I was looking for an active thread where i could write during a craving and get some support to stop it but i couldn't find any. I checked out some groups but no active posters there. So i will post here. Feel free to ask for support when you are craving or feeling the urge to binge eat.

I just celebrated my daughters 3rd birthday today. Her favorite foods and cake of course everywhere. It was hard to organize everything for everyone and not partake.
I almost justified breaking my low carb mentality, but I knew the cheat would feel hollow once I ate it and I’d be so angry at myself afterward. I was proud of myself for being able to mentally walk back from impulse. The hubs was proud too and made me a cup of tea to celebrate while he cleaned up❤️
It’s getting progressively easier. Every time I have succumbed to a cheat, it’s never as tasty as I’d thought it’d be, it’s a let down. I hold onto those experiences to keep me on track.

When did you start eating healthy? How long did it take you to manage to say no? I'm trying to maintain my weight for now but if i could end my late night snacking i'll start eating less and lose a couple of pounds.2 -

I’ve been working at it(weight loss) in earnest for the last 18 months. I’m 31 and have four young children. Our house is always filled with stuff that the kids and my husband prefer which isn’t usually what helps me. I’ve had a few periods where life events will stress me out and depress me so my entire attitude goes out the window and I gain everything back a neck breaking pace over 8-12 weeks.
When I get heavy, I have issues with my blood pressure. I have a heavy family history of heart disease and diabetes, so I have that to motivate me, I want to be around long enough for my kids not to need me.
My husband worries for my health so he is completely behind whatever I decide for myself which definitely helps.
What really got me fired up was finding a picture of myself from after I had my first child. I went back to prepregnancy size with nominal effort. I basically said to myself, if I can look like that after one baby, why can’t I after 4? I taped that photo to my bedroom mirror with a note to myself to stay motivated!
When I switch over from eating everything in excess to select food groups in moderation, I noticed it was harder for me to ride it out the first few days-week. I worked through this by eating more proteins and other healthy simple items, veggies, nuts, lean meats as much as I wanted so I didn’t feel hungry enough to diviate from healthy foods. This helped me ride out the period where the body goes through withdrawal from the processed sugars and fats. A few days of eating this way and I progressively noticed I needed less to be full.
The times that I have snacked on some of my old comfort foods, they just taste ‘meh’ to me now. I can taste chemicals and grease and it is a profound disappointment. I take time to really analyze that so I can basically create a new negative association with the old ways instead of retaining the comfort reward memory.
PremierProtein shakes in bananas and cream are my evening hero. I drink that before 7pm every night with my multivitamins. I would live in a banana cream pie if it were possible, so it’s a fix I look forward to to close out my day. It keeps me satisfied about 3-4 hours so I pass out content.11 -
I have a hard time Kate at nite too. I do so good during the day and then mess it up at nite. The kids food is tempting too. I love to cook and bake so I feel super deprived when I can't do what I like to do or make stiff for my family for fear I will eat it. Ugh. Any suggestions? I'm doing a low carb /high protein diet.2

Hi! Happy to see this thread. I am 4 days "clean" and in control. I've battled binge eating most of my life. I'm either in control or out of control. It's like I have an on/off switch and struggle with maintaining balance and moderation. I lose weight, get close to my goal or even reach goal and then I'm off and binging, gaining it all back. Here I go again!! Nightime is a struggle for me when I am binging. I have had some success with herbal teas at night. Sometimes a small handful of almonds just feel satiated for bedtime. It helps me to know others have the same issues.5

While this is a great thread, i do wish to encourage that if people are chronically struggling with binge eating on a consistent basis with no control, to seek help, this is not something you should let go and hope it goes away. There is options out there to help, I am currently medicated for my binge eating disorder and would of never made it without them.7

I felt like binge eating last night but i had 2 bowls of low calorie soup instead and told myself that i'd eat whatever i want if i still felt hungry after waiting for half an hour and the feeling were gone after 30 minutes10

When did you decide to get help for your binge eating? How many times a week were you binging?1 -
It took me years to get help.
I was eating 5-6k calories a day pretty much every day.
There is a big difference between binge eating and binge eating disorder. When one becomes the other.. or if one isn't the other that's when it's time to get help.3 -
I am craving cake right now but it is 10.30 pm and i've already gone over my maintenance calories4

There’s an active support group for binge eating with a daily check in thread that’s very supportive: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/726-binge-eating-support-group2

I am back! I started to eat clean last week and I was doing well until yesterday. I ate half a jar of nutella. I felt like binge eating but I stopped myself and ate a healthy dinner and promised myself I won't cheat again but I cheated again today. Not a big cheat though and I ate a healthy dinner half an hour ago. I am 166 cm and 63 kg (5'5 and almost 139 lbs) so I don't have much to lose but I am angry because I just can't do it I'll post here when I feel like cheating. I hope I can do it this time3

I struggle constantly. I am not one of those "moderation is everything!" people. If I get one bite, I'll want 100. I have to abstain completely. After a couple weeks, the sugar cravings do go away. However, I still have my weak moments. The one day of the week I telework is so hard. I'm home in the house alone and all I think about is eating. Especially wanting huge bowls of sugary cereal and peanut butter toast.3

currently craving chocolate or anything "dessert" like. but I'm pmsing so there's a "reason". However, I do have a past/present battle with binge eating. Haven't in a while but the urges are always there. my dad is a binge eater..1

I just ate a caramel & chocolate bar and full fat white cheese sandwich and also some extra string cheese. I am not sure if this was binging or was i just hungry i ate 2465 calories today0

I am the same. I cant stop with one bite. Everything would be easier if we could eat moderately1 -

I posted what i just ate. Do you think this is binge eating or did i just overeat?0 -
Snacking at home is my biggest struggle. I could have 3 full meals but still want little sweets or tasty treats...3

Last night was a disaster. I'd already taken around 2600 calories by 9 pm and i binged around midnight and ate almost 1000 extra calories and i am 2 lbs heavier today hoping to get rid of it in a few days3

It took me 3 days to lose binge weight and it was frustrating. I am hoping to go for 3 weeks without cheating or binging.1

I recently had admitted I "struggle " with binging. Since doing that, I started reading 2 books, Brain over Binge and Taming The Feast Beast. I have found both to be very interesting and helpful. In a matter of 2 weeks from me telling myself and others I "struggle " today I feel I "manage ". One simple word change, one small change in how I view the urge to over eat has made a HUGE difference.
Wishing you luck!3 -
Second Laura’s Brain over Binge recommendation.
It’s not easy but it comes down to recognizing the voice of the Binge beast, recognizing deeply entrenched habits, and then using the higher brain, to interrupt the process.
Mindfulness / Awareness is important to recognize that the Binge is coming. So I also recommend being alert to situations that trigger binging.2 -

I am not sure if I have a binge eating problem. I usually binge every two weeks when I'm on a diet. Do you think this is normal?0 -
I do think that is normal.
Diets involve consuming less calories over a period of time. Your brain wants to protect you from harm. The brain will see longer term calorie deprivation as threat. So the hypothalamus will send strong urges to consume calories.
Also, during a diet you might not be getting as many nutrients as the body demands. Fats are essential, and low fat diets are very popular. The brain and body knows what it is deprived of and you will begin to experience cravings and urges.
Binge Eating Disorder, and Bulimia can result from the dieting cycle, but are more involved. It’s usually more of a Restriction- Binge - Purge repeating cycle. There are other factors such as obsession, fear foods, anxiety, and other non normal eating rituals; (Hiding evidence of the binge and purge for me) This activity requires medical support.
If you want to lose weight, avoid extremes. Get your essential nutrients. If you are hungry, eat. Severe dieting behaviors will likely result in binging.
And if you eating does become uncontrollable and mindless, do seek help.3 -
Tbh I had to go to therapy. It was a lot of changing my way of thinking, then changing my eating habits. Having someone that understands and keeps me accountable was the most useful. I’m much better now with my self-control and it’s reflected in my ability to keep a healthy weight and eating habits but there are days that I cry because I’m so weak and my emotions (mostly anger) still need work. I’m continuing to learn that different foods are meant to be enjoyed in moderation. Keep fighting and build a social support system that caters to your needs and personality.1

I don't know what happened to me. I've been binging for 3 days and gained 3 kilograms. I feel devastated0
-
I've checked success stories on the forum several times and seen people lost big amounts of weight. They've done amazing jobs. I need to lose 5 kilograms only and I just can't do it. I am a total loser0
