I'm always so skeptical of the new movies that I find out probably more than I should to see if I'll be disappointed. Removing that skepticism helps me just enjoy the movie the first time I see it.

Reading about it isn't the same as seeing it. Just like reading about fireworks isn't the same as seeing them.

Right now, I think I will be disappointed with the movie. However, I still haven't seen it and will just try to enjoy it when I do go see it.

    Does Luke finally bang Leia?

I just realized recently they're brother and sister

I always thought they were lovers before educating myself.

They do kiss twice in the films but it's not until the 3rd original movie that you find out.

    So like what?

So in the movies before we know they are brother and sister she kisses him for maybe 4 seconds the 2nd time. Then after we find out they are brother and sister, she tells Luke she's always known they where siblings (twins). Which means she thought Luke was related when she kissed him. The deleted scene would of just made things very weird.

NO WAY YOU HAVE TO GO AND GIVE US A FULL REPORT!!!

    You were probably joking anyway.

I hope Adam Driver dies a slow, painful death in the film’s first ten minutes, but I’m guessing that won’t happen.

    Have fun!

I did get to see the new Star Wars movie last night. I had to go see it in 3-D because that was the earliest showing that wasn't sold out. (No I did not purchase tickets in advance since I haven't had any issues with doing that before.)

I was pleasantly surprised. 3-D actually worked well with this film. (I am not a fan of 3-D because most of the time it doesn't really add anything. This time it was fun.)

Over all I liked the film more than The Force Awakens.

It is my favorite Disney Star Wars film so far.

I do have some issues with it and what Disney is doing.

After all what, after making a thread to talk about the new Star Wars movie? As I said, I still have some issues with the film, but the film itself is fun to watch. My major issue is
them killing off my childhood hero Luke Skywalker.

It's clear that Disney is starting from scratch now and almost invalidating everything that happened before Disney bought the franchise.

Another thing they are doing is saying anyone can be a rebel and anyone can use the force; that you don't have to be a Jedi or special to do good things. It sounds good on paper and helps promote Disney World but basically Disney is saying The Force is Disney Magic.

However they did create something new for the Star Wars universe and a way to continue it indefinitely. So I liked that. I liked the old Star Wars but I want to see something new.
However, they didn't need to kill off, basically, everyone from the old Star Wars to do it.

Saw it last night with my crazy family that pre-ordered their tickets and stood in line.

Forewarning - I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan or anything. There were parts of this movie that I loved. I definitely didn't like it as much as Force Awakens, though.

And then there were parts that I really, really hated.
I hated the part with Yoda most of all. It was completely unnecessary -
he just showed up to sort of recap the general theme of the prior 3 scenes, and if they had a little more trust in their audience (or maybe if they were good enough writers) they wouldn't need him to come along and mansplain.
Also, it felt manipulative, like they threw Yoda in there to appease the old-school fans. Also, they did his whole backward-speak thing wrong so that I barely even knew what he was saying, so the manplaining thing wasn't even effective.

I don't freaking understand the thing where Leia got blown out of the spaceship and then floated back. Was that supposed to be important? WTF was even the point of that? Were we supposed to learn something about Leia, there? Was it a big revelation? Or just Disney being lazy?

Yoda was there to say it's ok that the Jedi as we know them are dead and that the new (Disney) generation is approved by Yoda to take over.

Leia used the Force to save herself. That was big because we have never seen her do anything physical with the Force and didn't know if she could or not.

    Yoda. :)

Dude. Spoiler alert! A little respect. :rage:

I hope you were joking, lol. You know, the whole 'WARNING SPOILERS' thing in the title might have been an indication that there would be spoilers...

Also... SPOILERS (I don't know how to use the tag)

My impression... a few surprises (couple things I saw happening a mile away like the Luke thing at the end) but building the whole Snoke thing for that to happen... seems very lazy to me.

And again, they totally stole from scenes from the other movies. And we still don't know who Rey is.

I honestly was way more excited coming out of the Force Awakens than this one. Doesn't mean I didn't like it.. but I was expecting more.

That would actually fit with the whole theme of the movie. I don't think the director did a very good job of showing us that, but whatever. I can accept it, although there's a voice in the back of my head that thinks this just raises additional questions.

It does raise further questions but that's where the merchandising of the books, tv shows and other media sources comes in to explain what is not explained in the movie.

For example, Vice Admiral Holdo's backstory comes from the book Leia: Princess of Alderaan which takes place when Leia was 16.
