This does not seem to be a new subject. Autoimmunity and the Gut

The Blood-Brain Barrier: Connecting the Gut and the Brain
https://ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2553040/
With autoimmune diseases being associated with permeability of the gut and neurological diseases associated with permeability of the blood brain barrier (BBB) and both issues being related this needs more research in my view.
How to Repair a Leaky Blood-Brain Barrier

It seems some of the ways to resolve a leaking gut may help fix a leaking BBB, Protecting both from leaking is very important.

I'm sure the Daily Mail did a great job of summarizing the research accurately.
Since you're posting this (no doubt to inform us), can you share with us how to know how much is too much?13 -
Oh well. I'll wear a pad for my leaky gut.16

I know when I want reliable science reporting, my first stop is the Daily Fail.14

I wasn't disappointed. There's a headline, and then some bullet points to scare you, implying that exercise can cause obesity and diabetes.7 -
The Daily Mail, my go-to for reliable health and fitness information.13

I always thought leaky gut was a bogus diagnosis with no scientific support.10

Leaky gut is a hypothetical condition that only really exists in the minds of alternative medicine folks...10

It fits well with the "alternative news" approach of the Daily Mail then.7 -
IDK about leaky gut (??) but it's no secret that too much exercise can cause health problems. So, best not to do too much.
"Too much" in relation to anything should be a clue that you may experience a negative outcome. If not, how/why would it be "too much"?5 -
And I always thought laxatives were the culprit of the leaky gut.5
-
Well, no more exercise for me then

Do you actually read these things at all or just see something in the title and post it?GaleHawkins wrote: »
- this study seems to be faulty in that they were measuring sucralose which means it's not necessarily exercise but this that is causing the issue. Sucralose is an artificial sweetner and so this is more an environmental factor (as it has been found in natural water) - not exercise.

- This study details no connection to exercise/exertion. It speaks of triggers but says nothing specifically about exercise.
"Abstract: In this review, triggers of autoimmunity are examined, principally environmental. The number of possible environmental triggers is vast and includes chemicals, bacteria, viruses, and molds."
"Conclusion: Factors such as genetics, the environment, infections, and the gut microbiota all play a role in the mediation of autoimmune disorders."
"...It is clear that the gut microbiota has a profound and long-term effect starting at birth on the host immune system. It is also evident that it plays a significant role in autoimmune diseases both inside and outside the gut. There are still questions that remain to be answered: does the immune system shape the gut microbiota or vice-versa? This complex and dynamic symbiosis needs further elucidation and may help in determining the outcome of autoimmune diseases in patients. "

- Again, doesn't prove the point you're trying to make that exercise does more than harm than good.

- Not one study is linked and they are trying to sell a product. Do I REALLY need to say more?

Alternate headline?

Daily Mail have new "eat this magical thing and lose weight!" article at least once a day.
This week they've had one about ACV helping weight loss and stress in pets. Not even joking.
They can't even report actual news factually let alone science reporting.3 -
I imagine too much exercise probably could be correlated with all kinds of other imaginary, made-up diagnoses too. You can correlate anything with anything if you cherry-pick your stats and manipulate the variables enough.
In other news, the per capita consumption of cheese is correlated with the revenue generated by golf courses. True fact based upon the statistics:

Leaky gut is not an actual medical condition.

Sure. If I run too much, my knees will hurt. But Gale is telling us about a different kind of bad outcome, this leaky gut stuff is nebulous and hidden. Any one of us might have it and not even know!!3 -

But...we don't. Because as Sidesteel noted - it's not real. And even so, his links don't back up what he's saying AT ALL.2 -

I imagine they sell fried cheese curds on golf courses in Wisconsin so I believe this is the source of this correlation.5 -

Mmmmm. Fried cheese curds make my leaky gut happy. And I'm not even from Wisconsin.2 -

It's also been proven that there's a direct correlation between the number of deaths by falling out of a wheelchair and the unadjusted cost of 16 oz. of potato chips:

Spoiler: it's not a real thing.
If you need a Daily Mail link and a sales page to make your point, you shouldn't make it.
And just to add to the bonfire - Dr. Oz thinks leaky gut will be a proven thing soon, so...3 -

I'm trying to imagine getting my 160 lb mastiff, or even my cat, to drink ACV... I don't see that ending well for me. Talk about stressing your pets.3 -

When my dearly departed kitty was suffering from mouth issues, a friend was trying to convince me to switch him over to a homemade raw diet, and the recipe she showed me included ACV, and it had to be the type with the "mother" in it. Because ACV is magic. As is raw organic non-GMO grass-fed chicken. Fixes everything.2
