Zero Calorie drinks

Hello,
Yes, I agree- Calories are king in a sense of weight loss but not in nutrition sense. However, the Zero calorie drinks like ice tea and coke zero and pepsi zero and what not- are they truly zero in that sense? as in if I drank a gallon of it. It's not weight gain right?
I like to keep hydrated and yes water is a better alternative but sometimes I like something other than water.
Label does say all is zero-but just want to confirm. I am not added calories to my diet by drinking that right?
Also, how do they make it sweet by keeping it calorically zero?

Artificial sweeteners. If it's zero calories, it can't cause weight gain.
Most "Zero" drinks aren't actually zero, but are under 5 cal per serve, so close enough.

Yes they're definitely zero calories, so they add nothing to your daily total. As to the sweetness, that's likely to be listed on the label somewhere. Not usually regular sugar though.4
-
They use an artificial sweetener that is many times as sweet as sugar, which means they only have to use a fraction of it to get the same sweetness, which eliminates the calories. No harm in diet soda unless you personally have a bad reaction to artificial sweeteners. Also, since sodas are 99% water, they are hydrating.7

I drink a lot of herbal teas & don't need sugar in them, very tastey3

Alright. Thanks all. It was new flavour- Coke Zero cherry. I do not drink soda at all. I used to drink Ginger ale once in a while after consuming a whole pizza but that's about it. Once rest of my 4 abs appear then I'd be little more lax. Thanks again2

No harm diet wise but they’re awful for your teeth16

They are a diet life saver!!4

On the days I drink a crap ton of diet mountain dew, it adds up to like 20-30 calories. Not zero, but not significant at all.3

I don't know for sure if they are actually 0 cal, but they are allowed to say 0 cal if they have less than 4 calories per serving. So if you want to be safe, track how many servings you have and see if the worst case scenario (4 cals each) adds up to anything worth logging.

I got seriously addicted to diet drinks (dr pepper zero, and then I transferred over to pepsi max). I have no idea exactly what caused it, but the withdrawal when I stopped was horrific. I had to wean myself off in the end. I was drinking absolutely litres of the stuff, though. So, they're delicious, go for it, but don't go nuts. I've spent the majority of the last 8 years drinking at least a litre a day, and my teeth are fine. Anxiety/mood and energy levels? Not so good.8

If you experienced withdrawal, it was because of the caffeine. It's pretty common.10 -

This is an interesting article on sugar-cravings and sweeteners (like those in diet sodas). Obviously if you do crave sugar, and eat sweet foods, it's still okay if you keep your calorie deficit, but it's something to bear in mind.8 -
It’s a misconception that water is better for hydration than diet soda. After all, diet soda is 99% water.

I would have asked myself, but sadly they are always scared to release new stuff in Canada. So im guessing it about 32 years we will get coke zero cherry.8 -

I'm with you, if they make it out here. I can't stand Diet Coke, but I'll take a crack. I'm also confused if it's Diet Coke PLUS those flavours, or those flavours hanging off the Diet Coke name?1 -

coke zero vanilla and coke zero cherry have briefly been released in Canada - but it is always time limited. recently took a trip to the US and stocked up on coke zero vanilla - delicious!1 -
Wendy's sales about nine flavors of Fanta Zero. It has saved me from regular Coke. I love all the flavors and for a while was having two a day. For whAtever reason it's very hard to find. The only place I've found it in a 12 pack is Amazon and it was outrageously expensive.
Worth checking out.0 -
Darn thought they were coke zero flavors. I'll still try them though!1

Fanta Zero in multiple flavours??? I'm missing out!1 -
Cherry Coke Zero has been available around here for awhile, though hard to find. I'm looking forward to the new flavors of Diet Coke too!0

I would recommend still drinking some plain water every day not just diet pop.8

I don't like artificial sweeteners (can't stand the taste, and generally try to avoid anything that synthetic), but I do love Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice tea. It needs no sweetening... there's so much cinnamon in it. I also like Celestial Seasonings Roastaroma, but prefer it with a tiny splash of milk (like, 7 calories' worth).4
