A highly serious debate
An issue that has been pressing on my mind - it keeps me up a night, and I'm sure it has kept everyone here up too.
Now I understand this is a highly sensitive subject so continue at your own risk.
What does 'Woo' even mean?
Good? Bad? Why is there such a stigma around the woo?
I'm so gosh darn sick of this confusion.
Just put me out of my misery. Please.

A little from column a a little from column b
I think it was silly to have a button with two meanings, people do seem to be confused.
I put it to the MFP staff to add a new button.
"Woo" for Woo Hoo positive button and
"Malarky" for woo woo science and lies4 -

the official guideline:
http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10570889/new-community-reaction-woo#latest
but people have morphed it into whatever they want
Also this board has all sorts of useful forum info in it, and no one ever looks at it....makes me sad

Wow, that's interesting i didn't know the woo meant that. It's clear to me now the emoji face is what causes the confusion
there is a whole other world out there besides chit chat, you should check it out one day1 -
To me woo means nonsense.
Example- someone posts saying that as long as your on a keto diet that you don't need a calorie deficit to lose weight because keto is magic. That would be woo because in order to lose weight, you must create a calorie deficit
But some people think it means woo hoo, like yay!
Maybe pick the meaning you like more and roll with it?3 -

You lost me at "serious"2

All I know is, when you mention, allude to, or even acknowledge the existence of the 'woo', your post gets woo's up the wazoo.3
-
...Well if it means nonsense - I'm sorry to all the people I've offend.
I meant it in a way of 'WOO! YEAH BOI!'
I guess that was all... Woo.4 -

IMO people that get offended by the woo button need to learn to chill anyways, some things in life just aren't worth the stressing about, sheesh2 -

Nope. No. Newp. Nuh uh. You can't make me.
Also, is there a limit to threads that can be about the same thing? I am kinda ready to bang my head against the wall on this topic....
ugh tell me about it. but no, unfortunately not. You arent allowed to post the same thing on multiple boards, so we will enforce it if someone blows up the forums. But we don't yell at them for posted the 50000000th " I need friends!!!!!!! XOXOX" thread.2 -

I’m assuming most people don’t use the woo in that context.
well not really in chit chat, since it doesnt really work here that well. But the whole rest of mfp pretty much....1 -
laprimaJenny wrote: »I never realized the negative connotation attached to the woo until recently and try not to use it like I used to. Last thing I would ever want to do is offend anyone.
well it used to be multi use: woo as in "that aint gonna work dummy" or woo as in "woohoo" and you kinda used it as the thread indicated. So a detox thread would get alot of the former, and a success story the later. But that was too confusing and then they went and changed the emoji. And now I just want awesome back because that was way easier to understand and no one complained about getting awesomed3 -

True story. I can't even look at the person to decide if I enjoyed it or not.
