...to cook for.

what sort of meal would impress you if it were made by a guy you were dating?

and which date is the right date for a guy to show off his cooking skills? 3rd? 4th? 5th?

HA! Best forum title ever. The best move I've seen is a guy getting one of his buddies who can really cook to make a meal and then he finishes it off in his own kitchen, having fooled the woman it was his own creation from the beginning. Pretty clever.

Does this woman have any dietary needs? Is she big on her cultural background?

This is a good answer. Honestly if he didn't burn down the house I'd be impressed. And if he did burn down the house then I'd be sympathetic, which isn't as good as impressed but it can still be made to work.

    Totally agree.
  • Hmmm, depends. I always like grilling. Topped off with a delicious yet healthy dessert.:)
  • Burro, could you make me a Thai dish?

3rd date. A toasted PB&J works for me. I'm really easy.

I agree with 3rd. Something light, something seasonal, and something pretty. So no casseroles. Maybe a vegetable puree soup to start (chilled pea soup perhaps?), a fish with some type of potatoes for a meal, then a light fruit dessert with sweet cream or mascarpone cheese. Energy for lovins afterwards, and it'll show you know what you're doing.

My husband impressed with baked salmon, grilled asparagus, and rice on the 5th date. He followed up with a mean shrimp scampi shortly thereafter.

The more things you make from scratch, the more impressed she'll be. If you make tacos or spaghetti using store bought ingredients she won't be terribly impressed, although I'm sure she'd applaud your efforts. Do what you do best in the kitchen- your "signature dish" if you have one. Whatever you think will make you shine and show off the best of your skills and talents. Good luck!

My love actually made me grilled chicken and rice with a veggie as a side. We have the same taste in food so it was easy to decide together what to have. He did all the cooking and cleanup after. It was the nicest dinner I've ever had.

I like breakfast food (except meat) so I'd generally enjoy that.

My fiance cooked for me the first time on our 3rd date. It was perfect. He made toasted black bean quesadillas with loads of veggies and homemade guacamole :-)

3rd if you great cooking skills , they say the way to mans heart of through his stomach but it works the same on women.

Id be impressed if you could cook at all and if it was delicious, brownie points for you:)

Im married and my husband barely cooks at all, but if he does he pretty good but could have his skills improved , luckily im not to bad at it myself but my real forte is baking

yay know what sweets tiramusu if she likes that , find out what her favorite dishes are and try to recreate it even if it doesn't turn out perfect she will be happy you put so much though into it .

That would be a cute 3rd or 4th date. After being with someone who did no cooking whatsoever (he honestly didn't know how to cook, and had very rigid, traditional views on gender roles), I would be appreciative either way. Nothing is sexier than a thoughtful man who knows how to throw down in the kitchen!

I guess if I had to pick, the perfect meal would be sautéed shrimp and vegetables with pasta, and strawberries with whipped cream for dessert.

I think this thread is a joke. There's no way they can cook or do dishes. I just checked with my husband and he says that men cannot do those things. He also confirmed that men can't fold laundry or operate a vacuum cleaner.
