I'm also only 5'1" and need to keep it under 1200 to lose weight. I also have trouble getting enough protein when doing under 1200 calories. I just found Premier Protein drinks that have 30 g protein, 1g sugar and low fat. At 160 calories, I can have that for dinner and a tangerine for dessert. Might work for you as well. I also like to make fruit smoothies and, with a scoop of whey protein, they run around 250 calories and are very filling.

Also, when I'm short on calories by dinner, I will get on the stationary bike and gain a few calories back (I see someone else suggested this above).

Thanks! Yes apparently people have a hard time putting themselves in my shoes, at 5'1 I am not as needy in the calorie department as people who are coming at this from a 5'5 angle. Thanks for the suggestion!
I'm amazed an RD would agree with you that to stop binging that you need to eat 1200 a day. I'd pay a more experienced professional to treat you because that is terrible advice coming from an RD. I don't care if you're 5'1"..you're eating less than a child's intake.
Guess you should show me your nutrition degree because I trust this person and they helped me get down from 200 lbs. ;)
...is that all i needed to put in order to say my own comments? lol
well... darn... missed my chance i guess. Although my concern was more the binge eating itself then the 1200
well she said no lectures.. so.. its up to her really to do what she feels she needs to do at this point in her life, we could make suggestions but shes only going to follow her own gut.. who knows, maybe i am wrong and shes on the right track.
I'm sorry is this English? Anyways...

Edit: thank you to everyone who gave me helpful food answers! There were too many to respond to but I read them all. I'm gonna go with a cottage cheese and some veggies. I like the shrimp recommendations and will go that way in the future. As for tomorrow, no more added oils on my veggies to put me in this position again!

I know this is an older post (likely OP has gone to bed) but I like canned tuna (straight from the can, is that weird?) on a bed of lettuce with tomato/other veggies as a light lunch or snack. Shouldn't run you much at all, and it's pretty filling. When I was a kid my dad would make tuna salad in a tomato, too, which was really good, but might run you more calories. Alternatively, just have a ridiculously big salad with light dressing. I do that for lunch all the time because I've got a bit of a salad addiction  Steamed chicken and veggies is always a satisfying low-calorie meal, too.

Well actually it's concern about your binge eating, but as a former binge eater myself, i understand your defensiveness and i won't take offense to your snark towards my caring. :)

I can just sense your projecting. Anyways! Moving on

Haha dang, I wish I had a salad addiction. That sounds great. I am fine on lunch but more looking for dinner options. I tend to want a heavy dinner because that gets me sleepy. I would try chicken usually but it's hard to keep that super low cal when they add oils to the kind I buy.

As Look_Its_Kriss said, you're getting defensive and the problem is much deeper than the 280 calorie question you had. I can promise you if you see another RD they will not give you that kind of advice. It sounds to me like you heard what you wanted to hear, not what they really told you.

I've seen enough RDs and am friends with a few I have not paid for their services, and they all consider 1200 for handicapped/bedridden people needing to lose weight. They also don't prescribe a set calorie amount. They focus on developing healthier habits of eating ,, making better choices so you don't feel pigeonholed into eating a very small unsustainable amount of food.

A can of chunk light tuna in water is 90 calories 2 large eggs is 180 calories. Spray a gram of oil in a pan to scramble the eggs, stir in the tuna, add salt and pepper to taste, and you have a high protein meal for 280.

Giant egg white omelet. Use spray instead of butter/oil. Scratch the cheese or use just a little. You can make a huge lovely one for few calories and really enjoy it plus get a good protein hit to fill you up .

I'd have a spinach omelet. At only about 100 calories each eggs are incredibly filling and nutritious.

Agree with an egg white omelette. Salsa, lots of veggies, maybe a little feta or avocado if I had calories left. That is always my "post vacation dinner" after getting home from a weekend getaway!

My solution is exercise and eat back those calories. The purpose is net calories not 1200 strictly. I honestly expect there are other issues beyond only having 1200 calories but your actions and choices are up to you.

Starting out by narrowing the scope of advice you will consider is one thing - it can be counterproductive but that's up to you - but doing it as rudely as you did, painting a negative characterisation on anyone who might have advice you don't like as "lecturing", is unnecessary and strange.

Many, many, many of us on here have struggled with binge eating. Our experience is that over - restriction plays a crucial part in the behaviour. I imagine that your narrowing is intended to block out that prevailing advice, though why, I can't really understand. But what you have done is invalidate and insult a huge swathe of people who share your exact issue.

If all you wanted was advice on meals under 300 calories, you could have just asked for that and left all the rudeness and anger out of it.

Nah, maybe you're just perceiving my wording as angry, but I haven't lashed out at anyone. I am just sick of people trying to give medical advice when my question is only about food. I trust my RD over random internet people any day of the week.
Recipes/food suggestions is another thing, that I like internet advice for. I just have to give the disclaimer for do-wells who like to lecture when they don't know how small my body is. I am petite and maybe you don't know what that's like, but 1200 is normal for dieting.

Please no lectures about eating 1200. I am overweight and need to lose. I'm coming off an epic binge and my current stats are incorrect. I see an RD, etc., and we both agree to end this month of binging I need to eat 1200 a day. I've yet to succeed in that (another warning for you, no lectures about me eating 1200, I'm not freaking starving here, I'm 5'1). Thanks to some stupid oil covered veggies, I'm up to 1050-some cal's today. I need a filling dinner idea. Anyone have a suggestion?

What is your current weight? How much do you need to lose? How many exercise calories are you burning?
