There is no bad weather, just inappropriate clothing. It get's down, on occasion, to -40 around here and I run outside all year round. Cold weather is invigorating (admittedly I'll skip my run on days with freezing rain, there's a fine line between dedication and stupidity)

The fresh air. The sun. The vitamin D from the sun. How can one NOT want to walk outdoors. I walk indoors too, but when I can get out, I get out. It's the best every. Your body needs the air and the sun to feel better and work properly. The treadmill is great, for when you can't get out.

Walking outdoors is a must for my health. I actually prefer colder weather because I can always bundle up.

I love walking outside, but when the weather is just too bad I walk inside on the treadmill. You actually use muscles differently when you walk outside than you do on the treadmill, per my podiatrist.

Running? No. Walks? Yes! Ohio gets pretty cold in the winter but we still get outside everyday. A Bosnian friend once told me that the key to keeping kids healthy is to take them outside, everyday, even just for a few minutes. (He also told me to put goats milk on my feet when I get the sniffles, so I take all his advice with a grain of salt, but I loved the idea anyway). I love trudging through the snow with a baby in a carrier on my chest. It's definitely a work out and we keep each other warm. I don't run outside when it's very cold because it hurts my chest, though.

    Alright guys,

What are your thoughts on walking outside ?, I do my cardio indoors because of convenience, I train weights and then do the cardio after to save time.

The weather is cold, so that puts me off the cardio outside as well.

Why not. It's walking- you can bundle up, wear boots, etc. (None of the freeze your *kitten* off for the first half mile of running because you would start sweating after that unless you start out under-dressed).

As others, I prefer outside but sometimes inside is just easier and more convenient.

I prefer walking outside, hate the treadmill. If you dress for it, the cold is not a problem.
I live in MN where it gets well below zero and have walked outside in -30 below F actual temperature, with a wind chill in the -70's. It isn't pleasant with that kind of wind, but I did it.

walking outside is so much better for your health and mental well-being. I would NEVER go for a 'walk' on a treadmill, walking is a means to either get somewhere or explore the outdoors in a different way than running.

Dress appropriately, wrap up warm, and yes, that means you can still be outside in minus 35 degrees C (check windchill readings). In Scandinavia they put their babies to sleep outside. Cold weather is invigorating, and after a brisk walk in the cold there is nothing better than a pub lunch in front of a roaring fire.

nah, there's bad weather for people who need glasses to navigate safely outside ;)

also, just to be contrary . . . 'appropriate' clothing can be a pain in the *kitten* in its own right. i have to dress up like a deep sea diver some days. plus, once clothes are wet they stay wet for a really long time. nothing like climbing back into that pile of cold, clammy, still-soggy stuff at the end of a long day at work.

Walking outside is nice sometimes and sometimes it is irritating to deal with.
Today I walked 2.4 miles. It was cloudy, damp and about 40°F. I don't consider that cold. Some spots were slippery with water, mud and leaves. There was uneven ground, dog poop, gravel, traffic to add to the walking challenge. There were places that smelled bad. There are few sidewalks here. My shoes, socks and pants legs were pretty wet by the time I got home. I felt grumpy.
The other day I walked 1.5 miles outdoors and it was cloudy, 29°F and windy. I was bundled up and layered but still fairly cold by the time I got home. Not dangerously cold but give me hot chocolate and a heater type cold.
I walk indoors regularly (not on a treadmill) and it is fine. I probably walk a bit faster outside because I want/have to get somewhere. There is changing scenery outside so it is less dull. It is nicer to walk on a nature trail vs city streets.

How do you feel about being outside or where you would be walking?

I was given great advice from a fitness trainer about what to wear outdoors for my walks - summer or winter. Always dress as if it is 10 degrees Celcius warmer than it really is. That rule has never done me wrong.
