How many calories do I need to consume to lose weight + what exercises should I do?

I am 5'2" and I weigh 109lbs. I've heard that it is harder for short people to lose weight, so I am struggling to find out which exercises will help me lose weight, and how many calories I should consume a day.

I have been 5'2" for a while now, but back then I used to weigh 105lbs ish and I'd like to go back to that weight because I have noticed my legs have been getting quite fat and I'm not really happy with my current figure.

If anyone could recommend how many calories I am meant to consume and which exercises worked for them it would be very helpful! Also feel free to add me as a friend :)

You're at a healthy weight - have you considered doing a recomp instead of weight loss? (eating at maintenance whilst doing a progressive lifting program to lose fat and build some muscle at the same time?)

Put your stats in to MFP to get your calories and have a look at some of the threads about lifting programmes to determine which one might best suit you

u have the perfect tool already, MFP!

    1. set up ur profile to lose 1 ib a week n it will give u.ur daily caloric allowance then LOG UR FOOD INTAKE DAILY n try to stay below the allowance n u should be done in 4 weeks!
    2. assuming u r relatively young (under 40) with no body injury or condition, just pick an exercise u like. the best exercise is the one u enjoy n stick with! u dont need any special exercise to lose 4 ibs but u can CERTAINLY do it for health reasons.

No to the bit in bold, you're at a healthy bmi, in fact you're at the lower end of healthy and really don't have much (if anything) to actually lose. 1lb/month would be a better target or even better would be to look at recomping, which would involve eating at maintenance (or you could probably afford to eat slightly above) and doing a progressive lifting programme.

Agree with @livingleanlivingclean recomping is probably the way to go, 4lb can be a normal water weight fluctuation from your hormones. There's a great thread over on the maintaining board.

As for exercise, strength training would be good for improving your muscle tone, there are a number of progressive lifting programs around that are aimed at women such as Strong Curves and New Rules of Lifting.

    Just curious--how old are you?

1lb/week is too aggressive for someone looking to lose less than 5 lbs.

Agree with others that recomping may provide the results OP desires more than losing a few pounds since weight fluctuations of less than 5 lbs are completely normal for women.
