4/06 - 6 miles

4/09 - 4 miles

4/12 - 10 miles
4/13 - 6 miles
4/14 - 20 miles
Today's run: I told myself I was going to run 11 min/miles. And then I hit the big button with the 6 on it. And I never did slow down to that 11 min/mile. I took 20 second walk breaks every 5 1/2 minutes for the first 14 or so miles, and then every 6 miles for the remainder. I did have to stop for a 3 minute bathroom break around 7 miles, but otherwise just turned on the autopilot and let my legs do their thing.
My heartrate didn't break 170, and I've seen it top 190. I'm sure it was faster than I should have done for a training run. But if I don't run race distance at race pace, how do I know that I can keep it up for the full distance? Um... So, I'm an idiot, but it hasn't killed me, yet. I am hopeful of that 4:30 marathon finish. Not that I wanted to do another hour, either - but I have 2 more months to work up to that.
My hip has been giving me some trouble for at least 3 weeks, now. I say hip, but it's the quad and the hamstring and the glute. It warms up and works fine, and I don't seem to be making it worse, but it's not really getting better, either. It's holding steady at "well, that's annoying" all this time. It is the short leg - not that I look so unbalanced at a glance. I've never had them measured. But I noticed a while back that my knees aren't even at the same height. I think I also lead with the opposite hip. So, today I changed it up to try to lead with the "bad" hip. It felt better to the hip, but awkward in general for running. If I work on that for a while, perhaps I can strengthen the weaker side? It's worth a shot. I seem to run with a little bit of a "swing" to my step. So, the "leading with the other foot" was accomplished by switching my breathing to start each breath with the "bad" leg instead of the "good" one. When I'm running without music, it's so much easier to breathe on 6 steps, instead of every 4. I should listen to more waltzes.
I have eliminated another sports bra from consideration for runs of 20 miles. None of the others chafe my shoulders. And that one is hard to remove when it's sweaty. Also, 20 miles apparently crosses a threshhold, where sweat saturates the entire pair of capris and runs down my calf to dampen my socks. My feet are generally dry after a run - but not this time.
Halfway to my goal. Time to play some Skyrim. Hope the Xbox will cooperate, today.5 -
4/2-3.3 miles
4/3-3 miles
4/5-3.5 miles
4/6-2.5 miles
4/8-4.2 miles
4/9-5 miles

@autumnblade75 Nice run! what did your pace end up at? Also, what marathon are you running? If you're at 20 miles with 2 months to go, you've got plenty of time to keep it going. My two 20 milers aren't until mid May, and my marathon is mid June. You're doing great!
@angmarie28 great running!0 -

Zombies, Run! says it's a 10:27 average pace. I didn't bother to pause for the bathroom break, because the app doesn't seem to work like that. It'll stop my music, or the story clip, but it will add the time back in, anyway. If you calculate pace based on the time on the treadmill, it was 10:19 average.
I'll be doing the Mayor's Midnight Sun Marathon in Anchorage, AK. Runcation, baby! We're racing on the same day. It will be interesting to compare notes.
My plan this time around is to run the full distance in training. Last time, I had issues after mile 18, which is as far as the longest training run I had completed. Coincidence? I don't really believe it.
Gatorade seems to be working better as fuel than the gummy bears did. But I've got another year's experience under my belt, too. Even though last summer didn't see many miles out of me. I was waylaid by Pokemon Go!

Heh. I have a hard time keeping it slow on the treadmill. I find it impossible outdoors. I need to investigate what pacers they'll have in AK.
I love my treadmill.0 -

My marathon has 4:15 and 4:30 for pavers in the range I'm hoping for. Problem is one is at the very fast end and the other is the slower end. Planning to hang with the 4:30 group to start....but well see0 -

I just can't find any information about pacers, anywhere. But your strategy (@WhatMeRunning) is close to how I handled my recent Half. I didn't catch the next fastest group, but I didn't start looking for them until around the 10 mile mark. I *probably* could have run with them, but didn't want to find out that I'd been too ambitious halfway through the race. Especially since the slower group would still bring a PR.
Anything under 4:55 will be a PR for the marathon. I feel VERY confident that I can do that.2 -

Walked 6+ miles today with minimal hip discomfort. Tried running *very* briefly, only like two minutes, just as a quick test, and it still felt a bit stiff, so it looks like I'm still a couple days out from actual running. I did schedule a PCP appointment for next week, just in case it's still not cooperating by then.
Meanwhile, my meds are still being adjusted and tweaked. Adding one, tapering off another. I've had two relatively good days yesterday and today, so that's encouraging. I think I have maybe another week in the outpatient program before going back to work.
Today's NSV: I went shopping for a swimsuit today. The one I wound up buying was a size 10. I used to be a size 20. Talk about amazing.18 -
@RespectTheKitty awesome on everything.0

Well, this is embarrassing.
I went to sign up for the HM I talked about earlier just to find out I was already registered. After a lot of digging, it looks like last September I signed up for the Heartland 39.3 Series (the day signups began) which is 3 HM's and this is #2 of those 3 runs. This means I did an unwitting DNS for the Rock the Parkway HM on 4/8...the same one my employer was mentioning a week ago...not that I wanted to do a HM that day but probably would have if I knew I had paid for it already.
It also means I am signed up for the Running With The Cows HM on 5/13, which is technically a "down week".
That is one of my favorite events too. Not sure what I am going to do in that case. I'll probably run it.
How in the world did I do this to myself??I get injured, have lots of downtime, focus on "coming back" and COMPLETELY FORGET I had signed up for these events??? Is this my lesson for "signing up super early"? Have I missed any other runs???
I did some more digging and found I am also registered for the Hospital Hill HM on 6/3 already. That's cool. I had pretty much planned on doing that HM already, I just hadn't tried signing up for it yet. Now I don't have to.
So, has anyone else done this to themselves before, or am I the only person bone-headed enough to do this to themselves??4 -

April goal: 55.4/100 miles
Good luck to all who'll be running in Boston!! Cheering for you!5 -
@WhatMeRunning - Running with the cows is actually the event that started me on my journey to running my first half marathon. My boss is from Kansas and wanted to do it this year, and I was the only other "runner" she knew. (I was barely living through 5ks at the time.) She then fell off the wagon, but not before she got my best friend fired up about this half marathon idea. But, I am now doing the Mickelson half marathon in Deadwood, SD in June instead of going clear to KS. But, it looked like a pretty cool one!
I don't seem to forget that I signed up for the race- I do, however, not put the calendar pieces together when I sign up for the next one. Thus, how I have 3 fairly substantial length races (for me) within a month of each other.... oops3 -

Yippee - finally a good run! This week and last week work has been kicking me in the kitten and I've been in a bit of a funk. So today I packed my running gear and said that I was leaving work early to get a run in no matter what. Although I didn't get out as early as I planned, the weather was perfect and the sun was glorious. I ran a nice paved trail for two miles out and back. I would have been okay to go longer but I had to get groceries (fortunately the trail was right next to the grocery store parking lot) and get home to my poor neglected pup. It felt really good mentally and physically to get this run in!
Tomorrow promises to be nice in the morning so I will go out for my group long run. Meeting the April goal does not look good at this point, but hopefully I'll get on a much better streak starting now.6 -
No running today. Got up at the normal time, had a normal breakfast, grabbed a sandwich at Subway at the airport, and flew to Boston. Met my sister, picked up the packet, had dinner at Subway on Boylston Street. Was feeling awful, but dinner picked me up a bit. Got the food entered into my tracker, and found I was 700 calories below target for the day. Well! Got that corrected, and I'm feeling a bit better before I turn in for the night.
Tomorrow I'll see what opportunities there are for an easy 30 minute run in the morning. Sunday, it will be less time than that on the last 2 miles of the course.
Gotta love Boston on Patriots' Day weekend. My sister and I keep thinking we see someone we know, then they turn and it isn't. It's just a similarity in coloration and features, coupled with being built like a runner. And maybe wearing a Boston Celebration jacket from a past year that the runner I know ran Boston.8 -
@MNLittleFinn I really doubt you are slow
but they do always say slow and steady wins the race!! I've always been so drawn to ultra marathoners, so I think that's really cool!
