Help with chip addiction

I LOVE chips of all kinds, Potato chips, Doritos, Cheetos, etc. bit am trying to find alternatives for when those cravings hit.
What do you eat instead of chips when you are craving that crunchy, salty goodness?

Just eat some when you want. If you deny yourself something completely it's going to make this much harder. Work on portion control.0

Over time I have noticed that bad eating habits have dropped off as I have pursued good habits.
Maybe anticipate times/circumstances where you will tend to indulge, and make sure you are doing/eating SOMETHING ELSE!
Agree with above poster that eating a little is certainly fine, over-indulging is not fine.0 -
My favorite chip substitute lately: Carrots with hummus. Carrots give the crunch, hummus gives the salty/savory (and the flavor variation). The carrots take longer to chew and you feel FULL before you can over eat. If you DO overeat, you've over eaten on something with nutritional value, so it's the lesser of two evils.0

Have you tried eating some pretzels? They can be salty, and the tiny hard card aren't too terrible for you (if I'm reading the labels correctly).0

I love popcorn! I buy the big bags of kernels and pop them in the microwave in a micropopper but I know some people just pop it in paper bags.0

Air popped popcorn isn't a bad option. No fat, 31c per cup. You can sprinkle some salt or other seasoning on it. I usually have a good sized bowl 2-3x a week.0

My absolute favorite crunchy/salty snack are Special K popcorn chips in the sea salt flavor. 30 chips for only 130 calories. I eat them almost every day! Also good are their cracker chips in the honey barbeque flavor0

chips were a big thing for me. if i'm craving chips, i go for rico's cheddar cheese popcorn. still not great for you, but it's at least air popped and cheesy/salty. perfect replacement for sour cream and cheese chips for me.0

Trader Joe's Inner Peas are so good... as someone mentioned prior about pretzels, try some pretzel thins with hummus. So good! And kale chips, lastly, are delicious and don't even taste like kale if prepared properly0

Popcorn or veggies with hummus, it's the crunch that you're addicted to. Both of these options can be very healthy and a great snack!!!0

Cabbage with Spike or Lemon Pepper seasoning.
You have to get it wet first so the seasoning will stick.
Also popcorn but limit the butter.0 -

I made kale chips once. It was a lot of work, and they weren't great. I'll never do it again! I agree that air popped popcorn is good. I spray it with zero calorie cooking spray and shake on seasoning salt and Tabasco sauce. Yum!0

KALE CHIPS!!!!! SOOOO GOOOD!! put popcorn seasoning on them. Just be careful baking them. Well worth them, though. :laugh:0

I myself use Josephs flax and oat bran wraps. They are in Wally worlds deli department. Entire sheet is 100 cals. serving size for a sandwich is half BUT--when I have to have a crunch, I cut them in bite size pieces spray both sides with olive oil spray, alittle celery salt and toast them in the oven on both sides. They are wonderful "PITA" like chips then and are great with some guac or hummus. OR sneeking into the movie for a low cal treat.0

Popped Crisps, Pop Chips, Baked Potato chips and air popped popcorn with parkay spray fake butter crap (tastes pretty good actually). I really missed chips when I first started, and ate these a lot. But as I go along, even these lower cal options don't seem worth it and I find myself eating them less and less.0

I have found that Brad's Raw Kale Chips, the Nacho flavor, are really excellent. I was truly surprised, because I am not a big veggie fan.0

I struggle with this a lot as well! I eat snack size bas with lunch because my colleagues bring them in, so when I indulge at work, I throw away my apple (LOL) and slowly eat the bag to enjoy it! I can't have them in the house or I will eat them until they are gone. I also make baked Yukon gold potatoes until the skin is crispy and eat with fat free sour cream. I also make baked sweet potato fries. These help fill that craving but are better for you, more filling, and less likely to over eat. I also cut up a cucumber and put balsamic vinegar on it. I also eat roasted zucchini slices with parmesan cheese crisped on top. All these things help. Not having them in the house and eating a full meal before I get too hungry helps a lot too (if I wait too long to make dinner or try to have a snack to hold me over, I will reach for quick fixes like chips and crave them more). Hope some of these ideas help!0

I have a crispy, crunchy, salty passion too. I eat corn or rice thins (I don't know where you are located, but in Australia there are Balsamic and Sea Salt rice cakes which are the BOMB!), popcorn with some sea salt etc. Sometimes I eat raw veggies like celery or carrot with nut butter, but find I need the popcorny/rice cakey texture to really hit the craving.
ETA: I haven't tried the pop chips yet, but they are meant to be great, so maybe swap the normal ones out for these. Just stick to portion sizes.0 -
Popcorn is a great alternative, but eat Chips if you are really craving for it but in small portion. I found a great way to limit my portion, it is to bring a small/medium pack to the office or any gathering with LOTS of friends and colleagues to help you finish a pack.0
