I'm in I know March already 11 days gone but I'm going to try to walk 40 miles by end of March. I'm disabled have a below knee amputation walking is hard but I'm gonna keep trying!!!4

I will not have any of my normal exercise the next few days. I have Dr/Hosp appointments this week and an all day prep too do for one test ....I will HOPEFULLY be back too my old self by Wednesday.....

how in the world do you get your behind to not hurt from cycling? I have tried cycling so many times, and its painful on the backside! LOL Give me pointers, please!

Yes you can SpunkiMama! Better a bit late than never...WELCOME! I have an outside Bike. I dont like riding by myself. When husband and I use too ride a lot I had the same problem as you. We purchased those JELL seats. Those do work fairly well. I use too also fold a towel and put over the top of my seat which was extra cushioning...One you ride for several weeks it gets easier and easier....The hard part is the BEGINNING...I hope too encourage my husband too get our bikes ready this year so we can ride in the summer months..

1) Make sure your bicycle is set up so that it fits you properly. It also helps if you are not too upright.
2) Make sure you've got the right saddle for you. It needs to be wide enough so that your sitbones are comfortably placed on it, but not too wide.
3) Get a decent pair of cycling shorts with enough padding to cover your sitbones but not too much so that it bunches and causes friction.
4) Strengthen your upper body and core. You should not be putting all your weight on the saddle. Much of your weight should be on your feet, but that requires a strong core.
5) Sit with good posture.
6) Ride lots. And exercise lots in general.
These days, I can do a 400 km randonnee (400 km within a 27 hour time limit including all breaks) with no butt issues at all. A number of years ago, I could do 1200 km randonnees (1200 km within a 90 hour time limit including all breaks) with no butt issues. The only thing holding me back from doing 1200 km randonnees now is that my leg strength and fitness level need to build up a little bit more.2 -

Thanks Machka! As and experienced rider you do have the information we need. Mine fits my behind comfortably after several days of riding and is WHY I add a bit of extra cushioning till then....lol
Tests were early morning. Dr order too rest all day. No exercise....so you guys carry on!

Happy belated birthday @Machka9 !! And thanks for all the riding advice. Yea, I get sore bottom after a bike ride, but I've got a cheap mountain bike, so it makes sense with your detailed information. Now I understand a bit better the difference in bikes too and why my friends with the light race bikes don't have the issues of sore bottom.
Speaking of behinds...I'm behind again this month. Silly life getting in the way of my workouts. But I continue to trudge along.
