Back at it again. Lost 20lbs and took a break, maintained. Now I'm black at it and want to lose the last 20lbs.

What are your thoughts on the Keto Diet? I hate the word Diet....what do you all think of this lifestyle change? I am a carb BABY, huge huge into carbs, and not just good carbs, I could rip through a loaf of bread in a matter of a few days lol

Does anyone have any positive or negative opinions? Any tips to get through the first little bit? If I don't stick with it will I blow up and gain a tone of weight back even in a cal defect?

I have to say, I lost 20lbs eating whatever I wanted, I just stayed within my calories...but then plateaued for a while, that's why I decided to take a break and simply maintain. Will reducing my carbs really make that much of a difference?

Diet or lifestyle, it's all the same thing. Diet is just a way you eat. Either way, is it something you can maintain? If you are a carb junky and can make better decisions to help fill you up, then there is no reason to eliminate carbs. But ultimately, it's all about calories and how you get there is personal.

ETA - if you do want to do keto, go to this group and read the launch pad. There are some things you need to ensure you do correctly (adequate sodium is one of the keys).

I play with my macros all the time... higher carbs lower carbs, higher fat lower fat... it makes zero difference to fat loss so my recommendation is don't be married to a particular 'lifestyle' Do what works for YOU and YOU will stick to long term... 20lbs is not a few weeks... it's probably going to be at least 4 months if not more... make sure you can stick with it.

A low carb or a ketogenic diet can help one lose a small bit of weight faster but usually only in those who have metabolic issues (insulin resistance). For most, the main benefit of a ketogenic diet when trying to lose weight is the usual drop in appetite and cravings. It's much easier to eat at a deficit if you are not craving carbs or are less hungry.

Reintroducing carbs should make no difference to the amount of fat on your body as long as you don't start eating more. You may regain some water weight but at the most it is usually only a couple of pounds.

I've eaten low carb for over 2 years and was keto for most of it. It really agrees with me. It cuts my appetite a LOT. For example, it's 2;30 pm and I am starting to get hungry for breakfast. I also find that carbs stimulate my cravings and those are hard to fight. For me it is best to limit carbs and avoid grains.

But I stick with keto for the health benefits. Grains and sugar are bad for my health. They taste good but they affect me in too many ways to bother with them anymore... Of course when I first thought of cutting those foods it was scary, but to be honest, thinking about giving it up was almost the hardest part.

My advice is to ensure you take 3000-5000 mg of sodium per day to replace the electrolytes you will lose on a LCHF diet. That's about 2 teaspoons of table salt per day. If you don't you may end up with headaches, fatigue, muscle and stomach issues.

And ditto the group linked earlier. Good luck!
