    autumn is too fancy for regular conversation, but works better in writing.

    Both are correct. "Autumn" is more British English. "Fall" is more American. I try to use autumn more simply because it's less confusing sometimes.

    Fall...I have some family that lives on the east coast (Connecticut) and they say Autumn...they're the only ones I know who say Autumn...

    I call it Fall. Autumn sounds better, but I imagine autumn would be in a forest full of tree's with multi colored leaves...I think they have that in Minnesota.

    Fall is used more commonly in conversation in my region. Autumn is sometimes used.
    I think both are correct and it is just preference.

    I wonder if the word for fall in different languages sounds or looks more similar to each other than the word for autumn does?
    There were a lot of German or Scandanavian settlers in my region as well as English speakers so maybe they just preferred a more common word.
