    This is what showed up in my area when all the Hostess stuff ran out. My daughter eats the little donuts. I don't buy the rest of the crap.

    I'm from the Philly area too and I used to love TastyKakes. The peanut butter Kandy kakes and coconut juniors were my favorite, but the recipe or something has been changed and now they don't taste good to me.

    Ick! They didn't start carrying these where I live (Maine) until hostess went out of business. I bought some and they taste like cardboard. They're dry and bland!

    And now I learn they come from the state of Pennsylvania! When I lived in PA a few years ago we would go to the farmer's market every week for the Amish sticky buns, cookies, and doughnuts, why would anyone with access to food like that buy tasty cakes???

    The appeal is highly dependent on your personal tastes and which of the varieties you tried. I think most of them taste terrible, so I get where you're coming from, but I do like the Butterscotch Krimpets. Mind you, I think that they are the best of that type of packaged snack cake. And I hate cream filling, so that gives them an edge. But they don't beat a homemade butter cake. Oh, no.

    I will say that I find most of the Amish baked goods to be not to my taste. Way too sweet and sticky for me. I've always wanted to try a fastnacht, though, but never been in the right area at the right time.

    Eh, we finally got them in my area, after a friend from PA had been talking them up for years. They didn't live up to the hype. Let's face it, a lot of snackity cake love is based on childhood memories. Except....

    There's one my husband loves because it's huge and about 320 calories so it fits into his lunchtime calorie budget and fills him up. I'm not that into them, they're not bad, but not what I want to blow my fun calories on. Except for this one:

    I don't want them that often, I don't care about them that much, then suddenly I do. And I have to get a box, eat two or three, and pawn the rest off on my husband.

    Yeah...my mom said it's because they removed all of the trans fats...but, since I don't get them often (like once every other year when we go back to visit), they still taste heavenly to me, LOL :)

    They don't have those where I live. We have Little Debbies, Parkside Bakery, Entenmann's, and store brands.
