Juicing yes or no

You can get nutrients from the juice without the fiber. Not everyone can digest that much fiber. I can't at this stage of my life and I want the extra nutrients from the vegetables. You don't know the condition of every person on Earth so the blanket statement that any juice is bad is just ridiculous.3

When I have a protein shake, I usually blend in a banana. What veggies do you use? Any thoughts on what would go good with a banana and vanilla protein powder?
When I do a smoothie my favorite vegetables to add are winter squash (including spaghetti squash), which I pre-roast and keep in the refrigerator; cucumber; avocado (technically a fruit); fennel; kale or spinach. Others that I have added include green pepper (has to be with the right mix as it has a stronger flavor), zucchini (okay sub for the winter squash, raw, not cooked), and frozen cauliflower. Obviously I do not add them all at the same time.
I'm not that into bananas, so I use berries mostly as my fruit (sometimes some mango, and in the summer I use whatever combination of fresh fruit seems pleasant -- love melon of any sort). Avocado and winter squash achieve the same kind of smooth texture that a banana does.
I wouldn't find juice filling, and eat lots of veg and fruit in my normal day, so for me there's no point to a smoothie unless it serves as a meal replacement, and as such it beats juice. I suppose if one thinks they aren't getting enough vegetables without juicing it can be okay, but I also would want the fiber.0 -
I like to eat my calories.5

Kale or spinach work, they impact the color but not taste depending on how much ya add.
I have often thought of using spinich. Do you use raw leaves, frozen, or canned?0 -

Canned sounds gross actually,lol.
Fresh. I put a handful of fresh in the nutribullet with some frozen mixed berries and either vanilla yogurt (not unflavored, that's not pleasant) or vanilla almond milk. Both I usually add water to to make it liquid enough to drink. I use them as snacks, they are easy to make and tatse good. I keep them under 200 calories by not going overboard on fruit. The sweet of the berries hides any spinach flavor.0 -
You can do whatever you want but you won't lose weight unless you consume less than your current maintenance calorie level though. It is unnecessary to eat or drink a particular thing to jump start weight loss.
I personally do not find drinking my calories to be satisying at all. I seem to need the chewing sensation. I'd say just eat the fruits and vegetables normally.3 -

Some people think that juices are healthy and natural. They don't occur in nature. Juices are about the most processed food you can consume. They don't jump start anything. And they certainly don't fill you up. So much better to eat the whole vegetable or the whole fruit, instead of extracting it's juice. The most recent juice fad started with a documentary. Which like most internet documentaries, was really an infomercial in disguise. All to sell a book. The creator of that film laughed all the way to the bank.
If you cut open a lemon or a lime, and just squeeze gently, what to do you get? JUICE. Do you eat the entire lime or lemon or do you use the juice? SHAME ON YOU if you aren't eating the whole lemon in your tea or that lime in your mojito. (sarcasm).
Juices have been around for centuries and I personally had a juicer long before any of these recent documentaries came out. In other countries juice has been sold fresh for decades.
There is no way that "Juices are about the most processed food you can consume." A piece of cake, a potato chip, even TOFU or even cow's milk are more processed than a fruit juice. How many people are lined up to suck on a cow's teat to get the milk? And somebody has to milk a cow, which is just as much a process as squeezing a lemon or passing a carrot or another vegetable through a juicer.

@lucerorojo duh uh I am referring to extracted juices. Not the juice that occurs in fruits and vegetables. I don't know of any plant in the world that you can walk up to and stick a straw into it and suck out its juice. If you've been duped into believing that juices have magical weight loss or other health properties, that's your reality. Not mine.
You've never drank coconut water fresh then? You are missing out. Try it some time!!
ETA: I don't think that they are effective for maintaining weight loss, but I have experienced personally that adding vegetable juices to your diet can improve immunity (especially if you can't eat enough raw vegetables--which is my case due to digestive issues) and therefore overall health. It worked for me with the flu/virus as I detailed above. It could be a placebo, me thinking myself well, but regardless no harm done drinking the juices. Definitely on a juice fast you WILL lose weight because of CICO, but maintaining it is another issue.11 -
smoothies rather then juices. fuller and tastier.3

I think it feels great.. very energizing. Not sure if you need to jump start, but working in a juice fast helps me if I get stuck at some point. It is not difficult after day 2. Fiber you can put in in a variety of ways or if it's a brief fast don't worry about it. I don't feel like its unpleasant at all; if anything I feel very grounded during a juice fast. I have a masticating juicer and it does a good job & makes very little waste (and what waste it makes I compost and put back into my garden). I think the phytonutrients are invaluable.6

Fresh. I use 60 g of kale and / or swiss chard per smoothie; spinach is milder.0 -

Ya, I've juiced in the past but:
1. Hated throwing away the fiber
2. Got headaches
3. Was not the least bit satiated
Now I make smoothies which have a good mix of protein, fat, and fiber, and keep me full for hours.1 -
I would never consider a juice fast, however I love a good carrot, veggie juice. I just love the taste and enjoy one almost every day. I also eat plenty of veggies too, along with a varied mix of protein, fats and carbs. Eat what you like, log it all, drink water and it will happen without a jump-start. Good luck.2

You asked for an unequivocal answer so mine is a “no”. It is incomplete, unnecessary and still easy to go over on calories.
As a replacement fill up your daily prep containers with the combined fruits and vegetables you would have juiced that day. Masticate them the old fashioned way. Supplement with a protein source every day like a couple boiled eggs, Greek Yogurt, a couple cheese slices, a chicken breast, steak or salmon steak.3 -

I still think you would be better off with something in the blender vs. juicing, but do what makes you happy. Maybe try both ways and see what works best.2 -

It worked for me! I prepped by eating veg a week before but only made it 3 days juicing. After however, I felt so wonderful I made one small lifestyle change at a time that all stuck and slowly over past 2 years am down 20kg! It really changed my mind frame and I took a hard look at my lifestyle and wanted to do better for myself and feel strong and healthy. One day at a time, one workout at a time, one meal at a time and NO negative self talk - shut that bullying voice up in your head and say something nice to yourself immediately! Best of luck on your lifelong journey!0 -
If it's energy you are looking for juicing is great. You don't have to do a fast, but definitely, make those juices and incorporate that into your daily calories. They are highly nutritious and those nutrients will help your energy level, especially if you use a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. If you want to try a juice fast go for it. I have done them and they've been great. I don't do them with weight loss as the goal - I do them for nutrient absorption. I agree with gems74. If you want to try it and feel like it might help don't let anyone (especially anyone who doesn't have experience) tell you otherwise. Removing the fiber creates a highly nutritious drink. There are definite benefits to that.6

Without the fibre you can add more quantity of vegetable matter - that's all. I like juices, just go easy on the sugary fruits or even carrots and beets because without their fibre the glycemic spike is higher. I'd stick mainly to vegies with some lemon, maybe an apple but fibre has its value too.5
