Is it necessary to eat every 2 or 3 hours?

It has nothing to do with optimizing digestion or extra calorie burn or whatever, it's just what keeps me full and under calories for the day. The human digestive system is actually pretty awesome - sure, it can get thrown off by all sorts of things, but it can also adapt to all sorts of things.
Don't be embarrassed - it's what works for you.
Now - you come out spouting advice that it's required for weight loss, with no comment or background as to why it actually works for you better - then prepared to be slammed by many.
Oh for sure, I would never suggest anyone do anything other than what works best for them to keep a deficit. It more comes up when people ask how I've lost weight, which has been happening increasingly often now that I'm down 25+ lbs. If I mention eating frequently I've often gotten this knowing sort of "Ah yes, I heard that boosts the metabolism blah blah" and then I have to make the awkward choice of either addressing the misconception or letting it slide.2 -

Perhaps she is talking about you specifically getting that problem, because that's not true at all in general.
I don't eat all day until 8-11 pm after exercise - no gas or bloating for me.
Unless I eat a carb heavy or only meal or snack. Then yes.
I do have a little problem with carbs, or rather my insulin response does - eating every 2-3 hrs would be a great way for me to be in a tired state all day long, I'll say that.
You might look up the degrees they have, and if recent.
Ok thnks...each every nutritionist says to eat every 2 hours.
Um. No.
I see one of the top sports med dietitians in the U.S., and that "advice" has never come out of her mouth.
So maybe you're seeing quacks, but that's certainly not "every" nutritionist.
Protip: Stick to the dietitians and not the nutritionists. Anyone can call himself/herself a nutritionist.2 -
If exercise can be equal to increased mobility then there can be advantages because you are improving circulation posture and other functions particularly if weight loss is not your only goal, if you are wanting a more healthy life style for example.
The essential thing for us all to take into consideration, doing what is right and works for you to achieve your personal goal. Listening to others hearing what they have to say then adopting something you like because you think it may work for you is good, changing what you do is also good if it fails to make a difference over time.0 -

How do YOU feel if you eat fewer times a day? That's all that counts. Everyone needs to find their sweet spot for how often they eat and what their diet consists of. Beware of anyone telling you universal truths about what or when to eat - there are no universal truths.8 -
I personally eat every 2-3 hours all day just because that's the best way to keep myself full throughout the day and not over eat during more spread out mealtimes.0

Nope.
I do, but only because I am diabetic and that helps keep my blood sugar more level. I also am more likely to binge if I get too hungry.4 -

Losing weight isn't about doing this workout or that workout...losing weight is about consuming fewer calories than you are expending regardless of exercise. Regular exercise has the added benefit of increasing your expenditure to some degree, but unless you're training like an athlete, it's rather negligible relative to the calories you burn existing and then going about your day to day...7 -
I tend to eat every 3 hours or so because I am hungry and because it keeps my blood sugar levels on an even keel. Everyone is different, talk to a nutritionist.2

Is this "nutritionist" part of a weight loss clinic/program you have entered?
My spidey sense is tingling...3 -
I eat every 2 hours or so, but only to prevent getting overly hungry. Nothing to do with gas or bloating.1

No they do not. When my food allergies were first found out I worked with a dietician and met with a nutritionist. Neither told me to eat every 2 hours.

I like eating little and often. I tend to eat at 10.30, 1.30, 4, 7, and sometimes a snack at 10. But if I'm really hungry in between or not hungry, I listen to my body.0

Yes
Are they charging you a small fortune for this advice? Selling you special food and/or supplements?4 -
I have been eating one or two meals a day for years. I must be floating around in the air.4

That's exactly what I thought.
These people are taking advantage of you. DON'T PUT ONE MORE PENNY INTO THEIR POCKETS!
All you need to lose weight successfully is a kitchen scale. They cost less than $20. That's it.
Enter your stats into the MFP calculator. Weigh and measure everything that goes in your mouth. Stick to a modest calorie deficit and you will lose weight.
We want you to succeed and none of us have a monetary stake in it.
I've lost over a hundred pounds and I'm not the only one. Go read some of the success stories-- There are people here who have completely transformed their lives. Ask questions when you need guidance and know that you will receive honest, direct answers. Some people view this as "mean." It's not.
I wish you the absolute best. You can add me if you like.3 -
I believe that someone already stated this, so I will jump on that thought process....
Find out what works best for you and do that. And, you might find that your goals might change the way you eat (read: the number of times a day you eat).
I eat six or seven times a day - at the moment - and kinda/sorta do Intermittent Fasting (in that I usually eat while in the office.....so, a very very very lax Intermittent Fasting). I also do Flexible Dieting. It is simply structured flexibility! I can not claim that definition. But, I like it so I use it.
Have you played around with different ways of eating? And, you likely should be sticking with the "method of the month" for at least eight to 10 weeks or so.....just to give your body a fair chance to adjust to the different way.
No one can tell you what the best way for you to do anything is (well, you understand the context of that statement). All I can do is share with you some concepts and tell you what has worked for me and what has not worked for me. You are a totally different human being so what works for ME | does not work for ME is absolutely irrelevant information for YOU! Now, what I did try is relevant....just the results are not.
