Two piece bathing suits (bikinis) on women with stretch marks...

What’s your opinion? Should they wear them? Does it matter? I recently read a thread on another site that said overweight women and women with stretch marks (even at a healthy weight whether stretch marks from past pregnancy or whatever) should never wear a bikini. That other people shouldn’t have to look at them and their stretch marks (and fat) while at the beach.
What’s your opinion? I never knew people felt so strongly about this.

I think people should wear whatever makes them comfortable.
Everyone else should mind their own business.19 -
I was honestly shocked at some of the responses. I’m only 20, but I have pretty bad stretch marks from my first pregnancy. They’ll never go away, and I’m okay with that. I just didn’t realize so many people thought they were disgusting. It’s pretty unfortunate. I never questioned wearing a bikini until I saw that post.8

I'd bet you anything the people that posted that are men with big beer bellies. But, I image that's super sexy in their books.9 -
As someone who was morbidly obese and was even told I shouldn't even be allowed outside even fully covered up with a hoodie.. it baffles me how people think that their opinion of others is even remotely important.
Why do people have to aesthetically pleasing for others to be allowed to exist? Why is their existence so much more important then someone else's? Why do they think they are so perfect.
You know what?
I would rather be fat.
I would rather have stretch marks.
It's way better then growing up to be a *kitten* person on the inside.23 -
Wear a bikini of you want to and *kitten* everyone else.9
-
Gahh, people and their opinions. Those people probably think they have 0 flaws too and well I know what they can do with those opinions
Wear what you want to and just remember it's how you feel in that 2-piece and the heck with everyone else.3 -
Thanks for the responses so far! They’ve given me a new perspective2

There's very very few people, not just women, who have escaped stretch marks. So if we followed some arbitrary body police rule we'd all be in full body one pieces.
Have a body? Then you have a beach/summer/little black dress/whatever the eff you want body.16 -
Oh and I've had stretch marks, pretty extensive, since I was about 13. Why? Because I was a competitive gymnast training 5 days a week until early teens. Everything, including growth, was delayed because of that. When I stopped training growth and puberty hit like a runaway train, it would have been a miracle if I came out of that without a stretch mark!7

Wear whatever makes you happy!! Who cares what others think!
Me personally, I have had three kids (including a set of twins). I have more stretch marks and skin than I ever care to admit. I'm not in a place where I am comfortable showing them off. But that's my own issue, definitely not because I'm worrying about what others think!! I plan on getting a tummy tuck next year and I'll have stretch marks that still show, and you can bet your butt I'll be wearing my two piece then!!2 -
Stretch marks are just a fact of life. Wear that bikini and forget about everyone else.1
-
I have stretch marks, cellulite and some loose skin. I rock a bikini pretty darn well. Wear what you want and are comfortable in.2
-
Speaking as a 6' tall 300lb lady, I wear a high waist 2 piece swim suit because I like it, and if someone has an issue with that, I can always step on them.32
-
Wear what you want! Skinny people don't have to wear two pieces any more than overweight people/those with stretch marks have to wear a one piece3
-
I shouldn’t have to share air space with such shallow, vapid people that would think they have any say over anyone else’s body, but we do what we must5

Why does an opinion of random strangers on the internet bother you?5 -

LOL. Perfect.1 -
As long as the swimsuit fits and the person is comfortable then they should wear whatever they want.
People with stretch marks, scars, excess fat, loose skin, an injury or deformity do not have to cover their bodies any more than anyone else.

Personally, anytime I find a two piece that does not make me feel like one of the dancing Hippos from Fantasia (pink frill does NOT work on me) the tops are always popping either up or down, making actual
swimming problematic
But as far as stretch marks goes, if the other person is bothered by them, they are probably not someone worth worrying about. If it's someone you'd want to care about what you look like naked, well they would have to see the stretch marks eventually right? Weed out the shallow idiots who'd care early

Literally every full grown woman will have a stretch mark or two. This is stupid.4

wear what you feel good in. regardless of what a random rebel circus article on facebook says i have stretch marks, i wear bikinis. in fact, nearly EVERY woman has stretch marks SOMEWHERE.

I think most full grown men do too. At least from what I've seen. They just tend to have hair that camouflage the marks a bit.
People can wear what they want and it doesn't bother me as long as it's appropriate attire for the venue. I have a really hard time with swimsuits (literal tears nearly every time I have to wear one.) If somebody has one that she likes and feels good wearing, I am absolutely thrilled for her.6 -
Who decides this *kitten*? First off, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Confidence is a sexy thing. I wish I had that confidence when I was 19 with a perfect body who wore a darn towel around my waist at the pool or beach. Waste of effort & time. Be happy with you & forget what some idiot on the internet thinks.
Oops. Aren’t we on the internet??4 -
I'm at an athletic body fat % and I still have stretch marks. Hasn't stopped me from bikini wear.
I've never been told anything to my face negative about it.
Just do what you want. Stretch marks may fade a bit with weight loss, but they never go away.1 -

Because to many people, that translates into "This is what people on the beach will think of me if I wear a bikini this summer."
Just like the people on the "gym" threads say they won't every go to a gym because of the judgmental attitudes they see from the posters (who are, to be fair, mocking someone they saw at the gym in some way or other).
It's like a survey - a random sampling of a small subset of people somehow "speaks" for "most people".

Fashion is personal ... it is a statement. When a fat woman wears a bikini and lets it all hang out She's telling the world who she is.. when a fat woman wears a black full one piece with good support and wears a sarong. She's telling the world who she is.
my mom was fat...she never went anywhere, she never went to a beach...she never dressed up for a party. She never got the chance to tell the world who she was.
Wear what the f you want. ..and live your life.3 -
I grew up fat.
And a bunch of what I could and couldn't wear "rules" were beat into my head by fat shaming relatives (including my mother). They used to sit at the pool or the beach and make comments about everyone else too.
So I know what it's like to live with the fear that people are judging what you look like in something and judging if something is appropriate for you to wear and knowing that it happens.
You know what?
Eff that noise. At some point, I got over my family and trying to please them because really, life is too short. And they were wrong. The people wearing whatever they wanted to wear were the people who were right.
And that's who you'll be, OP, rocking your bikini. If people care about the stretch marks, who cares about someone that shallow and small minded?6 -

I don't see many men wearing two-piece bathing suits tho lol so apparently they are safe from judgement.2 -
Sometimes people suck. Rock the bikini.1
