Autumn vs Fall, which is more accurate?

autumn is too fancy for regular conversation, but works better in writing.3

Both are correct. "Autumn" is more British English. "Fall" is more American. I try to use autumn more simply because it's less confusing sometimes.0

I call it Fall. Autumn sounds better, but I imagine autumn would be in a forest full of tree's with multi colored leaves...I think they have that in Minnesota.1

Fall is used more commonly in conversation in my region. Autumn is sometimes used.
I think both are correct and it is just preference.
I wonder if the word for fall in different languages sounds or looks more similar to each other than the word for autumn does?
There were a lot of German or Scandanavian settlers in my region as well as English speakers so maybe they just preferred a more common word.0 -
I use both pretty regularly butTeacupsAndToning wrote: »I say autumn when I want to feel fancy

I like autumn because the word itself is just so flowery and poetic. Fall just sounds like.. fall. Fall down a flight of stairs. Fall off the wagon. It's a terribly dull word.0

I'm Australian. We don't say Fall. Here it is strictly Autumn.0
