Has anyone tried this diet?

Any positives and negatives?

I couldn't get this to work for me - the two 500 calorie days were tough. Now I zig-zag my calories differently. I eat less Mon-Thursday and maintenance Friday - Sunday.

The positive is being able to maintain a deficit on a consistent basis. Really that's all you need for weight loss. Just find something that you can be consistent at.

I couldn't see the 500 calorie days as a maintenance tool for me either.

I follow 5:2, but I don't really consider it a "diet". Instead it's more of a eating style or plan, a way for me to reach a sustainable deficit and reach my goals. I couldn't do the 500 on lower calorie days, so I tweaked it to fit me by adjusting my regular calories days and upping my lower calorie days to 700-800, so I'd still lose weight. I've lost 4lbs so far in the past two months. I plan to maintain using this plan as well, just switching from 5:2 to 6:1 so then I'll only have one lower calorie day.

It's all about finding what works for you and viewing what you do as a lifestyle change. I choose to cycle my calories like this now because I plan to continue to do so when I'm ready to maintain. If I viewed it as a diet, that would eventually end and I'd stopped doing, I'd probably fail (only because that's just who I am). By seeing this as my way of life, because it's something that helps me reach my goals and it works for me, helps me see it as something I can continue doing even at maintenance.

    Good luck to you .
