As long as you stay off the rides! I stopped riding fair rides a few years ago after seeing the condition of many of the mechanical parts just from passing by.

My mom had mentioned maybe going to the Ohio State Fair next week (my brother lives in Columbus). After the accident, that's definitely not happening.

Great! Now I want some funnel cake. The one fair food I can't resist.

I went to my first state fair last year (Indiana) since my daughter earned a couple of champions in her 4-H projects that were fair eligible, and we'll be going down for her art project again this year. I generally look for a BBQ joint: pulled pork, corn bread, corn-on-the-cob, pit beans, etc. I know it's going to be a lot of calories but I won't be too far above maintenance, and I will still be hitting my macros. I love elephant ears and funnel cakes but will split them 3 ways with my kids, so it's just 250 calories or so.

The real struggle is with the county fair, where we have rabbits in the show barn all week and have to be there every day for just over a week, not to mention all the frantic preparation leading up to it that encourages lax eating habits. (ie, harvesting about 20 lbs of fresh vegetables for her garden exhibits, throwing everything we didn't take into the garage fridge, and eating hot dogs as we got the beautiful produce entered into the competition, where it will then will on a table for a week. :o ) On show day, I pack a cooler with healthy foods; on other days, I just try to keep it under control and make sure I do a lot of walking and am disciplined at breakfast and lunch. I am in maintenance and have a high TDEE so have a lot of wiggle room...it would have been a lot more difficult when I was actively losing, but still, it's once a year.

Another of my favorite "healthier" foods is a Hobo Potato, which is mashed potatoes covered with sauteed peppers and onions and grilled chicken, topped with a little ranch and a lot of hot sauce.

Anyways, fair food is delicious, and I hope everyone has a blast at their respective state fairs!
