I really suck at being patient.

I have 8-10lbs more to lose and progress is sloooow. When I first started losing weight I was dumb and decided to crash diet. I know that it’s really unhealthy, but I lost 10-14lbs in the space of 4 weeks and it felt good. Since I discovered MFP I’ve been more sensible and have been eating at least the recommended 1,200 and it’s definitely working. It’s just a struggle to keep patient. Does anyone else find that also? I just feel like I’m constantly fighting the idea that if I just did the same thing again I could reach my goal so quickly and then it’d be done and over. I’m not going to do it and I’m not really looking for advice - more like solidarity in knowing that I’m not the only one resisting the urge to get it over and done with quickly ^^’

... and then you get to maintain.

    Forever

So thinking on how to do that should distract you quite effectively while you're waiting for the time to pass!
I knew someone was gonna say that :p
But I don’t have a problem with maintaining. I find it much easier than both crash dieting (obviously) and sensible reasonable deficits. ^^’

What are you planning to do when it's "over and done"?

(I'm in maintenance, so I'm not exactly in the same spot, but I can tell you that I'm really wanting to eat something, but I'm not going to. Yeah, it sucks a bit right now.)

Then maintenance, the easy bit! For me it just feels like reaching that goal will be a huge weight off my shoulders, so to speak. I can increase my calories and live happily ever after, probably :p

Yes it can suck, and yes, I get impatient sometimes.

I try to find other goals and things to focus on so I'm less concerned about the weight.

Since you're so close, it's going to be a looong process, so learning to accept that and finding a few other things to focus on would probably help.

This. I looked back to my previous weigh ins for kittens and giggles. It took me 4 freaking months to lose my last 5 pounds. I lost the 20 pounds before those in 5 months :ohwell:

You can hand-type some emojis, if you know them. Put a :colon: on both sides of the word. Now you can distract yourself during the last ten pounds by playing with new emojis!

Whenever I think about crash-dieting, I look at my hair and fingernails and think about how much I would miss them if they went all brittle and fell out. I've certainly had the thought from time to time. Hang in there - we can do it!
I do kinda feel like those are a little.. exaggerated. I have no doubt that people surviving for extended periods on few calories have those symptoms and more, but I do feel the long term risks are far less likely for those on short term diets. That’s not to say I’d encourage short time crash diets at all, I just don’t believe that after a month your hair and fingernails are gonna up and leave your body ^^’

That’s true. I’m definitely gonna keep working towards fitness goals too, so that can be my focus for the journey I think :)

The last 5-10lbs can be slow and difficult. But if I ever think about losing too fast, I remember how hard I've worked and how I don't want to sacrifice my hard-earned muscle and body composition. Then when I get to goal it is all... Yo Yo Ma ;)

The last 10 pounds has so far taken me 8 months to lose. Not even joking. And it hasn't even been 10 pounds I lost. More like 7-8 depending on the day.

I feel you! I'm about 10-15lbs away now too. I'm considering just switching to recomping instead.

I considered this not long ago, but I’ve been a lazy bum and failed so far to do any real research into it >.>

Haha, it's pretty simple. Eat at maintenance (with a focus on lots of protein) and strength train. You'll shed fat while putting on muscle, so the scale won't move but you'll slowly lose some inches and gain muscle. It's a very, very slow process but a nice alternative to cutting/bulking cycles.
