Plenty of undesirable, arrogant, condescending, self-righteous, and judgmental members here. They tend to have the loudest voices. Probably because they enjoy inflicting themselves on others and also because they thrive on drama. I avoid posting and commenting in these forums very much for this reason. I am over it honestly. If I post it is on my private MFP page. The people with whom I have become friends are genuine, straight forward and most of all helpful with out behaving in this off-putting manner. When I am do come to the forums I do more searching and reading than anything else.
However the few very good members out here who also have more than a shred of maturity and sensibility about posting are also appreciated. I tend to take their provided input seriously as while taking the "other kind" with a grain of salt.8 -

My thoughts are that this place is very tame compared to any other social media or forum I've ever used.
I am not a part of many other sites, but I have heard this as well. Fitness people are actually tame compared to many other groups out there.
Whatever you do, do not join a baby/parenting forum. Those people are absolutely ruthless.5 -

Hicks as in "country folk"? That's a little ridiculous if you're serious. I don't see any smileys or winky faces so I guess it is safe to assume you are serious. I am pretty sure the nasty attitude I describe is available for anyone who chooses it.1 -

AND their use of sarcasm. Most mean things are said through sarcasm but of course here, if you can't handle sarcasm you're a sensitive Sally.
Well that’s kind of true irl as well. But when you are being addressed by someone in a sarcastic manner you can roll your eyes or give them a look or something, which I think is a normal response to sarcastic comments....you can’t really do that on line.
Like this?
I'll see your eye roll and raise you Hoff
well this is just awesome and I happen to be walking like an egyptian too0 -

This is correct. They are truly the WORST. I avoid such.1 -

And yes this can be intimidating but I love the way you all smack down the bs in weight loss and nutrition. You try to sell herbalife on here you should be smacked down...2

There all sorts of people here. Sarcastic, mean, the ones that think their opinion is the only one that matters, passive aggressive, thirsty needing validation, sweet, kind, overbearing, fake, pretty much anything you can think of. All of the friends I have made have come from these boards and they are honestly the bomb. They may be sarcastic and rarely serious out here in forum land but on my serious wall posts, they are the best, sweetest, funniest, most genuine friends I can ask for. Everyone has multiple sides to them and they chose who they want to show them to and when.10 -

I think a lot can be lost in this medium.. people can come off in a different way than intended. So, I over look most of it.. yet there are those few zero tolerance fit folks who won't cut anyone a break and lecture on anything that isn't diet perfection. I think they suffer from the "if I did it you can do it no excuses" school of thought. They come off like real butt heads.2

Odd how a wall produces a complete personality change and character adjustment.
Not really in my opinion, it's more personal and private. People can be more vulnerable there without judgement. Out here you get judged for most everything that is posted.4 -

It seems that way but it's not private. It's no different than anything else you type on a screen and send out into electronica land. It can be forwarded out into the cyber wilderness by anyone given access to it and then take on a life of its own. None of it's private.
Well yes, in that sense yes. But I wasn't getting technical and literal on that stuff. Walls feel like a safer place than a huge forum.

For the record, I’m the same *kitten* here as I am on someone’s wall. Just wanna get that out there.
Not me. I post on walls as a 67 year old Latino man with a balloon fetish.

Forums go thru cycles of life and death.. and cycles of toxicity and health..
They often mimic societal cycles. .. because we're dumb monkeys that don't like learning from mistakes.4 -
