Hey guys! So I exercise for about 1.5-2 hours every day, but for the rest of the day I live a pretty sedintary lifestyle which is something I’d like to change! I’m looking for some tips on how to get moving more during the day besides my daily exercise. Thanks guys!!

Set an alarm at 10 min to the hour and talk a short walk; Park your car in the far back at the store

How safe is your city/town for walking around? My first exercise was just getting out and walking for 25 minutes, even it was just a few circuits around the block.

When I worked a desk job, I was able to drink a ton of water as needed (since I could visit the ladies room whenever). So almost every hour I took the long way to the restroom on my floor. Then I increased by also taking the stairs to the restroom on another floor. It didn't seem like a lot, but it added up.

At home, spend more time doing housework. Laundry, sweeping, vacuuming, hand washing dishes instead of using the dishwasher, etc. all involve moving. At work, see if you can get a standing desk, otherwise as people have said above, set an hourly timer to get up and walk around a bit.

I walk as part of my commute to and from work.
I take the stairs when I get to work.
I get up and climb several flights of stairs mid-morning and mid-afternoon.
I go for a walk at lunch to run errands or just to walk.
I take the stairs when I return from lunch.
I go for a walk or bicycle ride after work.
I get up frequently throughout the evening to do housework.

    - Don't sit when you could stand, don't stand when you could move around.
    - Fidget more.
    - Do bodyweight squats or lunges or lateral leg raises while you brush your teeth.
    - Do wall or counter pushups while you wait for the microwave.
    - Find hobby activities that involve more movement.
    - Park at the far end of every parking lot.
    - Always take the stairs.
    - Do some major home improvement projects.
    - Start a garden.
    - Whenever possible, use a hand basket instead of a cart at the grocery store, and carry your bags by hand to the car.
    - At stoplights, rhythmically contract your abdominals or lats (using the steering wheel and your bodyweight as light resistance), or do kegels.

    Etc. ;)

Ha! You just posted what I was going to, right down to abs in the car.

If I had abs I would swear they were made in the kitchen the way I squat, lunge, and plank when cooking.

Lunging on the way back from the toilet; good, on the way to the toilet; not so good, ask me how I know. Washing floors on your knees can be a good little work out btw.

After years of efficiency training, I now do things the inefficient way. Doing laundry is again a multi trip up and down the stairs, and the wood floors are back to being swept with a broom more often than not.

If I run out of one or two items I do the 10 min walk to the local grocery store instead of jumping in the car and whizzing off to the supermarket.

The funny thing about that is, I spent 20 years wishing for a car so I wouldn't have to haul shopping around. I got one in my late 40's- it was the main contributor to my 30lbs weight gain.

Oh, the only thing I don't do is the parking lot- I always park for safety, usually near where a light is, and never at the back, in a corner, or near trees.

    Cheers, h.

One thing I try to do is go talk to my coworkers rather than email or call. Win/win, as it gets me up and builds rapport.
