Every month, the UAC, encourages team members to track all of the intake calories; consume less than their chosen calorie limit; and exercise daily for at least 20 minutes of intentional activity.
That means the UAC is an accountability group for both those who want to lose weight and those who want to maintain the weight they have lost.
It's a great group of people and of course, the membership varies from month to month. If you are looking for accountability friends, the UAC is a great choice.
Daily sign ins are strongly encouraged and 3 Pass days are allowed per month. Those who succeed are victoriously congratulated by announcing them as members of our Winner's Circle!
Here is the November link http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/123363-ultimate-accountability-challenge-november-2017
I believe this is the best challenge on MyFitnessPal and is starting again on November 1.
Join the group and introduce yourself in the introductions thread (http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10609923/introductions#latest).
Even though UAC is not solely focused on weight loss, It got me to attain my goal weight in 3 months losing over 30 lbs. With UAC, I have successfully maintained this ideal weight for over 2 months now.
UAC is focused on consistency.
Both scale and non-scale victories celebrated.
Fantastic group of participants that help each other daily.
If you want to see how it runs, have a look at October - http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/122742-ultimate-accountability-challenge-october-2017
How much better would your results be with daily focus?
Think you can keep consistent for a month?

For some one like me, who can lose focus if I don't constantly remind myself of healthy eating and exercise habits, the USC is invaluable!2

@pcotter54. UAC is certainly a good place. I have watched other weekly weight based challenged flounder with less than stellar results without the daily interaction (and focus).
It is so easy to put things off to tomorrow. But when you need to report in daily, even if it is only to say "oops I stuffed up today", then you tend to keep up the effort and ret the results as a reward for it.
Great to have you along.

I am new to to My Fitness, maybe this will help me track food better. I do an hour of dog park every day, but just learning the food drill, and we mostly cook delicious things at home.2

@Westschmeis. From experience, yes this does help. Having to check in daily keeps focus on doing the right thing. You can also ask questions of those who have struggled with this before (and they help celebrate the small successes).
Welcome along.

I'm in! This has been the best challenge for me. I started in July, and figured, well I can do anything for one month. I picked a generous calorie allotment so I could succeed. What I learned during July was how to track calories daily, report to the group, and always get my exercise in. I saved my 3 pass days until the last two weeks as rewards and ate what I pleased.
I felt so good after the first month, that I continued the next two months, but with fewer calories. Now I'm at my goal weight. I took October off for two different surgeries. I'm looking forward to rejoining in November, and I'll be at maintenance! For the first time in 20 years. This challenge worked for me because the rules are simple: track all food, stay under goal, exercise daily, report to group. Simple doesn't mean easy, but the group is supportive and it can be done.3 -
I've been with the UAC since June, and both @craigo3154 and our leader @RangerRickL have been really friendly, supportive and caring.
Everyone there is super nice, I love reading each post each evening as I log my own daily activities, and it's just a great place for support, motivation and accountability.
I'll be there again in November - I hope you will too!

This is a great group. I joined in August, and I think that I've lost about 12 pounds because of this group. I've combined this group with an exercise challenge and have had amazing results.
The daily accountability is phenomenal and helps me stay on track. Sometimes I slip up, but I just get right back on track because...well...accountability...and life happens.
Everybody is very supportive. You'll get fantastic tips for your wt. loss/ fitness/ health journey.0 -
This is my Favorite group...I don't connect on MFP very easily...bit of an introvert...but this group is easy to talk to...or not...lol...I absolutely think it's the best!!!1

I love this group! We are there for each other even when times are tough in our everyday lives. It's nice to know if I am having a great day or even a really rotten day somebody's got my back to cheer me on.1

Is there any flexibility around the 20min/day of exercise? I intentionally build rest days into my workout schedule, but still average 7hours/week of exercise. Otherwise this sounds perfect for me.1

@ka97. Exercise should read "activity". Housework counts, gardening counts, shopping counts, swimming with the kids counts, etc... Anything out of bed and off the couch is generally good.
Rest day usually means nothing strenuous. It does not mean a total lack of activity.
For me a rest day is a 20 minute walk at a leisurely pace instead of the usual 5+km at near full pace.
Hope this makes sense.
Would love to have you along. We enjoy hearing other stories, sharing their burdens and cheering on their successes.

okaaaaaaaaay......I do really think this is the challenge for me.craigo3154 wrote: »Exercise should read "activity". Housework counts, gardening counts, shopping counts, swimming with the kids counts, etc... Anything out of bed and off the couch is generally good.
To be honest I don't count "activity" only intentional exercise - meaning that I do it for the sole purpose of the exercise. Exercise requires special clothing or equipment. If I'm in my regular clothing, it's not exercise.
Shopping, cooking, cleaning.....that's all daily life. And I did all that stuff when I was fat.
So that's just my hangup. It's going to be really hard for me to say "20 minutes cleaning the house", but I will. Count me in!

@ka97. I know a lot of people that spend a VERY large portion of the day sitting and not doing much. If their step count for the entire day reaches 1000, I'd be surprised.
The idea is to encourage keeping an active lifestyle (not just exercise with special clothes of equipment).
Most of my daily walking is in what could be deemed regular clothes (even though it is at a pace that others find hard to match - the track pants are the only concession there, and that is to stop chafing). My nightly bodyweight strength training is done in the bathroom with no special equipment (nor special clothing).
20 mins cleaning the house is quite acceptable. You are up and moving around, dusting, sweeping, scrubbing, washing. It can even be quite exhausting. (A rage clean can even be quite cathartic )October 29th:

@fe452436. Calculating calories for activity is only important *IF* you plan to eat them back or need to include them in your daily budget.
Most days I am so far under budget that I do not eat back any calories from walking (I do not record non-walking activity for calorie purposes - even the strength training).
Exercise or activity calories are always an estimate. The only real way to measure is a VO2 max test (think breathing apparatus that can measure difference between O2 inhaled and O2 exhaled). MFP has estimates for calories burned for all types of activity. If an MPF activity does not match what you want, a quick google search can get you a reasonable estimate (or at least how to work it out).
Calorie in food are always an estimate too, but it's the best we have to work with. Why a food calorie is not a calorie is a topic for a much longer post in a different place.

Hi, I'm sorry if this question has been answered and I missed it, but I'm wondering if we are sill considered within our calories if we eat back some of our earned calories through exercise. For example my calorie intake is 1286 and sometime if I've exercised a lot that day and earned another 600, I'll eat 300 back. Would I still be able to say I was within my calories?
Also my fitbit automatically tracks all my steps, so when I do 30 min on the treadmill, I don't make an entry as exercise on my account, as I don't want to double count my earned calories. However, I plan to enter the 30 minutes on this challenge. Hope that makes sense.0 -
