Hello! I'm on day 4 of the blood sugar diet, anyone else on the same journey ?

Unless you are diabetic there is no reason to track you blood sugar.4

Are you being medically supervised?
It is a vlcd and can cause all sorts of problems.2 -

Well everything he writes makes sence anyway, his book states it is for everyone *although mostly diabetic but I think it's a great start for me as I've stuck with it for 5 days now and my ibs hasn't flared up so ill let you guys know how I go6

I'm doing BSD and loving it (mostly). I feel awesome and suits me perfectly as I don't want to diet every date. I found the book so inspiring.7

*Psychology - and he actually studied psychiatry. Psychology is not a science, it is a subject area. Psychologists, and indeed psychiatrists are not scientists. And even if they were, psychology and psychiatry has nothing to do with blood sugar or nutrition. He is completely unqualified in this area. Believe what woo you will, but don't insult scientists by giving this guy the title.11 -

Oh yeah haha just read it, oh well I'm trying not to insult anyone the science behind the blood sugar diet anyway is what inspired me and he put it in a way that was inspiring to read2 -

This book doesn't contain real science. He wrote the first chapter or two.....my blood tests before.....my blood tests after kind of thing. Then the primary writer took over......now that we have proof. Um what? How is this any kind of proof. I'm not a scientist (either) but even I know anecdotal "evidence" when I see it.
One persons result is hardly proof. So many factors could have contributed to positive results: any weight loss may have triggered positive results, exercise may have triggered positive results, diet type (ie: Mediterranean) may have triggered positive results, genetic factors may have triggered positive results.
I'm not inclined to read the Blood Sugar Diet.......my guess is the same standards of "science" are applied there.8 -

Well I did not read the book but I did go to the source the book writer and you quote - Newcastle university. Google is amazing!
Here is some more information on the subject. Diabetes UK is actually the organisation that funded the research
Diabetes UK specifically stateThe director of research at Diabetes UK, Iain Frame, claimed that people should not embark on this type of extreme diet without the help and approval of a dietitian or doctor.
There is no note on the university website that would suggest that it would be a good idea to do this
1. if you are not diabetic
2. they actually (as above) state to do this under close supervision.
The university is doing follow up research and following the people that did have a positive outcome on the initial small trial - Results are not due until the end of 2018!
What I cannot find is a connection between the journalist writer and the university at all! That makes me really wonder about his credentials on the book. He took legitimate (but unfinished research, moulded it - registered a website, wrote a book and found a massive money spinner! That is really all. Really if it was as clearcut as he states on his website why would they still pump in millions of pound into really interesting research for diatestes 2 patients (only!)
Somehow I trust the university website more than some journalist who wrote a book and registered a website to make money from. I do admit that I have serious issues with non-scientific writers writing about nutrition. It IMO devalues science and scientists.5 -

I think psychiatry is a science, he would have studied loads of general science, all his reports are extremely scientific. Gets my vote anyway.

This is nothing more than a fad diet, unless you're medically supervised, eating less than 1,000 calories is dangerous. Your body needs the necessary nutrition to function properly. People write books over diets, because the masses of people that want to lose weight quickly will buy them.4

I see that your are excited....but you missed the whole point of my post. Your anecdotal "evidence" isn't proof of any kind. Scientific studies contain control groups (this costs money). This diet compared to a more standard diet. People with the same health markers compared to other people with the same health markers.....the ONLY difference being the type of diet they chose.
Just losing weight IN ANY MANNER will improve certain health markers. Just adding exercise can improve health markers too. The real question is can you attribute those improvements to this specific plan......nope.

You know whatever works for you in the end of the day I see a lot of negativity (and some lovely positivity and support) about this diet and as someone who can't eat a lot of food anyway without feeling sick or spending the day on the toilet (sorry not sorry) this is the first time I've felt good and in control of my food might not be for everyone but the book makes sence and it's working for me

a very low calorie diet would work for anyone but it doesnt make it safe. not to mention the lean mass one would lose while eating this way and also the other health issues that can stem from a VLCD.5 -
