Green tea diet

Wow, people are harsh here today. Will green tea make you lose weight? Probably not. Lots of debatable studies both pro and con. However, I drink numerous cups a day because it helps me to get my water intake in. My office is extremely cold and days that are office confined for me, I can't get myself to drink cold water when I'm cold. Additionally, every time I get up to heat up water, I'm adding steps to my day and giving myself a reason to walk. Plus, after drinking so much and having a bit of caffeine in there, I am also getting extra steps to go to the restroom. So, is the green tea itself helping me lose weight magically? No. But, it's keeping me hydrated, warm, and giving me a reason to walk much more throughout my work day on days I wouldn't otherwise remember or walk while here.
So if you like green tea and it helps you feel like you are doing something positive for yourself, hop on board the green tea train! Chooo chooo!8 -
OP said she doesn't like green tea.
If she wants to drink it, she should drink it, though, who cares.
I'm still confused about the point of this thread.
OP, if you want to see the effect of green tea on you, pick a consistent diet (same foods, same calories and macros) and eat it for a month and drink only water. Next month, do the same thing but drink green tea and keep track of how much. Don't change anything else (like exercise). This will work best if you are maintaining during the first month.5 -
Green Tea is a drink not a diet. You are losing weight because you are dropping water weight, and eating very low calorie, has nothing to do with the drink.1

Believe me, from my own personal experience, MFP works. No need to do anything else.
There is no trick to weight loss. Just eat less calories than your body burns in a day and stay the course.
well thats not all accurate. Ive lost about 30 lbs and it wasn't just by eating less calories than my body burns a day.i changed my diet.
You do realize that by changing your diet you are eating less calories than you burn right? I mean if you ate more of the food you are eating now in your diet you won't lose weight.3 -

People can use any diet they want with MFP, it's just a way to track their input and out puts.1 -

But you said this in your op "Ive read about how good it is to drink 3-4 cups of green tea a day for weight loss." You don't have to back track, people aren't being aggressive, they are just annoyed with somebody changing their story once they got the accurate advice.

Then you clearly don't understand how weight management works. To lose weight you have to consume less energy (calories) than you expend...when you do that, your "backup generator" (body fat) kicks on and you burn body fat to make up for the deficiency of energy.
When you changed your diet you started consuming less energy (calories) than you were expending whether you were cognizant of that or not. This is scientifically indisputable.3 -

I have no research to back up anything about green tea, so take this for what it's worth...
I've been drinking green tea for ages, 3-4 cups a day at least. I got plenty fat while drinking it (from all the junk I ate) and have lost weight while drinking it (from all the junk I don't eat)...i don't think it has any impact on weight loss, but it does taste good!9 -

Even vegans eat foods with protein and fat. If your diet is 100% carbs you have problems
Lentils, 1 cup 230 calories 40g carbs 1g fat 18g protein 16g fiber
Walnuts, 0.25 cup 200 calories 4g carbs 20g fat 5g protein 2g fiber
100% carbs was an exaggeration5 -

I was the first person to challenge that and I challenged it because there are already enough misconceptions out there about how vegans eat. Someone reading that might not know it was an exaggeration and it might further misconceptions that vegans have to be high carbohydrate or that we aren't meeting our needs for protein and/or fat.6 -

Girl, you need protein and fat in your diet. Protein and fat are the building blocks of healthy skin, hair and nails, muscles, and organs. Not getting enough protein can cause your hair to fall out and your muscles to waste away. A good guideline is .8-1 x your body weight. So if you weigh 150lbs, you should be getting 120-150g of protein every day.6 -

i like the theory of changing my own body. I have piercings and tattoos and all but i like the modification of my body. i can gain weight in places i wanna gain weight, lose weight wherever i want to lose weight. I don't mean in the way of being small- too small. ive always been at a healthier weight. my diet changes often besides the vegan part, thats constant. And i also just love some fruits, hasnt done anything worrying to my body.21 -
I wish. I drink up to 2 liters of tea (mostly green, white, and herbal) almost every single day of every winter and have done so for the past 15+ years. If it worked without eating less I would have lost all of my extra weight by now plus some. I love green tea.6

Just saying what I read in a book written by a DR. Didn’t say I believed it.

My cousin is doing a 30 day challenge of nothing but raw fruit. It sounds like such a colossal mistake but she's bought into the belief that this is somehow better for her.2 -

Oh my. Aside from all the nutritional deficiencies, just think of the intestinal issues...3 -

She was diagnosed with celiac and has been attempting to find a way of eating that doesn't agitate it. She has had progress with veganism, which is great for her, but the raw food/raw fruit thing...I don't know. This is her third time doing it this year that I know of.0 -

I drink green tea because I like it without sugar or milk, so it's calorie free and a nice beverage. It also doesn't give me the jitters like coffee does, but it still perks me up.
Pre-workout I drink a strong cup of Yerba Mate. I think the Yerba Mate has more weight loss benefits. One of which being it makes me super hyper and ready for a workout.
As for my own personal green tea study, I use 100 tea bags every two weeks on average. So I drink a lot of it. I don't think even at that level it is speeding up my weight loss in any way I can see.
It has given me a delightful stain on my tooth though. So if you plan on drinking it to excess, be prepared - the stuff stains your teeth really badly.3 -

yet......hasn't done anything worrying to your body yet.....that you know about. By the time it becomes obvious you're in bigger trouble than you think. For instance by the time it takes you to figure out something like you don't get enough protein and it does take some time, you will already have lost and continue to lose hair and that can take years to correct. and I am saying this from experience, I am in the process of growing my hair back I didn't get enough protein, iron, vitamin B and Vitamin D.......and I am not even vegan! My hormones went out of whack from lack of proper nutrients so I now have hormonal acne, hairloss and brittle nails. Don't play around with your health it's just not worth it. Bottom line to lose weight have a calorie deficit, to stay healthy make sure you are getting all of the vitamins and minerals you need and hit your macros.......everything else is BS and a waste of your time. For a visual my ponytail is no thicker than a dime. Oh and one last thing, you cannot choose where you lose weight, you can't add or subtract fat from certain parts of your body....nobody can but a good surgeon. The most you can do is tone an area which doesn't get rid of the fat but tones the muscle underneath. If I could do that I'd have the boobs and butt I want and a tiny little waist.3 -

Bless your heart, I feel your pain!! I take iron, zinc, Vitamin B, Vitamin D, Calcium, I make sure I get lots of protein, I don't wash my hair everyday, I use Nioxin shampoo and It's a Ten Keratin shampoo, I alternate. a few times a week I put 9 drops of peppermint oil and 2 tsp coconut oil mixed together, on my scalp and sleep in a little headwrap (NIH did a study on this and it is as effective if not slightly more than monoxidil). I got a wet brush if I have to brush my hair when it's wet. Finally starting to grow back hair and my nails are nice and hard, plus I still have hormonal acne but not nearly as bad.3
