I'd wager that most people's issues concerning, this being used as; a dating website's because it, seems intentional/the only reason why they're here rather; than happenstance! I know I, wouldn't desire to; go grocery shopping & notice, some guy's just; there to flirt! However it's possible to, find a potential significant other; anywhere unintentionally & people should be, open to that possibility; even whilst here!
However considering how falsified the dating websites've become, I just don't fault anyone anymore even, if that's the only reason why they're here because it might be, their only; chance now lol!2 -

If it weren't for all the silly, crazy, snarky weirdos in this place, I probably would have walked away last month when things were getting really tough.
It's true. I gained back a ton of my losses last time I stopped doing the social part of the site. Stopped logging in everyday, stopped caring really.
I care about my friends and that does keep me logging in. Then I am motivated when I see all of them working so hard. If it was just me alone....I'd fail.
This is important for me, too. I love having cheerleaders pushing me to keep going... but I also love being a cheerleader for those that need a little push themselves. I didn't realize how far just someone acknowledging my efforts would go to keep me working. I'm probably not the only one that feels that way.
This is true too. It's the being around driven like minded people that helps me most. Most people in my real life don't give a *kitten* if I run 15 miles, if I chose carrot sticks over french fries. If I hit a new PR or my lowest weight logged. But here is different, they care about all that stuff as much as I do.
Same here1 -
Ive seen some people get so down...and its because of other people on here...interest levels are not the same, one way interest, attractions gone bad, weirdos etc.... and I think that must be detrimental to the weight loss journey.
This is true
you just have to learn not to take this place too seriously2 -

As any place with human interactions I think the dating and attraction aspect of things is completely natural too. I mean while this is perhaps a strange platform where we all stare at a screen and read through things, we still imagine ourselves in some kind of physical a place filled with people of similar goals etc. I mean thats human nature to make things that way. We didn't really evolve with internet and imaginary places. At the end of the day, its definitely nice to vent and relax, and look for support when we need it.
I think the important bit is how you see this platform. @DeficitDuchess have made a good metaphor, when you have people seeing it as a dating platform, you wouldn't wanna go to grocery shopping there really. I mean its kind of creepy.
Sadly there is the "I am bitter at life, I need to troll or make others upset" type of people that flood the place as well. I guess thats natural too. However in real life its a little easier to avoid them. Here they seem to make a new account and show up again and again.
I guess thats the internet for you though. I still think this is an amazing platform people can get a lot of support and motivation!4 -

Obviously, aspiring amateur porn stars and porn sites bots take MFP very seriously since they are here almost every day.
I don't see anything wrong with finding someone special among like minded. If it happened simultaneously and both parties are happy, let them be. But, treating MFP as a dating site or escort service is silly. There are not so bright people everywhere real life or net0 -
I log on to MFP for the surport of folks who are going thur the same trials I am. I don't have the snarky, passive aggressiveness here that I get from my "surport" in the "real" world.
Just a thumbs up here is worth 10x more than a half hearted "way to go" from jealous folks, who are not happy or threatened by my desire to lower my weight to somewhere healthy.
I like the interaction, serious, silly, and sometimes the boot to backside I need to get off my pity path.0 -

Is it weird that I avoid the dating sites because I'm NOT looking for dates? And even weirder that I'm here to track my calories and exercise? Memes and gifs too as of the last few days. And the selfie threads are pretty legit. But I don't have any dating aspirations. It's ok if people WANT to do that...more power to them...but the social aspect here is pretty good. I like it so far. I've def had some lulz. Which is a nice change from other social sites.0 -
The social aspect makes it fun. I do think people can find friendships, relationships, bathing buddies anywhere at any time so why shouldn't or couldn't this be everything to all? I think some see the "would you kiss" or "would you date" threads and think that is real and people are actually planning on kissing and dating but it is what it is a fun site to kill LOTS of time on and if you happen to make a new friend then yay.
and (1) do people actually only work 9-5 anymore?
(2) aren't we all just really here for the D?
Haven't worked those hours in years. I work 8-6. Doesn't everyone?0 -
I was on Match when, I was in my 20's during; the 1st decade of this century but I, was just there to browse then to; view my options because I didn't actually, desire to date until; my health improved but it never did & I didn't see many of, the same people there often for; like more than a few months! However this decade many, were there for at least a; couple of years.
When I left Ok Cupid in September they, were advertising a rubber ducky with; a message of something like: "Here's the rub, our website's supported by our paid members; join now!" This' a huge, red flag because if it must be supported by paid members rather, than unpaid members that're viewing advertisements instead; that's a clear indication that there aren't many members!0 -

That's usually a type of message to people that use AdBlockers. They're saying if you use the AdBlockers, we can't make profit, so perhaps you could support us by spending x-amount of money. I wrote some codes before0 -

Although some, websites don't allow; them: I believe Hulu was 1 & it's specifically seeking people to, pay not; just disable them.0 -

I am pleasantly surprised how much I enjoy the social aspect of this site. I have met some great people that I never would have had the opportunity to meet if I didn’t venture into the forums.
Along fun people to interact with in the chit chat and fun and games, I have found a lot of helpful information scrolling through and posting in the other sections, and I enjoy reading people’s opinions. I also love looking at the success stories, there are some truly amazing and dedicated people here.
I have received some great advice and excellent support, that I am very thankful for. I don’t know how exactly, but it seems to be benefiting my health and fitness goals.
As far as being a “dating site”, I always think people are kidding when they make those references…that has never occurred to me. And if some people take the social aspect to a whole new level, I’d rather they are on my computer screen then in person, much easier to deal with!

The social aspect has really helped me a great deal. It keeps me logging in, and logging in reminds me to log my food and watch my calories, and keeps me moving forward, even if it's slow.
If it weren't for all the silly, crazy, snarky weirdos in this place, I probably would have walked away last month when things were getting really tough.
I resemble that remark....

As a certified introvert, social media & MFP are perfect ways for me to socialize with people since IRL I don't go out that much other than for work, gym or to buy something but no parties or gatherings unless its a family affair. Even in the gym, I just go there to workout & only talk to the trainers if I need assistance. But this doesn't mean that I'm anti-social, in fact I'm craving connection just like anyone else. its just that I'm really shy with new people & big crowds really drains the hell out of me no matter how much I try. Plus being connected with supportive, like-minded people here is a huge help to my healthier journey aside from expanding my mind in learning about different cultures (and tbh in improving my English as well at least even in writing ).4

I definitely agree with this. Your written English is better than many native speakers. You're doing well.1 -
