Dropped alcohol addiction. Joining Keto

I was a 2 bottles of Chardonnay a night person who quit cold turkey after 7 years of drinking. I finally have the motivation I always wanted but never could due to the stress of alcohol. Gained several pounds thru late night drunken binge eating and I want my old body back! And energy. I hope keto is the answer

I am a wine lover too! We had wine everynight, but could not contain it to just one or 2 glasses- I'll have the whole bottle please. I did not get drunk so to speak (which should have been a clue to my tolerance and overuse) but drank everyday. The problem was, that when I drank wine, the self control of food choices went out the window. I cooked heavy comfort foods, and sadly, didn't even remember tasting them the next morning. I don't know what happened to have the lightbulb go off, but I woke up one day and realized that food and alcohol were controlling me, not the other way around. I took a good look in the mirror and saw 30 extra pounds and I did not like the person in the reflection. From that moment I decided to change. There are certain foods that are triggers for me, and wine is #1! So, no more wine, and clean eating until I feel back in control again. This time though, I am aiming for a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. I am a diet queen. I have tried every one on the market, succeeded at some, failed others. I loved Paleo, but I found after 6 months on it, losing 20 lbs, I just couldn't keep up with the food prep- it takes a lot of time to prep for paleo if you want to have things like "bread", "pasta" etc. I felt deprived. Back to old habits and boom, the weight is back on. I have done keto, and it does work, but it is a quick fix that is difficult to keep up.That is not saying it wont work for you! I am just eating "clean", journaling EVERYTHING and not depriving myself of any food ( with the exception of wine right now). I will work in an occasional splurge but be in much better control. Good luck with your new lifestyle- would love to know how it works for you! Everyone is different but we all have the same goals- health and happiness.
  • I'm trying to kick a wine addiction also. I'm on day 3. I would drink the big bottle of either Sutter Homes chardonnay or Pinot Grigio every night and feel horrible the next day. I'm tired of tasting that metal, corrosive taste coming from my liver all the time. It's the worst especially when I workout. It tastes and smells like death to me. Plus, it causes me to retain water like crazy. Even though I'm only on day 3 I already feel much better and lighter and the metal, corrosive taste of death is gone.

@fatcal13 keto is a diet that consists of mostly eating fatty foods with very low carb intake. Cuts out all sugar and processed foods. And after a short amount of time your body will give up on trying to use carbs for energy and switch to using fat. And your lbs will start to melt away. Plus it's a huge appetite supressor

The reason this diet allows weight loss is that for every gram of carb your body stores as glycogen, or sugar, it must also store 3 grams of water. This means that by not storing carbs you are also not storing water. The weight loss due to this type of eating is almost entirely the result of your muscles losing water weight. Long term success with weight loss from this diet is very uncommon. Also, eating fatty foods without consistent aerobic exercise leads to poor cardiovascular health. Take caution in how you use this diet especially if you have a family history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or any number of other cardiac issues. Eating yourself into a ketogenic state can not be maintained for very long periods. Remember, as soon as you begin consuming a balanced diet after a keto diet, your body will begin storing more water and the weight will return. Best of luck.
