Hi MFP Friends,
I need some motivation to start all over again. Dammit!! I was in FABULOUS shape and let it all go! After working out and eating right in 2012/2013, I sculpted a tight body.
I can't believe I let that go. I am so upset with myself. My body is mushy now and my stomach isn't flat anymore but it protrudes out and I have rolls. I never had that before. I can suck it in but it is so bad that I don't even want the sucked in stomach. I was at the point where without doing anything my abs were starting to show.
To make matters worse, I FEEL uncomfortable in my skin. To makes matters even worse than that, I am going to the river this weekend and I had to buy a new bathing suit in a larger size. I was a size 6 and I just bought a size 12 bathing suit. I have to face the fact that I am going to look terrible. UGGHH!!!
I've gained 30 Lbs back. I am a short 5'2" Woman so the weight is very visible on my body. I am now one of those chubby chicks who isn't ugly but would look good if she lost weight. My pics from a few years ago are showing up on FB and I'm jealous of myself. Stupid.
I was a runner and also did Jillian Michaels videos before. I used to wake up early and do a 30 min workout then after work run a few times a week plus log meals. Now I sleep in and when I come home I pop open a beer and listen to music while I cook Mexican Food.
Since I know how to lose weight and get in shape, all I need is the motivation. My goal is to lose 10ish by Xmas and another 10ish by March. 20 Lbs at least by March. I've got a trip to Venice, Italy in March and our yearly river trip in Summer. Hoping 2018 doesn't eat my 2017 self.
I am going to go on a run tonight. I've logged everything so far today.
Please friend me.

I am in the same situation as you are. I lost over 100 pounds, had some health issues and have put it all back on. So now I start over. I found your post inspiring. You sound as if you are well on your way. You know what you are doing, (you've done it before) you have goals set and something to look forward to. YOU CAN DO THIS!!2
-
So did you give up exercise/running while you gained all that weight back? That may be your answer right there. This time around once you hit your goals don't stop the exercise and the healthier choices.3
-
Me too. 5'1", lost wt in 2013, managed to gain most of it back. On round 2 I guess. Maintaining it for me is more difficult that losing...seems to me like as long as there was a goal, motivation was easier. Once I got there, i started letting go. Oh well, time to restart1

I'm glad I inspired you!! Thank you for believing in me. It's so ridiculous that it is this hard to start over.0 -

YUP. Gave up the regular exercise/running and logging my meals. I maintained for a while but I let go. The crazy thing was when I hit goal it scared me. I knew it would be a problem.0 -

Maintenance is a killer. We have to do this for ourselves. It is too priceless to feel good on the inside.1 -
Added you. You can do this! We are in the same boat- I was at my happy weight last year, but slowly stopped logging over the winter and the weight crept right back on! My breaking point was this weekend, when I realized it wasn't just a bad picture or clothes that stayed too long in the dryer... I'm up 15 pounds. I'm also fairly short, 5'3", and it definitely does show when you're not tall. Done it before and we can do it again, though!0
-
Maintenance is the hardest part. My advice would be to really think about why you stopped what you were doing. Was it just too much to do long term? Knowing the why may be the key to preventing it happening again.3

No, I think about what the reason is. I always go back to having a full time job and 3 kids I need to get to school, sports, cooking, cleaning, etc. Yes, that is A LOT of responsibility and it is very very time consuming. BUT I can and have woken up early. I can and do have the hour a day to go on that run. I can and do have time to log my meals. I really have no excuses.4 -
With you. Lost 45 lbs and after starting a new job and having our third child (ha! I gain almost as much weight as my wife did) I'm back to where I was in 2013 You can do it! So can I0

I hit my original goal a little over a year ago. What helped me stay on track was setting new goals. They weren't weight related, more muscle/fitness related. I kept logging (still am) and stayed at maintenance in recomp for a long time (a bit over a year). I just started a cut for August, then will go back to maintenance in September and October and will likely give myself a couple hundred extra calories for a slow bulk again over the winter. I started last November at Thanksgiving doing just that, weighed in at 178. I'm at 190 now but still in the normal BMI range. So now I will try and get closer to 180 again before November. You can do this, just don't stop setting goals, no matter what they are. It'll help motivate you.1 -

Thank you!! Yes, that is what lead to my failure. I didn't have a goal. I actually started because I was getting married Summer 13 and didn't want to be a fat bride. I am proud to say I killed that goal 1000%. I looked awesome. Then I didn't have anything as significant other than our regular vacations. I used that as my goals but it wasn't a high enough goal. I am the type of person who constantly needs something bigger and better to look forward too. In everything I do. Sold my house because I wanted a better one. Left jobs because I wanted a better
one. Luckily I have been successful in those endeavors but it is kind of a risky and stressful lifestyle
Sometimes I think I need to just calm down, relax, and take life in stride.1 -
I fell overboard around the same time as you although as opposed to losing weight I had gained weight and reached peak fitness and very low body fat. I too have to look at my old pictures from 2013. That is one of them there next to this post.
I gained around 28 pounds after I quit the gym and went into an anti depressant. Larger than I had ever been in my life. I then went the other way and slipped back into my old obsession with being thin and light and dropped to 125 pounds. It isn't a great look on my 5'9 athletic frame. Now I am back to try and get my fitness back up there and eliminate my scale obsession again.
I certainly relate in that sense. We just came from different angles. I am sure you can get back to where you were. Just follow your old plan and scale that mountain again.0 -

Thank you Dear!! I was also obsessed too and suffer from depressed moods. I make everything so hard when it doesn't have to be.1 -
I lost down to 125 last year in 2016 and gained it all back during the fall/winter months due to stress and other stuff going on. So don't feel bad! At least you didn't gain it all back within the same year that you lost it. I'm hoping to get it off again and keep it off.2

Your motivation is that You're now a size 12 instead of 6. You know how to do it, so do it. My before pics keep me motivated in maintenance.2

@perkymommy It feels good to know I'm not alone. I have felt so alone and isolated. we can do this!!
@lorrpb I never thought of it that way but you are correct!! I can look forward to my clothes not fitting as tight. It's actually to the point where I don't have as many outfits because a lot doesn't fit. I can't go out and buy a new wardrobe!! I need to be responsible for the sake of my family.1 -
I hear you there. I was a skinny kid at first but than I began to have problems with being overweight. I lost a lot of weight in 2008-09 due to a lot of swimming and walking. I was almost to being the right weight and was feeling gorgeous. I used to hate having my picture taken, but when I lost all that weight you couldn't get me away from the front of the camera. Well I started taking medication for some health problems and it was all down hill from there. I am now at my largest 209ish and hate getting my picture taken again. I prefer to be behind the camera (I am a fine art photographer.) I also gained weight because my physical health conditions got worse so I have been a bit sedentary. I want to lose about 90 pounds so I can be at a healthy weight. Also losing weight would help relieve some of the symptoms. I will add you as a friend.1

2014 I was in the best shape of my life and felt really good about myself. I was a bit to confident with my health. I swapped jobs from a really active job to something that was not physical at all at the end of 2015. I put on quite a lot. I'm embarrassed how out of hand it is but I'm so determined and dedicated to get back in shape and healthy.1

None of you have mentioned your age, but by your pics, you all look fairly young. You think it's hard now? HA! wait till you hit 50 or 60! I hate to be "Debbie Downer" but its right around the corner! Even from the age of 60 to 68, which I am now, what a difference! I was in much better shape at 60, but over those eight years I gained about 60 or 70 pounds and don't have near the strength I did. So this past January I couldn't stand the way I felt anymore and my mind set changed and I decided to do something about it. I am very close (within a couple pounds) of the first 50 pound goal and then it's off to "one-derland"! only 30 pounds away! Yes, kids, housework, work blah blah and blah is all stressful, but it needs to be done. BUT its just an excuse. YOU have to take care of you, no one else will. Ask for a little help from those around you. Where there's a will, there's a way. Good luck.2

Same here. Weighed myself this morning and was devastated to see I'm 9lbs away from being back to my all time heaviest. So annoyed with myself that after all that hard work losing weight it's almost all been put back on... but no point being negative, it is what it is, and now today is my first day of my new weight loss journey and I'm feeling positive. I've used MFP in the past and a Fitbit too, there's been so much bad press lately about fitness trackers and diet apps but these have really helped me in the past, they open your eyes for sure. Good luck to everyone on their weight loss journey and feel free to friend me1

Hi. You said "all I need is motivation." Hmm. I said the exact same thing to myself after gaining back 29.5 pounds of the 45 pounds that I lost (slowly) a few years, ago. But the motivation wasn't happening. Finally, I realized that I need to work at getting healthy withOUT any motivation. Just like I do my job, or anything else that I need to do, even if I don't feel motivated. This is my health! So far, so good. 4 and a half pounds off. "Only" 25 to go to get back to my healthy, feel good, clothes fit nicely weight. I'd love to hear others' comments to this idea - losing weight without motivation!!3

Recently my teenage son and myself have been visiting with a therapist for some depression and anxiety issues. It has been very enlightening. This idea of "motivation" came up. I thought his response was pretty dead on. Motivation is an illusion so to speak it is not something you are just going to wake up and have it only comes once you get started. It is momentum not motivation that is needed. So the idea that we will ever be motivated to start the changes we need or waiting around for that is what keeps us stagnant. Mindfully starting gives us the momentum we need to establish new routine or habits. It is going to be hard to start, think of the physical exertion required to push a boulder the hardest part is the very beginning.... Then it builds momentum. It makes a lot of sense to me. If I gear myself up for the "battle" of just beginning, then I seem to find the strength to keep pushing forward. Not always enjoyable but definitely able to find the strength to keep pushing forward. Then when you stop you have to find that strength to start the momentum up again.
I know we can do it. Finding that strength is always easier when others are there cheering you on.8 -
It happens to a lot of people. Even me. I lost 50lbs back in 2011. I was running, eating really good and felt awesome at 145. Today I weigh in at 162 and don't really feel that great. But it's hard to keep up a lifestyle that you don't always like. And it's easy to fall back into bad habits, even when you think they are behind you. They have a tendancy of sneaking back.
For me, it's mental. Doing the work isn't hard when my head is in the game. It's actually pretty easy. But you let your guard down for a week or so, things can go terrible wrong.
My advice. Get past it and get back in the game. You know what to do. You just have to do it...1 -
@millea84 The best part of exercising and eating right is not the weight loss, but the way it makes us FEEL! Not to mention the health benefits you talk about. You can do this! Do it for you!!
@dillydaisys I hear you. I was the person who was fit and it shape. Everyone talked about it. Now nobody says crap (well not to my face). Thank goodness I brought it up to my family. I told them I'm overweight again and need to lose. They probably feel a load off. My nail lady told me once that I was getting big. Lol That was 2 months ago. I still looked the other way since then. Its time to turn it around!
@Rubysue17 I am 37 now. My mid section has never been this bloated. I thought it might be my age but that's an excuse in my eyes. No excuses as far as I'm concerned! In fact, my 66 year old Mother is very careful with her portions and does hardly any exercise. She has been smaller than me since I can remember including right now. She is responsible with her intake and it works. Even at her age.
@StarLady82 I'm 9Lbs form my heaviest too!! I need to get back over the single digits of weight loss. I'm not giving myself crazy expectations. 15 Lbs by Xmas and another 5 by March. 20 Lbs in 8 months is not impossible. We go this!
@waltzingmom I think I lose that motivation because part of the time I'm bored at my desk job. Boredom drives me crazy and actually makes me tired. Oddly enough when I'm busier, I am more motivated. What is it?!! I can try and talk to my employer about possibly adding work perhaps.
@jbirdy76 Makes perfect sense! I was like a train full speed ahead with motivation when I was in great shape. I think it was the remnants of the exercise and weight training like they say. I was still exerting energy even though I wasn't actually training. I had runners high as well. The feeling is like nothing we can get anywhere.
@kristen8000 It is no doubt mental. Some people are better equipped mentally than others. My buddy is paralyzed and can't walk. It's been 12 years since his accident and he's been severely depressed. He has changed his mindset so much in the last 6 months. It is amazing to watch. He's all of a sudden more positive and just this past weekend he got in our pool for the first time in 12 years! I told myself, if he can do it, Why the heck can't I??

My highest weight was 250. I got down to 179 a few years ago but I've gained all that weight back. But I also was basically starving myself, eating less than 800 calories and exercising twice a day until I burned a thousand calories each time. I ain't got time nor the energy for that anymore. Right now I'm 230. I have boughts of depression where I just feel everything is hopeless and there's no point to me working out. It's so hard for me to find motivation. I would like to get to 170 but I feel like it's gonna such a goal to reach.0
-
Hi all. I'm one too....lost 11kg and put it all back on. I am 5'1 and weight seems to all go round middle0
-
@ashleydftns Don't get so down on yourself!! We overthink too much sometimes. Believe me, I am all the way up to where I was before. I look terrible and feel terrible in my skin. However, I know what to do to fix it. It isn't that hard to do. It's just calories in vs out. What worked for me in the past was logging my meals and never skipping breakfast. This time around I am going to try and do morning workouts as well. The only reason I work out is to gain extra calories and also strengthen my endurance. I don't want to be fatigued and depressed. Exercise really helps with that! And it's free!
@sunabove This time around my mid section really got most of it. This hasn't been the case in the past. I am horrified! The only thing I can do is not give up! We can do this!0
