Up & down

I can stay under my calorie goal all week and still see swings in my weight up and down. Got very discouraged to see the few lost pounds go back up on the scale while staying under my calorie goal.

Thoughts?

Weight fluctuates. Get used to it - there's nothing you can or should do about it.

Get used to the normal body fluctuations...poop, sodium, water, hormones.

A high sodium meal will make you retain water. Heavy exercise will make you retain water. High fiber will make you retain water. Not drinking enough will make you retain water. TOM will make you retain water. Not sleeping enough can make you retain water.

Look at the long term trends, not the short term.

If you've got a scale at home, try weighing yourself multiple times during the day. My weight often ranges 2-3 lbs depending on the time of day, and that's not even taking into account stuff that can cause bigger fluctuations. I never noticed this stuff before because I never used to weigh myself regularly, but it's kind of fascinating.

You may a good candidate to use a weight trending app, such as Libra for Android, Happy Scale for iOS, or Trendweight. They're not magic, just statistics ;) , but some people find them a reassurance that they're on the desired trend despite daily fluctuations.

I second this idea. Once you learn that weight fluctuations are normal and you use an app like this you will not be easily discouraged when you still see a downward trend.

I actually did this today just to see what would happen. Lowest weight was 202.4 and highest was 204. No exercise today, 200 over calorie goal and I drank about 105 oz of water.

The ups and downs happen. If you can't deal with the upswings, my advice is to weigh yourself less frequently.
