassure her without criticizing. (I'm not speaking to everyone here, forgive me if I painted with a broad brush.)
Op, you're fine. I've learned this lesson as well. Weight fluctuates for a variety of reasons. Including TOM, sodium intake, sore muscles, ect.

Didnt realise anyone was criticising, let alone giving an inquisition.
but people are explaining the sort of things that contribute to daily fluctuations.
Just like you did yourself.3 -
I was perfect all week too, and i was up nearly 2lbs in my last weigh in. Annoying yes, but perfectly normal fluctuation.1
