2.7L per day for a person who does NOT exersize
the simple equation is half your body weight in ounces and 25% more for people who exercise
The very article you linked even says that as long as you’re rarely thirsty and your pee is light yellow, you’re getting plenty of water.
It says nothing to validate your claims.
then you are getting the 2.7L
critical thinking
I drink 0 to 8 oz of water per day and stay sufficiently hydrated. How? Like the article you linked says, water in food, water in Coke Zero, water in coffee and water in milk all count.
The recommendation for 2.7L of water is useless.
Critical thinking.19 -
Not only does soda not dehydrate you, It hydrates better than plain water.

you will notice that your chart while showing more water retention does NOT take into account actually water availability - your top drink all have SUGAR - sugar is the worst inflammatory there is - so while you retain more water it is NOT available for use as it is locked up in joints - 3rd spacing edema
swelling due to water retention involves the enlargement of organs, skin, or other body structures. It is caused by excessive buildup of fluid in the tissues. This build up can lead to a rapid increase in weight over a short period of time (days to weeks). Swelling can occur throughout the body (generalized) or it may be limited to a specific part of the body (localized)
- water is your best option - why do people lose so much weight initially on KETO - no sugar ---- they literally piss that water out as there is no sugar to hold onto it.... PLEASE stop spreading this garbage
Talking to yourself, are you?
Because almost everything you just said is completely untrue.
Let me guess. I'm not thinking critically again. :ohwell:26 -

I'll make it easy for - why do diabetics have swelling edma related issues? answer their bodies can;t not process sugar effectively thus causing 3rd space swelling and water retention as a whole which is also why they have on average higher BP related issues
Diabetics have a disease.
Also, this isn’t a source.16 -
I could post NIH or JAP articles but these are for the readers here

Ah. You consider livestrong to be a reputable source. That explains a lot.20 -
Your body doesn’t “hold on” to calories. You move less if your energy level is too low therefore will burn less calories. Plus you are just setting yourself up for a binge that will likely undo your deficit.2

You get your info from livestrong? That explains things.
eta: I see Carlos beat me to the punch. That's what I get for not following my own usual advice of not replying before reading the entire thread.7 -
Thyroid function
Thyroid hormone is an important determinant of energy expenditure and basal metabolic rate (16). Short-term studies of CR in humans have reported alterations in thyroid function. Four weeks of complete fasting resulted in a decrease in triiodothyronie (T3) and an increase in reverse T3, which was associated with a reduction in metabolic rate
This is like a compendium of woo. I'm actually a bit impressed with the complete lack of comprehension going on here.
Thyroid hormones...and all hormones provide gentle pushes to metabolism. Even in extreme circumstances this amounts to ~5% shift in BMR/REE. This amounts to ~80 kcals/day out of a 1600 kcal/day budget.8 -
Do we all know what "moving the goalpost" is here? "It stops your metabolism!" no. "It slows you metabolism!" no. "her deficit is too high probably!" Maybe. "Ha! I win! She needs to drink 2.7 liters of water a day!" no. "I have a source!" no. "She needs 2.7 liters from food and water but not soda!" no. "Soda might be okay for water, but the sugar is bad for water so they cancel eachother out!" no. "Sugar is bad." sometimes "Ha! I win!"18

LOL there you have have it
soda is better than water - please all coaches and parents from now on instead of water give your kids mountain dew to drink during the middle of a 90 degree soccer game
That would be silly - not because it wouldn't hydrate them but because sugar isn't good for their teeth ( yes I know you can brush them but nobody is going to do that in middle of a sports game ) and carbonation is going to give tummy ache if you run around after drinking it.
Cold tea would do fine - but our cultural expectation is water, that's all.

No it isn't - it is because of the high correlation of diabetes with cardiac and kidney disease - hence increased BP levels.

Not sure about the rest, but starvation mode is a myth. If it were true, severely anorexic people would not continue to lose weight. As long as you're alive, you will burn calories (heart beating, lungs breathing). The Minnesota study that termed "starvation mode" was proven to be a very false study and completely, and repeatedly debunked. The only way your metabolism actually stops is death.2
