Question, how long did it take you to lose 50 pounds? I’m wanting to lose 50 in 6-8 months but fear it’s not possible. Stats: 5,4, 181 pounds. 1600 calories per day with ~20-30 minutes exercise every day. Walking and light weight lifting

It will take me roughly 50 weeks if I keep up this trend.

How long it takes is totally up to each individual person. Just because it takes one person 8 months to lose 50 pounds doesn't mean it's going to take the next person the same amount of time if they are only putting in half the effort. Losing around 6 lbs per month IMO is doable but won't be a whole lotta fun for you.

    I am 5'4. I started at 195 and now I am 146.
I started logging loosely in July and lost 20 lbs. I started logging EVERYTHING in the end of August.
I go to the gym off and on.. not really consistently. I eat 1300-1500 calories.

30 weeks for the first 30 lbs, 40 weeks for the final 20. That's if you're very consistent with your calorie deficit.

Took me about 9 months to lose 40 Lbs...average trend was about 1 Lb per week, but not in a linear fashion...

i lost 50 in 6 months. but i was also 280 pounds. if i was 50 away from my goal weight (as I am now), i wouldnt expect or hope for anything more than a pound a week at MOST, and realistically, the more you lose and closer you are to your goal weight, the less that will be

Took me 5 months. I'm 5'7". I started at 214 and I am now 161. I'm pretty close to the top of the normal BMI now, so I imagine it's starting to slow down. Big factor is how overweight you are to begin with!

Starting at a high weight over 300 it took about 2.5 months to lose 50 lbs. But if you weigh more you lose faster. The slower you can lose the better.

OP, I threw your stats in a TDEE calculator set to "lightly active" and your current deficit should be about right to lose 1lb/week.

    I'm 5'5", lost weight in 2015-16 (age 59-60, hypothyroid).

    SW, 4/17/15 - 183 pounds

    First time I hit 133 (there's always a little bouncing around ;) ): 10/23/15 (133.5, actually - never hit right on 133 on a morning weigh-in).

That was a little more aggressive for a while than was good for me, though. I'd suggest a bit slower.

    50 pounds in 8 months - that's about 34 weeks. 50/34=1.47 pounds a week.

Weight loss won't be linear. You may start off with 1.5 pounds a week, but it's not likely to continue for the whole 8 months. That's because you have to lower your calories as you become a smaller person and you can only reduce your calories so far (without sacrificing nutrition). A 1.5 pound a week loss is a 750 calorie deficit every day.

I’m wanting to get to 130 pounds down from 181, primarily because I’m wanting to get fit and all before the whole starting a family thing. If I can lose 50 pounds then that should give me greater license to gain 30!
In terms of diet, I’m eating a ton of veggies and trying to cook dinner every night and logging every.single.morsel.
Whenever I get a chance I’ll walk for 10 minutes throughout my day and then exercising after work as well.

    15 weeks.

    YMMV.

It took me over a year. I did it slowly so I wouldn't risk losing a lot of muscle. Biggest mistake I made though was being at a caloric deficit for an entire 12 months because it did some major damage to my metabolism. Took me over a year to recover :-(

Yeah, I’m sticking to 1600 a day because I tried 1200 once and couldn’t manage it I was sssooo hungry. 1600 seems good though

I lost 60lbs in a year, started at 270lbs, 5'10. Gained 5lbs back during my two weeks of holidays. I didn't put a timeline on my weight loss and focused on more a -1lbs deficit weekly, plus adding in exercise I enjoyed. My goals aren't for weight loss but for personal satisfaction (i.e. I ran a 5K then 10K and will soon be prepping for a half marathon in the spring).

Slow and steady, and give yourself plenty of time to reach your goals. This is a lifestyle change. If it takes a year to lose 50lbs, that's okay. You'll still get there.

The first 50 lbs. About a year.

The second 50 lbs. another year and a half.

The last 15 lbs took 7 months.

It honestly depends on how overweight you are to start.

But I always choose to look at this way: the time is going to pass anyways, does it matter if it happens in 6 months? a year? more?

I figure it will take me 3 years. I’m 2 years in now. Lost 22 pounds in 2016, lost 15 in 2017, plan to lose 13 in 2018. Slow loser right here!

    I lost 48-49 lbs, over a year and a half, going from 185 to 136-137 at 5'5''.

I deliberately took a long time to lose weight as I'm unable to function below say 1600 calories per day.

Eating just a bit below maintenance was a great preparation for maintenance itself, which I've been successfully doing for about nine months now.
