I have the more basic Garmin Forerunner 25. I'll probably upgrade eventually, but at the moment it does everything I need. I love Garmin products. My ancient Forerunner 205 died fairly recently, but I saw a guy at this weekend's race who was wearing one, so they do last forever.

I got 7 years out of my Edge. I'm sure it still works now.

Broke the glass on my first VAHR. Wore it doing some renovations. Onto my second one.

    Thank @anvilhead for the insight.

Ive owned a few Garmin products and have never had a problem with their hardware - their stuff is generally very well built. I have a GPS60cs that's around 12 years old and still going strong, and it's lived a pretty rough life on dirt bikes, mountain bikes and UTVs.

My only beef is with their software. It sometimes takes them several iterations to work out all the bugs (and fix the things they break along the way). But on the plus side, they're generally pretty quick to address issues and come out with updates when they break things.

Slight OT aside. Just Googled the 101, man that was a beast! Shows how far we've come with the technology.

I have the Forerunner 201; I started using it again last September when I picked up running again. I used it up until June when I replaced it with the Vivoactive. And yes it is huge, the Vivoactive is a little baby compared to the 201. But it was state of the art back in 2003 when I bought it. And obviously it has lasted, unlike cheap Fitbits which fall apart within a year.

I have a FR405, so yes I have had problems with their hardware

It wasn't the bezel that everyone else had issues with though, it would freeze and require hard resets constantly when it was about a year old

I have the 230 (the non optical heart rate sensor) but the watch is essentially the same. I have a seperate heart rate strap i use if and when i need it.

I highly recommend this watch for it's functionality and style. :)

I really don't understand how that's acceptable. And there are so many threads "my Fitbit broke I'm gonna buy another one."

Or, I love my Fitbit and it has broken twice in the year I've had it but Fitbit customer service is great and replaced them both. There's a problem when they so readily and freely replace so many devices. That's knowing your product is shoddy and not bothering to improve the quality.

I agree with this. I love my FitBit, and it has been my partner for a relatively long time. I even was able to tolerate some innacuracies in distance and pace, but the device (I have the Blaze) has essentially stopped syncing with my phone's GPS (yet another burden to use your phone GPS to run). My phone is relatively new, and FitBit customer service essentially told me, well, we just had an update and your phone is not listed as compatible, so tough love. Hopefully the Ionic will be better, but I have my doubts.

I have it and love it. I'm starting to use the HR info to pace myself during races and have been running some of my best times so far. I do find the HR monitor to be a little choppy some times. But most of the times it works wonderfully.

To clarify I don't or have ever, had a Fitbit. I was being somewhat sarcastic to illustrate why I will never give them my money. I've had my current Garmin since December 2015 and not one single issue.
