I just finished: "Lincoln's Last Trial: The Murder Case That Propelled Him to the Presidency."
It is quite well written and quite interesting.
It seems the author got access to a stenographer's notes and account of the trial, notes that no one else had used before. This stenographer was exceedingly sharp and the book provides a good, clear picture of Lincoln as a lawyer.
It reminded me that there is a whole raft of new information on Lincoln that has been uncovered and researched in the last decade or so.
It seems that, after Lincoln died, his law partner, William Herndon, took it upon himself to interview as many of Lincoln's friends, family and acquaintances as he could. Over 100 people, I think.
Herndon published what he heard. But, for the most part, historians ignored his interviews. Too much of it was just hearsay, historical method said in the past. Not authoritative enough for reference. History must be based on official documents and letters written by the person involved. So, historians in the past ignored Herndon's treasure trove.
But now they use it. And there is all kinds of new information on, for example, his first love, his famous wrestling match that he won, how funny he actually was, and more. A LOT of personal information.1 -

You know, my wife does the same thing. She'll read an author TO DEATH... doesn't having a similar voice in your head book after book get boring. I like to jump not only authors but complete genres from book to book. I think that would make me crazy...2 -
Very interesting true story about a murder investigation and the innocent people who were convicted. Very scary what corrupt people in positions of power are able to accomplish.
