And of course I wake up this morning and have a coughing fit that aggravates my lower back issue, so didn't ride in to work today. Bah.

    No cycling, but lots of leg and cardio work in my gym (garage); lots of squats, lunges, skipping, core work, planks and other silliness with my kettlebell. Very sweaty.

    Also, not sure if this is of interest, but I recently made it a goal to cycle the same distance that it would take to get to Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada (where I went on my honeymoon) by my first wedding anniversary! It's 2493 miles from my house to Lake Louise and I have til June 24th. According to my projections I should make it pretty easily, especially with some charity rides coming up in the late spring/early summer, but it's a fun goal/nice memory that will motivate me :)

    Last two rides were very contrasting....
    Long, steady ride in the cold on Thursday, 56 miles and the cool temperatures seemed to keep my HR down as I only averaged 131bpm.

    Today it was hard not to boil over despite a huge fan blowing over me - did an hour on the Wattbike trainer doing 210/160 watt six minute intervals. Quite a hateful routine really!!

    Dental appointment Monday after work ... worst extraction I've ever had. Not the fault of this dentist - she was good. Fault of previous dentist and ... tooth root embedded in jaw bone + bad infection surrounding tooth. Had to cut my gum open and dig out the bone. Couldn't freeze me enough.
    I am on cold liquids (ice cream, yogurt, Ensure) and not supposed to exercise for a couple days. She said not even walking but I did need to walk a little bit today (Nov 7).

    The walking was between Open Homes in Hobart. Each year we're given the opportunity to explore buildings that we don't normally have access to. This has been going on for several years, and each year we pick a few places that we'd like to see. It's quite interesting!
    The cycling was a test ride to see whether or not my jaw would hold up to the joins in the pavement on the Cycleway and other bumps. It did all right.

    I love riding my bike. I live in Canada AND am a fair-weather rider. I've never been a long-distance roadie by any means, but I do enjoy it
    I find I gain a lot of weight over the winter, so this winter I picked up a trainer & treadmill, with the goal of riding 3x ea. week. I learned a few things; riding on the trainer is uninspiring and takes discipline, and it takes more work..there is no coasting..it's 100% pedaling. However while my distance isn't great, I have managed the following:
    Nov 1 - 30min / 10km
    Nov 2 - 47min / 17km
    Nov 6 - 55min / 17 km
    Nov 8 - 30min / 24 km
    Nov10 - 40min / 16km
    Nov 12 - 57min / 18km
    Nov 14 - 52min / 18km
    Nov 15 - 40 min / 16km
    Nov 19 - 45min / 18km

    On days I don't ride, I make sure i get on the treadmill and ensure I reach 10,000 steps for the day.

    I expect time and distances to grow as I get used to moving again.

    Well and truly into "coughing my lungs up" season, so looks like yesterday's ride was the end of my month.

    Weirdly, my lungs are OK on the bike, albeit I'm a bit down on energy, but once I get off it...!

    Less miles for me this month as I had a holiday in Tenerife. It's been years since I've been there and hadn't realised it has turned into a biking Mecca. The airport had loads of people wheeling bike boxes and bags.

    Unfortunately although I was close to some great looking rides to/around/up Mt Teide (highest point in Spain) I managed to stay in a resort without any bike hire shops. Doh!!
    Could have had one delivered for a minimum 3 day rental but seemed a bit selfish for a family holiday.
    Did manage some Spinning sessions with a view over the Atlantic towards the island of La Gomera.

    Partly as I've gained a whole lot of weight on holiday (that well known condition called "All-Inclusive-Holiday-itis") I've decided to commit to trying to hit 5,000 miles this year. 430 miles required in December.

    So plenty of unpleasant indoor sessions coming up for me.....

    Going to start logging in December if someone posts a challenge. So far this month I have biked 55 hours...lifted about 5

    2:06 last night
    2:01 tonight

    Trying to hit 700 hours of cycling (only) this year so 65 is the goal for December. I race so volume matters.

    Oh and I do not really log miles, just time. Since I live in Wisconsin almost all my training is inside in my pain cave.

    Nov 1 - 7 km walking (85 min) + 16 flights of stairs (12 min) ... that's 16 flights of 20 steps, up and down and including a few steps on each landing. :)

    Nov 3 - 6.7 km walking (80 min) + 8 flights of stairs (6 min) ... lots of walking to university for exam, between university and work, out to the grocery store to get lunch, and out to dinner later in the day.
    Nov 4 - 7.9 km running (mostly) and walking (65 min) + 1.6 km rowing (10 min) ... I don't run often but I got into the zone!

    Dental appointment Monday after work ... worst extraction I've ever had. Not the fault of this dentist - she was good. Fault of previous dentist and ... tooth root embedded in jaw bone + bad infection surrounding tooth. Had to cut my gum open and dig out the bone. Couldn't freeze me enough.
    I am on cold liquids (ice cream, yogurt, Ensure) and not supposed to exercise for a couple days. She said not even walking but I did need to walk a little bit today (Nov 7).

    The walking was between Open Homes in Hobart. Each year we're given the opportunity to explore buildings that we don't normally have access to. This has been going on for several years, and each year we pick a few places that we'd like to see. It's quite interesting!
    The cycling was a test ride to see whether or not my jaw would hold up to the joins in the pavement on the Cycleway and other bumps. It did all right.
