I love butter lettuce.
I actually don't care for romaine much, I think it's boring and like most other greens better, but like everyone else I get romaine all the time as it seems to be quite common if you buy a salad.1 -
Only iceberg for me! I have to severely limit my intake of leafy greens due to their high oxalate content since I tend to form kidney stones so iceberg lettuce is my best option, since it's the lowest in oxalates, and even then I have to keep my portion sizes quite small.5

I eat almost any lettuce as long as it isn't shredded. I loathe shredded lettuce.0

<pedant> Why is the "Iceberg" first in the title of the graphic, when the column on the left, including the photo, is the Romaine? I don't think these are called the same thing internationally, necessarily, even in English-speaking countries. </pedant>.
Romaine is also easier to grow - a little more heat-tolerant, among other things.
I'd rather eat romaine, too, but iceberg has plenty enough nutrition for its number of calories. It just doesn't taste as good or have as pleasant a texture.
Leaf and butterhead (Boston/bibb) type lettuces are also nice, not to mention all those other kinds of yummy salad greens.4 -
To hell with lettuce. I prefer spinach. Fills me up better, tastes better.5

What I hate about these comparisons is that it suggests that there are only two choices and you should pick one. My preference is to eat as much variety as possible when it comes to foods, especially vegetables. (And I'd cry if limited to either iceberg or romaine, both of which are boring and tasteless compared to so many other greens.)
What next, the old "sweet potato" vs. "potato" comparison? (IMO, both, depending on what you feel like and what else you are eating.) Broccoli vs. cauliflower? Turnips vs. rutabaga?7 -
Shrug - I like iceberg. It's mild tasting i.e. Not bitter and doesn't interfere with the flavors of other stuff in my salad. It's crunchy and you can spear it easily on your fork. Spring mix doesn't like to spear easily and I end up stabbing it over and over until I give up and use my finger to get it on. Iceberg also lasts longer, spring mix gets so slimy and gross. Another bonus, it's so much cheaper!7

What's wrong with crunchy water?

It lasts a lot longer in the fridge, too.2 -
I mix them - romaine for the taste and iceberg for the crunch. But you are right - I too have always thought of iceberg lettuce as crunchy water!0

Honestly, I have one of these for cut vegetables and it's been working wonders. Though, I don't think Rubbermaid recommends cutting or washing the produce. I'm thinking of picking up the 23 dollar value pack at Wal Mart.

Eh, I eat both. Sure, iceberg doesn't have much nutritional value but it's also so few calories, who cares?1

Seriously! I cant wrap my head around why anyone would give a *kitten* about what kind of lettuce I eat? smh2 -
I really like all lettuces including iceberg. My husband has IBS and deep leafy lettuces are definitely a trigger for him so we mostly eat salads with iceberg. I do like to throw in some butter lettuce and that seems to be ok for him.
I have to admit, as much as I love romaine, it does mess with me (I have IBS). Buying hearts of romaine helps sometimes because they're not as green.
I dearly miss leaf lettuces. I love red leaf and green leaf.0 -

But a lettuce flavored snowcone doesn't sound very yummy...0 -

Really? Lettuce causes you IBS issues? Geez. You sound like you have it worse than my wife (and she has a lot of food issues).0 -

Dark leafy greens. Raw. Yup. To be honest, I have to be careful with a lot of raw vegetables. I can't eat cruciferous veggies raw, they cause me problems too. Which grieves me terribly. I adore coleslaw. If I want to use broccoli or cauliflower for crudites, I need to blanch them.0 -
I bought a head of iceberg last night and thought of y'all hating on it.5
