How come at 5'6", they have smoking hot bodies at mere 123 pounds?
Isn't 5'6" better off with around 150 lbs?
-- Just curious. How is it possible not to look sickly at 123 lbs for these celebrities?

Huh? both are healthy weights for that height... although 150 is close to being a bit "overweight". However, it really all depends on how that weight is distributed and how much is lean muscle. Two people of identical height and the same weight can look completely different.4

123 at 5'6 isn't even underweight.4

As jseams 1234 said, it depends on how the weight is distributed and how much is lean muscle. I would add that many Americans no longer recognize what is a normal weight and tolerate much higher weights than they would have in the past. They think that people who are normal weight or thin are anorexic.7

Yeah, and my sister is almost 5'6" and weighs about 116. It just depends on your body type. I am shorter, weigh more, but we wear almost the same size clothes, sometimes I wear smaller.2

The healthy weight range for someone 5'6" is 118lbs to 154lbs. Anne Hathaway has a fairly petite build, so there is no reason for 123 to be sickly or 150 to be better. Actresses tend to be on the lower side of a healthy weight anyway (if not a bit underweight) and most likely still look great thanks to chefs, nutritionists, personal trainers, makeup artists, fashion designers, lighting, professional photographers, and photo shop.6

- Both of those ladies are lovely but keep in mind that any image of them that you see will have been touched up to make it look as good as possible
- A lot of time, people look a bit heavier in pictures than in real life
- "Smoking hot" is a bit arbitrary as is the idea that one has to be around 150 at 5'6" to look good. The basis of your question is a bit weird.5 -
Reported weights for celebrities are often way, way off. They're people just like you and me, and their weight can fluctuate all the time (particularly for roles).1

I was just wondering because this is an old picture of me looking perfectly fit at 150 and I am 5'6" tall. Then I had a big bout of illness / diarrhea and lost 20 lbs (that time) and when I became 130 lbs, I looked anorexic and everyone started fearing for my well-being.

Losing weight due to extreme sickness, and losing weight due to eating calorie appropriate foods and exercising while being attended to by a staff of experts, is going to result in very different looks. Unless Ann Hathaway and Asin achieved their weight by getting sick there is really no reason to compare.5 -

Exactly. My current measurements correlate to when I was 10lbs lighter a couple of years ago simply because I'm working out in a different way right now.
You can't just look at an actor or some random person on the street and assume to know what's going on with their weight because we all carry it differently. And even within a single person how you exercise can change how you carry your weight.
And for SURE, losing weight due to illness will look much different from losing weight (or fat) due to fitness.

150 at 5"6 is not close to being overweight
I'd tend to disagree, but this is where individual build and cost/benefit analysis come in. I'm 5'4 and 1/2" and when I got up to 145 i felt like a beached whale. My quality of life improved dramatically from losing 15 lbs.
Unless one is muscular, the medical community would consider 150 at 5'6" close to overweight.2 -

Body shape matters.
The women upthread (@Joenali, @jayashreeravi1) look great at 150, but I'm better at 115-120, by far, than at 150. I was still pretty fat at 150.
Age 61 and post-mastectomies, nobody's claiming "smokin' hot" here - LOL! - but I don't think I look sickly or emaciated, either. (FWIW, the mastectomy situation only accounts for 4-5 pounds in my case.) I'm 5'5", but was 5'6" before li'l ol' lady shrinkage started happening.
Body shapes with more bust and hips can look great at 150, or even higher with some solid muscle besides. However, more narrow-hipped woman like me can still be fat at 150 . . . and I don't think I'm completely muscle-free here at 115-120, either.
Honestly, couldn't we women just get beyond critiquing (or questioning) other women's weights? What someone else weighs, or claims to weigh, just doesn't matter when we set our goals - why not just be a healthy and beautiful you?12 -

Oh my gosh, what do you mean, not smoking hot?!? You look AMAZING! You're my mom's age, and it's definitely my life goal to look this good when I reach 61. (I didn't even notice the mastectomy until you pointed it out; I get really flat-chested when I lean out too, and I just figured we were IBTC sisters. )5 -

The opposite of you, I think 115 or 120 on me would be way too skinny! But you are gorgeous!

I once measured 3 women who were 5'4", who came in for fitness assessments over a period of 2weeks.
Based on frame size and muscle mass, their estimated 25% body fat weights ranged from 108 lbs to 150lbs.
No one can judge anyone's physique based on height and weight alone.2 -
Actresses don't eat if they want to work2

@Joenali, @AllOutof_Bubblegum - Aw, you're so sweet! But I really wasn't fishing for compliments, I promise! For myself, at this stage in life, all I really want is to be healthy and physically capable for as long as possible.
My main points were (1) there are a huge range of height/weight combos that can be healthy (as reinforced by @Azdak's comment), so (2) this li'l ol' lady would like to see women support each other toward their diverse healthy goals, and set their own individual goals based on their own bodies, needs, and circumstances, rather than based on what others do.1 -

I'm 5'7" and when I'm at 150 lbs, I definitely feel like I need to lose weight (not a lot). But let me caveat that statement with the fact that I am not, and never have been, muscular at all. So when I'm at 150, I feel blubbery. I spent most of my life at 5'7" and 125 lbs. Creeped up to 135 by my 30s. That was pretty good for me.1 -

I'm 4'11" and I look and feel my best between 120 and 125. There is an 8 inch difference between us but I doubt you look sickly and I know I don't look overweight even with 125lbs being near the top of my healthy bmi.2 -
Hello all,
Very sorry I have been away on a mini-vacation and couldn't get to the computer earlier. I thank all who replied!
As to the intention why I posted about Anne or Asin is only to find out, if some experts had an idea which would be the IDEAL fat percentage the female body of about 5'6" can have...
Anne and Asin, to my eyes, are skinny, but look healthy and not at all sickly or anorexic, which I did, when I was around 125 lbs... I'm puzzled why this happened to me, but I guess I lost a lot of muscles from the diarrhea that lasted quite a while earlier.
Well, all that is old-time memory to me, though, 'cause I gained about 50+ lbs during my 2nd pregnancy and I am chubby now with a body fat % of 40. But I'm slowly and steadily working my way towards achieving a smaller fat percentage ratio and I was wondering, my earlier goal of attaining 150 lbs alone is not going to do that. I want a body like Anne and so I'm perhaps wondering what is her body fat percentage ratio!2
