9/29 Walked 1 mile, ran 1.5, walked 1.2
9/30 Walked 1 mile, ran 2, walked 2
Ended the month with 2 really tough runs. Felt like I hit a wall and suddenly instead of getting easier it got harder. I know it happens so I'm not giving up!
23.66 miles of my 30 mile run goal. Walked 46 miles. I had one bad week where I missed 2 or 3 days? So I missed a few miles there.2 -
Finished the month at 110 of my 100 mile goal so I’m happy. Decided to take another rest day today, not because I needed it but I slept in and then went to watch my bestie’s son play football. He’s 10 and it’s not too often that we have off a Saturday from XC and I get to watch him play. Then Skip and I spent the day doing mommy daughter stuff.
@HonuNui I just loved reading about Steve. What a special young man. Skip’s injury is weird, she is still really hurting, thanks for asking.
@JessicaMcB I love your daughter. It’s so wonderful to hear the innocent and sweet way they see things.
@ACJones82 awesome!
Woohoo @BruinsGal_91 great job on the race and first place AG!! Awful weather!
Great job everyone who made goal this month. If you didn’t you’ll get it next month. For those hurt, get well soon!!!

September wasn't good for me especially this last week had to work late. September - total run 37.5km walk 65.50 km. I guess it's better than doing non at all. You all inspire me to keep running. I'll never get to the mileage you all do but it gives me hope. 2 years ago I wouldn't even have had the courage to run. This is my progress since 2015.

Tanning? Are you in the southern hemisphere then?
Lol! Close...and because of our crazy weather, I end up with a better tan for Christmas than I have in August. Cooler temps mean less treadmill running for me! Yay! But it'll still be in the 70s and 80s for awhile.1 -
10/1/17 Wineglass Half Marathon, 13.1 miles, 2:17:13
You guys, what a day. We had a lovely day on Saturday at the race expo and pasta dinner. The guy who is race director for the Boston Marathon, Dave McGillverey, was the speaker and it was a pretty inspiring program. We also sat with some super interesting people, including a guy who had done 64 marathons (he thought) and a woman who ran the last 5 miles or so of a marathon in just her socks because her new shoes were giving her blisters. She'd also done like 29 marathons.
I slept pretty poorly and was still suffering from my cold a bit, and the alarm came so early. It was COLD at the start, at only about 35 degrees F. We had to bus to the start and it was quite a bit of logistics and standing in the cold. I had decided to do the 2:15 finish pace group, which was pretty nerve-wracking as I've never run with a pacer and didn't know if I could hang with that pace. Well, even before I had a chance to find out, things took a bit of wrong turn when I tripped over an unseen cone in the road in the massive swarm of people moving toward the starting line. Before I even got to the start! I fell hard, because I totally didn't see it coming, and bruised and scraped both knees and hit my right hip and ribs as well (I think my arm was trapped against my ribs). I was too startled to find myself on the ground to do much more than jump back up and try to get going (and not get run over). A few people asked if I was okay and I just said yes, because I didn't want to think about the alternative.
So, I just went! I tried not to look too much at my knees and just let the adrenaline of the start kind of carry me through. It didn't seem so bad, so I felt like I could at least finish, if not manage my hoped-for PR. I didn't want to talk myself into letting that goal go already though so I kept the pacer in sight and concentrated on one foot in front of the other.
Things went pretty well for about the first 7-8 miles, and I was consistently about the same distance behind the pacer, and the time was actually a little ahead of pace, so I was pleased. Then I started feeling tired and it was getting hard to keep up. My pace was slipping and I started to lose the pace group. But I knew I was still ahead of the 2:20 group so I kept trying to at least push it a little more and not give up completely. Miles 10 and 11 were tough, and my slowest paces. When I got to the 12 mile mark I gave myself a final kick in the figurative pants (no energy for actual kicking, and knees to sore). I managed to get the last mile back down and even sprint for the end. That finish line kept moving away from me, I swear, but finally I crossed and my watch was saying about 2:17, although I didn't see the race clock well enough to know how accurate that was but I hoped it was close. The official time ended up being 2:17:13, which was a 3-minute PR for me. I was very happy but of course wonder if I hadn't thrown myself on the ground to start how much better I could have done. Seriously very excited though.
As soon as I stopped, I got feeling back in my knees and they were screaming. My hip and ribs also. I got some water and chocolate milk and then kept moving so I wouldn't freeze up. I went back to the finish line and watched for my friend to finish. She also got a new PR and was super excited. When she saw my knees she was horrified but thought it was pretty badass. We got some food and then I went to the medical tent to get cleaned up. They were so nice there! They weren't busy because I think the cool weather was working in their favor. But while I was in there, the first female finisher for the marathon came in and she looked like she was going to collapse. She was okay, but wow what effort she must have put in.
In good news, I didn't think about my cold at all during this run It was long drive home and I was happy to get cleaned up and now am resting and icing. Tomorrow is going to be a challenge.

Goal for the month 55 miles with a half scheduled at the end of the month. I am trying a "rest my legs" strategy in which a run a short distance and long distance in a week with lots of rest in between (filled with working at a job, sleeping, etc.)
9/1....9 miles... In zone all but 9 minutes. 13 minute/mile.
9/4...4 miles ...in zone all but 1 minute. 12:45 minute miles.
9/11...12 miles....focusing on running more at race pace....goal was to run under 14 minute miles. I haven't run this far in a while....noted that this felt easier than I expected especially the first 10 miles. Pace was 13:10 per mile on the average. My last half marathon was at the 12:38 pace ( in May). In zone only 24 minutes. My main goal was to stay relaxed. Hamstrings felt tight the next morning.
9/14...5 miles.....really not feeling like running at all....goal was to stay relaxed and to run at comfortable pace without focusing on zone running. pace was 12:48....in the zone 31 minutes.
9/17...5 miles.... in zone 24 minutes...pace was 12:24. Lungs felt great....head was into it....not as leg weary today.
9/22....5 miles ...in zone 33 minutes pace was 13:48.
9/25...9 miles....in zone 22 minutes. Pace was 13:53. Some cramping, but not bad. No soreness the next day.
9/27...4 miles.
9/39...13.1 miles
total....63.1 miles.
goal....55 miles.
Short race report....9/30... I slept very little the night before, 1 hour and lots of tossing and turning. After eating breakfast, I drove downtown to park. I wasn't familiar with the parking rules and finally found a garage to park in, amongst road construction. I looked at my watch. It was 7:15 and the race started at 7:30. I was probably a mile away and ran to the start of the race. It was starting as I got there and ran approximately 4 rows behind the 3:00 pacer to begin the race. I started fast, running about 12 minute miles which was my strategy, and should have pr'd this race if I kept it up. Around mile 7, I noticed that I was about 6 minutes ahead of the 2:45 pacer and almost caught up to the 2:30 pacer at mile 9. Then I started getting a little headache. By mile 10, it was a pounding headache. I ate some sports beans, which only made me thirstier. By mile 11, I started walking part of it. By that time the 2:45 pacer passed me and I couldn't catch her after that. I finished at 2:51:33. Very sore and very thirsty. I downed a bottle of water after I finished. Then I lost the car....couldn't find it for almost an hour. I saw a familiar landmark and located the car.
During my search for the car, I was stopped by some women who wanted to take a picture of me for their scavenger hunt, and couldn't believe that I ran a half marathon. It put things into perspective for me. Although I wasn't happy with my time, I was thrilled with my effort....I gave 100% and have the super sore quadriceps to prove it. I have never had a headache while running....so strange...maybe I was dehydrated before the race. Maybe I need to practice drinking water when training.
And, I did meet my running goal for the month.

So I had my first 5k on Saturday. I'm typing about it here because, well it was in September. I am glad that it was a fun race with friends. I am SOOOOO slow. finished in 42 minutes because I had to walk a bit. It got hot really fast and was about 85 at 9 am. And I wore black. But it was a PR, since it was my first. I have another in 3 weeks to beat that time and keep working on that.
Well maybe. I am having some left hamstring pain. I can't seem to stretch or ice or rub enough. Going to take it easy this week and see. This is the same leg that I had heel and calf issues a few months ago. But then I also started in with lifting again this month. I am wondering if I tweaked it. Grrrr.7 -
@seanevan10 Congratulations on running your first 5k race
I hope your hamstring pain goes away quickly!
--
I didn't get to look in here in the last couple of days, since I had a visitor. Now I finally looked at my monthly total:
117km of my 150km goal *sigh*
It's really frustrating how many days I couldn't run after falling and hurting my knee, and how short my runs where after starting back. But at least it wasn't an injury that sidelined me for longer; so I'm optimistic that October will be better!1 -
I'm late to the party as usual. 29 miles in September, didn't set a goal for the month other than to keep on going with C25K. I'm in week 9 of the program and struggling to do the full 30 minutes without stopping. I need to slow down i think.1

We've all moved over to the October thread, located here -->

A post-September wrap-up for me. Didn't make my goal, but I'm claiming the hurricane exemption. Weekend place is still flooded, and likely will be until Thanksgiving. Two kids in college, with trips to visit them. I can run there, but not every day. October started slow, but I'm hopeful to get back above 40 miles.
