Big dudes often look great in big patterns (not loud, just big) and big lapels that us mere mortals can't pull off. Sometimes solids are not their best play, either.

This one is just a cheap blue nailhead.Even relatively inexpensive suits can look nice when tailored to the wearer. Still one of my wife's favorites, she loves the color.
You nailed it, tailoring can make a $100 suit look like a million bucks.
