How do you guys keep yourselves from stewing over pointless things that have upset you?
Do you get wasted? Take a long drive to clear your mind? Spend every dollar you have then go home and eat your feelings?
Give me some tips!

I usually eat my feelings, but I'm trying hard not to. These 35lbs were hard enough to lose, I'm not going to waste my progress on something so stupid!

If it's pointless, I don't worry about it. I have plenty of things that matter to worry about that I have no spare mental bandwidth to stress over petty things. I have a thing I go by; If it's not going to matter in 5 years, don't spend more than 5 minutes on it.

Go for a walk with my favorite music on or get on the treadmill with a good tv show.

I take a drive, inevitably in Atlanta traffic someone will piss you off in the first five minutes so you'll forget what was already bugging you.

Music helps, getting out for a walk/run for time to think too.

I don't usually stew over pointless things anymore. It's not worth the time or energy.

I've gotten to the point in my life where I am so busy and physically exhausted that I don't have the energy to devote to pointless things.

So I guess the answer is that I keep my mind occupied with work/kids, and my body occupied with lifting.

Right? Atlanta traffic just makes you want to kill yourself. Problem solved. Move to Georgia people.

Dont say that! Because even more traffic

Never mind people, Georgia is closed.

Theyd hate it here. No creampuffs, obesity factor is high, everything is fried, we call them donut holes, we have a 4 alarm panic at the mention of snow, and we have bats in our attics

I watch a movie that makes me cry, browse Pinterest for sentimental mumbo-jumbo, go for a walk or get on the treadmill and pretend I'm running away from my problems.

    A few things ...
    1. Eat (awful choice, don't do that.)
    2. Drink (I don't drink anymore, solves nothing. See line 1, eating solves nothing either.)
    3. Long walks, like a good few hours, 10 miles, etc. Or a workout in general. Sometimes I'm all "I sooooo don't wanna do this!!!" But in the end I'm always glad I did.
    4. Write letters to people who are bugging me. But NOT send them. It's really awesome to tell someone what a giant piece of crap they are and all the ways they hurt/irritate/disappoint you, etc. So at least by the next time you see them you're likely not stewing (as much).
    5. I sometimes rage clean. Wash woodwork, take the whole stove apart, nearly scrub the porcelain off the bath tub. lol
    6. And if all else fails I just go quiet (which can be a very bad sign) but it keeps me from saying something nasty (that I'll probably regret) and when my mind is more calm I'm usually ready to talk about it, like a civilized person.

When I am unhappy or stressed, I share my feelings with whoever made me unhappy or stressed.

    1. Knit/crochet
    2. Draw/paint
    3. Drink.. a lot.
    4. Read a book.
    5. Look at funny cat memes online.
    6. Play a violent video game or one I really enjoy (like Skyrim!)
    7. Maybe drink some more.
    8. Eventually realize it's not worth being angry about because I hate wasting time being angry. Just makes you bitter and sad in the end.
    9. Drink a bit more in solidarity to myself.
    10. Repeat process if necessary.
    11. Sleep.

"Sometimes when I feel like killing someone,
I do a little trick to calm myself down.
I'll go over to the person's house and ring the doorbell.
When the person comes to the door, I'm gone,
but you know what I've left on the porch?
A jack-o-lantern with a knife stuck in the side
of its head with a note that says "You."
After that I usually feel a lot better, and no harm done. "

But also I distract myself so I can't think about it, for example, listening to music, social media, exercise, video games, things like that. Humor and laughing also help.

Exercise - I can start a workout as mad as can be (usually at hubby and it's legitimate anger) - but by the end we are both fine. Endorphins.

I usually remind myself that I am wasting emotions rehashing it, I can't change it. If I can change then I should put my energy into doing so. Otherwise, let it go. If I can't let it go, then I pop a xanax.

Great suggestions everyone! I was going to use the pumpkin idea, but decided to go snuggle some cows in 10° weather instead. Turns out, shoveling a massive amount of poo is a great way to clear the mind of its own poo.

And when you smell like a barn it's easy to not eat :grimace:

Do you think it has to be poo for it to successfully clear your mind? Or could I shovel say, a warehouse full of packing peanuts and get the same effect?

As f'd up as I am inside at times, I still have a good base level of comfort and acceptance of myself as I am, so anything that someone would say against me really doesn't bother me. I am also accepting of people as they are, without silly expectations, but always with positive hope, so will I may get disappointed I don't really get mad there either.

I guess it would depend on the person. Could be snow, packing peanuts, cat poo, body parts, earth, etc.
Just depends on what you're in to :smirk:

Cleaning in general help me a lot though.

Let things go that which I can not change. Looking for positives instead of dwelling on negatives.
Meditate, exercise, get busy with other tasks, music, drawing, reading, killing things in video games learning new things.
